  1. In the memory of the late, great Jack White... A San Diego Institution. RIP Mike, say hi to Captain Mike for all of us, and Godspeed.

  2. I didn't know KPNX (then KTAR at the time) also used the ALIVE branding (aka 12 ALIVE). I'm guessing that was part of the Combined Communications Corporation/Gannett thingy, along with WLKY Louisville (32 ALIVE), KOCO Oklahoma City (5 ALIVE) and of course WXIA Atlanta (11 ALIVE and STILL IS to this day).

  6. I noticed this desk this morning at the start of the Today Show. Studio 1A will be home to NBC's Decision 2020, so this desk might be used solely for election night. However, it is very similar to Today's normal desk so I wonder if it'll become a permanent Today fixture after the election. Al's current weather monitor was first used for the 2018 midterm election, so it wouldn't be a first if an election item became a Today fixture. I really like it!!

  7. I'm not exactly sure what you mean by Tweet pages, but his Twitter account has not been removed. It's still there. https://twitter.com/lipoftv Instead of broadly claiming he is biased, the more appropriately thing to do would be to cite specific instances in which you feel he stated something biased. If you have examples, please share them.

  8. The standards for journalistic integrity should apply up and down the line - from freelance, per diem reporters up to those at the anchor desk.

  9. The point is - a professional "journalist" should not express personal views. They should be kept persona'! Since he was a member of the O&O family, I wonder how much vetting took place????? Probably little if none. The bar keeps getting lower!!!!!

  10. According to Phil Lipof's Twitter page, today is to be his first at WNBC. Unfortunately, I also noticed on the pages that he inexplicably makes political comments! How wrong and unprofessional. His role at WNBC, and I'm sure as an anchor at two Boston stations, is not to editorialize, just to report the news not to express his personal feelings. He couches the comments with "POLITICS ASIDE" - that doesn't ameliorate his lack of judgment. Professionals are expected to keep their political thoughts to themselves In fact, many won't even vote! Once again, the misuse of Social Media can be the bane of broadcast "journalists."

  12. it's really a three-note logo (not the first note before the "This is CBS" VO). There have been several other bumpers with that three note logo (including the "Welcome Home" days). Vid courtesy of "eyeontv" from YT.

  13. I'd argue that the 4 note signature from their early-mid 90's ID counts as a jingle.

  14. It looks like CBS is quickly rolling out their new look across their Network Promos, Show Promos, and Social Media. The core sports package package is unchanged, but I noticed that their fullscreen promos for upcoming games, tonight's shows, etc were the "new look." I also caught a liner in the second CBS game (I can't for the life of me remember which game we carried) that mentioned big changes coming in November, but I was only half listening so I'm not exactly sure of the full context. Perhaps an updated look for The Masters? I can't imagine they'd change their election night look this late in the game.

  15. It's refreshing (and maybe even a little comforting) to see it finally sourced and published, but as much as I want to have high expectations, there have been quite a few new meh graphics launched as of recent, so I...won't hold my breath for CBS, given how they seem to bungle everything they launch. Edited for my own takeaways: CBS is not synonymous with a notable 'jingle' of sorts (like NBC's chime), so I'm interested to see if this will catch on. Well, we just saw CBS Evening News go through a massive change last year, but this definitely means the current look is being whacked. CBS EN, CBSN, and CBS Sports all have different fonts albeit similar in being "skinny-ish", so I'm kind of wondering how bold (or not) they'll go. Lol this just reminds me of how KDKA went rogue a few months back. As far as this specific forum is concerned, this is the most relevant development and also the biggest clue about what will change -- definitely going to be really different because CBS EN is blue all over and CBSN is red all over. Interested to see what will come from this beyond what's visible from the debate coverage graphics. This is the one main component without a stated timeline, so we probably have a lot longer to wait for CBS O&Os (and CBSN Locals, if they're even switching over either). Just IMO but I feel like the "pieces" part (referring to the new design elements for the Eye) might actually take kind of a large role with the O&Os in an effort to make things feel "modern" and "sleek," which we can't really describe for the current deployment of the Eye. Pulling for CBS here to actually develop something stunning given how major of a network it is, but it's generally lagging so far behind the other two nets so in the end, will graphics really make a difference? Probably only for us newsies.

  16. Why not put the news desk back in the studio?

  17. I do agree with you but I posted it because it kinda looked like those full screen graphics that have the CBSN look to them.

  18. Apparently someone in the KPIX graphics department reads TVNT. Now roll this out across the O&Os!

  19. It looks like they're testing out the full package here in Atlanta at WUPA before rolling out to the "bigger" O&Os.

  20. Yes, but those shades of gray and the narrower text in the header are among newer elements, lining up with the CBSN local look.

  21. Looks like CBSN-like graphics have popped up on KTVT. For real this time.

  22. Of course you have I wish more stations would use the package. It looks good and seems easy to utilize. Simple & easy way to give a stations brand into that of CBS.

  23. It's based off the 2019/2020 CBS network graphics package. I've recycled the same pieces for some projects.

  28. Yestersay, after watching the 10:00 News on Pittsburgh's CW, I caught this on the Nightly Sports Call. They are using the main news set, could they be using the temp set for CBSN Pittsburgh?

  29. really liking the flattened out eye transitions that are reminiscent of the current ones, if this is evidence of anything big they're working on group-wide i hope they keep those kinda design cues! the current package is really nice and i like the idea of them just. freshening up 'n modernizing some of the concepts of it tbh.

  30. Barons maps and radar appears differently from WSI.
    1 point
  31. Depends. Either A) They could create a look and share it among stations provided they have the proper formats that both WSI and Baron use. HOWEVER: The weather team would have to build everything from scratch all over again (animations, frames, fonts, etc.) Or B) They can get WSI or Baron involved where they build everything in their shop, and send it to the respective stations where all they need to do is unzip it. I know one group, it was a little bit of both: Someone at the hub sent the design and style guide to Baron and WSI, they sent back the boxes/banners, etc. in the format they need, and they built it all there from the hub using the proper elements/style to send to their stations with their logo on it. If you were to watch a station out of this group, find one that uses Baron, and WSI, and the normal person couldn't tell a difference for the most part. (If you know what you're looking for, you can.)
    1 point
  32. Not necessarily. Like WSI, if CBS sends the elements and Style Guide to Baron, they can re-create it at their shop, zip it up and drop that style (with guide) into their system. Then all the met has to do is swap out the old stuff for the new stuff.
    1 point
  33. True, but the stations that are transitioning are all WSI - the templates are mostly already premade and aren't they easily pushed to stations? Where as WJZ would have to recreate it for Lynx? Also, I cannot stand that black and white ticker they use, nor the previous ticker CBS O&Os used. I much prefer the WJZ version and hope they dont screw it up.

  34. Glad I wasn't the only one lol. KDKA uses WSI. They have The Weather Company logo on the backgroud of their weather computers...

  35. All the weather graphics that launched are at stations that use TWC/WSI’s platform. WJZ and maybe KDKA still rely on Barron for their graphics.

  36. Adding more things to this. I’m getting ready to work at an CBS O&O KTVT 11 Dallas/ Fort Worth. They are preparing for these new graphics and from what I’m hearing a possible new set.
