I actually have liked John on everything he's done and think he's a great politics reporter. Hope he does well on this new program. Who does have CBS News have for a younger and vibrant personality?4 points

Not a fan of the opening graphic or music. They’re both kind of a departure from the CBS streaming look debuted earlier in the year. As for the show itself. Not sure why CBS executives thought this was a good move. The show is as dry as his personality. Bring back News Hour and give me Jericka Duncan.3 points

Lifelong Minnesotan here- even if you are correct, they will take a sweet long time to kill off the best known branding/call letters in the state. They had the opportunity to unveil the CBSN MN brand to the tens of thousands who walk by their booth at the state fair and every sign, banner, and giveaway had the classic WCCO logo on it. Along with the billboards, you don’t spend that kind of money on promos and giveaways (even if they are paper fans and reusable grocery bags) to flip it right away.3 points

It could've been Josh Elliot until he gave himself a promotion on-air at CBSN and then was promptly demoted to the parking lot2 points

Here’s WBBM’s on-air announcement of their 9am show. It’s still being advertised as “CBS 2 News at 9,” and the show starts in 5 days. You’d think that given WBBM’s ratings history, and the fact that half the show is streaming-exclusive, they’d do what KCNC is doing and launch the new branding on Monday.2 points

If he doesn't work on Face the Nation, put him on Mornings. It he doesn't work on Mornings, put him on streaming. If he doesn't work on streaming, ....? I'm sure he's probably a nice guy, but he just doesn't have that on-screen presence that clicks with viewers. If he's their idea for a marquis show on the streaming channel, then the streaming channel must be in a lot more trouble than it looks.2 points

One of the problems was the tail end of the 19-20 and last season of Ellen were pretty much the last thing most viewers wanted to watch, so for many of these stations, they do have to spend the money and say that they have something to watch at 4pm, even if it's a newscast. Also The Four is probably there to stay just based on hashtag-ness (#thefouronwccofour or #thefouronfour); if it was The 4 on CBS 39...yeah, that's a temp title.2 points

They could have also put Lilia Luciano. She’s young, she has anchored CBS News streaming shows before and just recently she announced she was now going to be based in New York. She could have competed well against Linsey Davis.1 point

He’s certainly earned his pay as a political reporter, but he was just a little bit awkward on his opening night. I’m sure he’ll improve with time. Personally, he isn’t my favorite choice (I would’ve preferred Elaine Quijano), but I’ll admit that having someone of his caliber certainly helps their streaming effort. Again, even at his worst, he’s miles better than Chuck Todd.1 point

wow that is a stark contrast between WFTV and WSOC. WFTV has three daily runs of Family Feud on an ABC affiliate! Thats a CW tier lineup! Meanwhile at WSOC it's strange to see Kelly and Ryan Wendy Williams on the same station. Aside from a few exceptions I always picture Wendy as a Fox/CW/MNT talk show. Overall, SOC has a solid lineup.1 point

Color me surprised. Longtime KTLA 5 reporter Christina Pascucci has now jumped ship to Fox 11.1 point

They're still hoping to find the next Walter Cronkite... Someone older and more seasoned to go up against all the trendy TikToking Whipper Snappers the other networks have (every pun intended)1 point

Right, You would think CBS executives would want someone young and vibrant to go against Lindsey Davis and Tom Llamas at that hour. Instead…., Just goes to show CBS doesn’t have the leadership or decision makers needed to be competitive in today’s news business. It’s almost as if they’ve conceded to being in 3rd place forever.1 point

By then Norah's next contract will be up, he will cost much less and won't do any worse in the ratings.1 point

I mean, every branding/graphics package they've had since 2007 features the rectangle of "WCCO". Only difference is that the CBS Eye is currently attached to it. Thank to Jon Ellis for archiving all of these screengrabs! http://www.northpine.com/broadcast/captures/mn/wcco.html1 point

I’ve come up with a tagline: “John Dickerson: He’s not Chuck Todd.” Hopefully these were just first day jitters, but there’s much to be improved upon to say the least.1 point

There's such a thing as over exposure. If I have an anchor team that I reguard as my best, I wouldn't want them on every living newscast to the point where the audience gets tired of seeing them. I don't even find Kori and Tamsen to be that strong of an anchor team to be the lead duo. Going down this road again but Kaity Tong should still be on weekday evenings & nights, especially given that Mr. G is still there. The 10 PM slot has not recovered quality wise from her and Watkins' departures. PIX 11 needs a more diverse anchor line up in the evenings, and a less cheap looking aesthetic. They have some things going for them like an authentic New York local feel, (something WCBS lacks), but there's still major room for improvement.1 point

Good point, and now that you mention it, the state fair was at the back of my mind in the lead up to what we thought would be a Labor Day launch. The near absence of “CBS News Minnesota” branding on their tents, signage, etc. was hard not to notice. You’d think they’d use an event like the state fair to promote the new brand to the masses alongside their existing brand, if only for streaming purposes. I still think they’ll implement the “CBS News Minnesota” brand alongside the existing WCCO brand (see the graphics demo, although that is likely not the final look). That said, it might take take at least a year before the WCCO name goes away on TV. There’s even a small chance that it doesn’t go away at all, although that would make WCCO a very special exception among the CBS O&Os. I suppose that would only happen if the market’s reaction to the whole rebrand is *extremely* negative. WCCO isn’t the only station that is slow to promote the “CBS News (City)” brand. Even though KCNC is launching its rebrand on Sept. 12th, WCBS is still advertising their new 9am newscast (premiering on the same day) as “CBS2 News at 9,” with less than a week to go. There’s also a new KYW morning promo with the new graphics that advertises that newscast as “CBS3 Eyewitness News” (I’ll look for pictures/videos of both and post them here ASAP). Those aren’t “legacy stations” like WCCO, so perhaps those stations are slowly transitioning their brands because of the large number of OTA viewers in those markets? I’m honestly not sure. The rollout is a bit inconsistent at this point, and some things may not even be finalized yet. Chances are, we’ll know a lot more on Monday.1 point

gonna bring a new market to this thread - orlando. these are weekday changes - might post weekends later? idk WESH - the kelly clarkson show at 3pm starting 9/12 (tamron hall remains at 2pm. I guess they backed out of getting our rights to Jennifer Hudson? Was a huge window open for WFTV to take Tamron and their lineup is paying for it. ) WKMG - no changes. not that they ever want to spend money on syndication except the 2 shows they currently have WFTV - the early exit of Judge Jerry and loss of a chance at Tamron makes this lineup weird. rightthisminute got replaced with just for laughs gags at 9:30am on 9/5, and is being replaced with Hot Bench on 9/12 (which I assume is a placeholder for ring nation.......if it even gets on the air.) also kelly clarkson isn't being cleared in Orlando this week - don't ask me how that's possible. any 10am is now 2 of many Family Feud runs this week on WFTV/WRDQ. 3:30pm is still Family Feud/Jeopardy as it has been since 7/26. on 9/12 10am is gonna change to iCrime. WKCF - obvious drew barrymore cut to 30 mins at 10am (we're not clearing the second half hour). lauren lake moves in at 10:30am. Maury slides to 11am until Karamo on 9/19. 2 Steve blocks at 12pm and 3pm as Jerry moves to 1pm, second Maury at 2pm. American Housewife and the Neighborhood at 4 and 6pm hours, The Goldbergs moves to 5pm. Mom slides to the midnight side of the comedy block. WRDQ - relative justice FINALLY gets cleared in Orlando at 10am. game show block is officially dead - Chicago Fire and SVU at 11am and 12pm. WFTV news repeat at 1. Dateline moves back (I guess last season's move to WRBW was a last second decision) at 2pm and 9pm. Sitcom block stays put at 3pm-5pm. 5-7pm is doing a bunch of random placeholders and stuff - Family Feud remains at 7 and 7:30. ICrime at 8pm. The First 48 moves from CW18 weekend slots to WRDQ weekdays at 2am - many of these changes are happening 9/12. WOFL - Sherri/Jennifer at 10/11am, no other changes except Pictionary at 2pm and Nick Cannon at....11:35pm, a late night talk show of sorts until it finally leaves the lineup. judge judy remains at 4pm till someone realizes these are repeats. WRBW - judge mabalean's 2 year clearance in Orlando ends - at least this week. no extreme changes except Sherri/Jennifer at 3 and 4pm, Nick Cannon at 9pm, and the sitcoms slated to leave this season will leave. did not mean to bury half the page with my list but this is what's happening in Orlando.1 point

I find mornings on PIX to be more solid than evenings at least in anchor diversity. (now technically 3 anchor teams if you count NY living). I've given up understanding having Kori & Tamsen anchor 4 separate newscasts, and Tamsen anchoring 5 lol. I also feel that Arrianee LeBeau is also not a great fit outside the 4pm despite how often she'll fill in (she actually makes Tamsen look like a stronger anchor, so perhaps that was the point). I'd like to see someone like Ayana Harry or Katie Corrado fill in more often weeknights1 point

Also, they’re the newcomer in the 4pm news game, and have to catch up with KARE, so I suppose every bit of promotion helps. Still, three in a row is overkill. Agree on the name and branding. WCCO isn’t spending loads of cash to promote a temporary title/branding.1 point

Although I'm sure there is heritage about that channel logo, it is way too busy IMO for today, and looks incompatible with the abc circle.1 point

Based on what other O&Os are doing, it is likely Jim and Janelle. Now would be a good time to hand over the noon to the 4pm team.1 point

Wasn't there a story about Dan Rather being on vacation when the Oklahoma City bombing took place and Connie Chung anchored CBS coverage herself initially (though the implication was when Dan got to Oklahoma City, he started anonymously bad-mouthing her; which set the stage for Connie to get the boot from CBS about a month later)0 points
