  2. NBC going away at the end of 2024 was probably the end of their affiliation agreement, and due to the pending wind down of the station operations, dumping NBC was a way to cut costs because of the reverse compensation agreements most network affiliates have. This does beg the question to what the television situation is outside of KXGN. Glendive technically doesn't have an NBC affiliate anymore or even a de facto affiliate as well. Glendive doesn't even appear have a cable company, and DirecTV doesn't even provide local stations for its viewers. Dish supplements KXGN with KOTA (ABC), KEVN (FOX) and no NBC affiliate since KXGN pulled the plug. YouTube TV fills in the gaps with WMAQ out of Chicago, KHMT out of Billings for FOX and a straight ABC feed in Pacific time with ABC News live filling in the gaps. There's still KYUS in Miles City, basically a repeater of Cowles' KULR. It's in the Billings market so adapting it to serve the Glendive audience is still a challenge. I wonder if that would be part of the sale of KXGN since these are the only remaining parts of Stephen Marks' TV station group.

  4. Also the WBKB deal to MMM was sorely needed as the news department basically had everyone who should just be behind the scenes writing, anchoring, newsgathering and doing tech work on-set. The staff was overwhelmed and the Sinclair deal, though certainly not the best, allows them to just focus on reporting news and send off the video to Traverse City to be edited into broadcasts. It has not been shut down, just pushed to a more manageable level for a market like Alpena. Same with WBUP/WBKP/WJMN. Any result there was better than either closing a station or just selling out to spectrum speculators like Innovate/HC2 whose 'commitment' to local service is basically 'does the antenna work and will we get paid to air FAST channel offal to nobody'. KXGN doesn't have that burden now, and is basically a free agent. They could choose to be merged into their existing Scripps MTN network (the Cowles deal for news out of Spokane is just absurd), or decide to go closer and be merged into one of the three North Dakota networks, be it KX/Nextar, KFYR/Gray or Forum/KBMY.
  5. KXGN no longer produces local programming. TV Passport shows airings of “The Noon News,” “The 5:30 News,” and “The 10:00 News,” which are from KTVQ in Billings. So, MM can’t really sink it anymore.
  6. I am interested to see what happens with this station. I pray to God that this station isn't sold to Morgan Murphy and converted into a satellite station. Last time this happened (with WBKB in Alpena) the station's news operation was shut down and replaced with the newscasts from Traverse City, so I'm hoping MM doesn't shut this station's news down and replace it with another station's local news.
  7. I believe they do it for repeats of the 11PM news, I know KNBC does the same for repeats of news broadcasts as well. It does help to indicate that the broadcast was previously recorded.

  9. Justin Betti has announced on his Linkedin that Gray/KVLY (Fargo) is not picking up the option on the final year of his contract. https://www.linkedin.com/posts/justin-betti-819093157_career-update-this-week-i-was-told-by-management-activity-7338792592874057731-Nt_Q?utm_source=share&utm_medium=member_desktop&rcm=ACoAAArjD0MBokjy_To31gB_pwvFdJdcCbU8Ano
  10. Yup. Some very lame advice from Magid.
  11. Technically, KXGN's already affiliated with the MTN group, so it would be more a matter of launching a new .2 subchannel to match the other stations. Oh, and apparently those stations' .2 subchannels are "independent" but all use the MTN branding, which is actually rather clever.
  12. Which means she manages sales for a pharmaceutial company and goes around medical facilities selling physicians on their drugs (Wikipedia says they have a chloesterol drug). Probably a lot easier money and schedule for her.
  13. Canada Sophie Thibault is anchoring her final newscast at TVA Nouvelles as we speak, as it was announced in February that she will be retiring, and today is her last day. Julie Marcoux moves in from 12 Noon to take over at 5:00 and 6:00 p.m. Philippe-Vincent Foisy takes over at 12 Noon, and Pierre-Olivier Zappa remains at 10:00 p.m. https://news.az/news/journalist-julie-marcoux-will-succeed-sophie-thibault
  14. Probably for the same reason restaurants and casinos don't have clocks: so you can't see how late it is.
  15. Is there a reason why WBTS doesn't show the time of night during their 11 PM news, opting to show a weather icon instead? Earlier in the day, you can see the current time in the bottom-right corner:
  16. Morning Anchor/reporter Pauleen Le is leaving WCCO after tomorrow's show. No word yet on her next destination. Do love her nod to the late Darcy Pohland in her announcement! https://bringmethenews.com/minnesota-lifestyle/pauleen-le-announces-friday-will-be-her-last-day-at-wcco

  18. Longtime WDIV reporter Hank Winchester had his home searched on June 13th and he has been placed on administrative leave. Apparently he was studying massage therapy and made unwanted sexual advances towards a man during a massage. He’s been at the station since 2001. WJBK is blasting this as the lead story on its website. Classy. https://www.fox2detroit.com/news/home-wdiv-local-4s-hank-winchester-searched-police
  19. Last week
  20. That’s exactly what I meant.
  21. I'm not sure why the level of surprise here. One of the many reasons for the new building was to provide more studio space for shows originating from NY whether live or taped. It's not unique. Out of 30 Rock right now (which will change somewhat at the end of the year with the Versant spin-off) shows include from NBC: Early Today, Today, NBC News Now (most of the day and early evening), Kelly Clarkson, NBC Nightly News, Tonight with Jimmy Fallon, Late Night with Seth Meyers; From WNBC: TINY, News4 at 11, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 11, New York Live; From WNJU: Noticiero 47 Telemundo Primera edición, Noticiero 47 Telemundo al mediodiá, Noticiero 47 Telemundo a la 5:30, 6 and 11; From MSNBC: Way too early, Morning Joe, Ana Cabrera Reports, Chris Jansing Reports, Katie Tur Reports, Deadline White House, The Beat with Ari Melber, All in with Chris Hayes, Last Word with Lawrence O'Donnell and the 11th Hour with Stephanie Ruhle. MSNBC shows originating in DC may still use 30 Rock facilities for live/taped interviews during those shows. This does not include weekly shows like Saturday Night Live and Dateline.
  22. Wow thats A LOT of airtime from that building haha how do they fit all of those sets there? I'd imagine they have spaces below ground too? The studios are rather large so I wonder how they fit them all into the building.
  23. North Platte is the smallest market that still puts out newscasts of their own. Even Alpena has largely ceded their news to Traverse City and Sinclair, with just a short local blip in the "B" block of their 10pm show. What's the smallest market with an all-local operation these days? May be Victoria, TX since Presque Isle's WAGM now simulcasts WABI's morning show from Bangor. The buyer of KXGN would likely turn them into an affiliate of all 4 networks, much like WBKB in Alpena. Surprised Morgan Murphy hasn't taken the plunge..yet.
  24. Yesterday evening, Veo7 relaunched on DTT, replacing Gol Play.
  25. It seems he still appears on the 10am but it seems lately the days vary. It used to be Tuesday Wednesday Thursday, but I’ve seen him on Fridays recently too. I have not seen him on the 6am hour of the morning show in quite some time though, and his picture was removed from morning newscast video thumbnails.
  26. I noticed Sam is on GMA this week and not filling in for anyone. Has he still been on the 10am newscast?
  27. RIP to the Glendive market.
  28. I am hoping that Scripps (yes, them.) would aquire KXGN-TV to fit in with the Montana Television Network.
  29. France TF1 + Netflix = A huge landmark deal starting next year will see TF1's live TV channels and on demand content from TF1+ to appear on Netflix. This could be the start of a huge trend worldwide. https://about.netflix.com/en/news/netflix-and-tf1-group-join-forces-to-bring-tf1-to-netflix-members-in-france
