I have to admit, this looks pretty good: It also makes me want to see what the black box looks like with just the 3 in it. Anyone want to mock that up? Oh, and is Morgan Freeman aware that he's apparently been cloned? Because that's who Ukee Washington's voice reminds me of -- in a good way, of course.6 points

Word is they were looking for something ‘distinctive’ and after playing around with 2-3 different colors.. settled on green. They wanted to get away from using blue (arguably the most popular color currently used) and red is, of course, synonymous with breaking news. While they may not admit it, I think , subconsciously, they were likely leaning toward green to play off the Eagles colors from the beginning. I do wonder what other colors they were considering.3 points

I'm surprised cable still beats broadcast viewership. The main reason I can assume is that cable (and satellite barring severe weather) gurantees a clear signal. OTA digital channels glitch and sometimes are temporarily unavalible due to poorer signal and antenna brands.2 points

I hope design packages embrace black, browns, yellows and purples more instead of the general blue and white, breaking red, and morning orange looks. Not CBS but Nightly News woth Tom Brokaw used brown and purple effectively in the early 00s.2 points

Green is a rare color for stations but KYW pulls it off well. Loving the Philadelphia Eagles shade of green. The new CBS package in't all that great, but touches of uniqueness like these is what adds flare and authenciticty.2 points

KYW-TV is CBS's pet project in more ways than one, it's fully repudiating and excoriating the past Dunn/Friend regime. Making Ukee Washington the literal face and voice of the station (in more ways that one) speaks volumes. If you didn't see Ukee deliver KYW's new mission statement during the 5pm newscast, you really should seek out the airchecks. What if the varied color palettes are intentional? What's to say they want the O&Os to try various color schemes and this is being worked out open-source between the stations? Of course I'm a Browns fan, so Eagles green >>>>> Steelers black-n-yellow, sorry yinz all lmao2 points

Give me an old John Wayne or Perry Mason/Raymond Burr classic any day. Cheers, Seinfeld, Home Improvement too. The Conners is one of the few first-run sitcoms left that still follows a classic comedic format, not modernized and PC. It's been the trend for a good 10 years and especially took over during and post-Covid.1 point

I don't watch anything new, although I do admit that the commercials for the new True Lies series make it look like it would be an interesting show. But I doubt I will get into the habit of watching it. I miss the days of shows like The Fugitive. It was a pretty simple formula. 1. Richard Kimble and a new city tracking down the one armed man, 2. Worksa menial job, 3. Makes friends with a co-worker or somebody in that town, 4. Something goes wrong and puts him in jeopardy, 5. Moral lesson: He always steps up and does the right thing, even if it puts him in jeopardy. Shows these days either preach to us about something (race, gays, transgender) or incorporate too much of the gutter lifestyle. That's why I like watching the old shows. Simple and I don't feel like I have to scrub myself clean after watching them.1 point

This video explains the concept of "channel drift" really well, a topic we've heavily discussed. I recall Flavor of Love, I Love New York, Keeping up with the Kardashians and Rev Run's House really signaled the programing shift in the mid 2000s for me. At least Game Show Network, Food Network and HGTV have largely retained their niche.1 point

They'll never admit to the trades, "we went with a logo that hadn't seen the light of day since NBC was thrown back to Cleveland in 1965" because it would be insane to say. BUT it's pretty clear they looked long and hard at the station's history, saw that "3" and felt it would be better than the Westinghouse font or that Helvetica "3"... they went with the throwback on purpose.1 point

Exactly what I was referring to earlier. I was actually a big fan of this look and the direction it was going. It tied in nicely with the network's "More Colorful" promo campaign. Also the stations DID have the option to retain their channel number branding. As you can see WNBC was to stay NBC 4 New York, WCAU was to rebrand to NBC 10 Philadelphia, KNSD eventually became NBC 7 San Diego after being just NBC San Diego when they launched the look. But yes NBC was WAY ahead of its time given the blow back they got from most of the O&Os when this was coming down the pike.1 point

@24994Jdid a mock in the Discord for WBBM with the Bears colors, and it actually looks good! (I won't share unless he'd want to lol) The aforementioned B+C article did have this quote from Adrienne which is making me think "open source" more and more... Basically, this feels like it's a "sum of all parts" among the stations, and KYW might have served as an ice-breaker. Ironically this has the feeling of something @Samanthasuggested to me once: the idea of a station group (she was thinking about Gray) creating a graphics package or branding conventions with different colors for different regions.1 point

I was wondering the same thing. If this opens the door for say WJZ to go purple (wouldn't be the first time they went with a crazy color scheme) for the Ravens, or WBBM go dark blue and orange for the Bears or blue and red for the Cubs? It seems like everything is in play. This does remind me of when NBC tried to implement this strategy back in 2011. The stations all had a choice of color schemes to go with.1 point

Wow, that Eagles green looks great; way better than it has any right to be. Certainly blows Black-and-Gold out of the water for personalized GFXs colors in my eyes.1 point

Just going by what all the GMs and the head of the division have all said, their goal is basically to merge the CBS News brand with the local fabric of each station with each station going about it the way it fits their market. Flame away if you disagree. I don't care. Lol Everything looks great but fail on that dated skyline image. Also they're using the new Next Weather gfx.1 point

The final product is green, but unfortunately, the 3 is co-branded with the CBS eye in the box, like New York and others. Paired with the black ticker, it's a very handsome look.1 point

I do sometimes wonder how broadcast can sustain that many celebrity gossip shows - ET, Access, Dish, TMZ, Inside and Extra. I understand that if they keep on surviving it's got to be because there's enough news for them and enough of an audience for each, but it still seems a bit unsustainable in the long run. We already lost Insider a few years ago after all.1 point

She's filling in on GMA3 As for the Wikipedia article, they also list Cheryl Scott as the senior meteorologist from 2022-2023 so I wouldn't give that edit too much thought If she left for GMA3 they would have mentioned it by now1 point

Take this with a grain of salt but Radar is saying Kaitlan Collins is moving to the 9pm slot temporarily as a trial starting next week . If true, sure adds more fuel to the fire. I quite enjoy Katilan Collins. I like her style and she seems very well connected to get the scoop on a lot of things. As for Don Lemon, I liked him when he was here at WMAQ in Chicago but I would agree I feel his ego has been inflated too big and he comes across pompous and arrogant most of the time. While I'll typically agree with his views its his delivery that I don't quite enjoy. I tried watching CNN this morning. I enjoy Poppy and Kaitlan more than Don.1 point

It happens everywhere, we just learn of it more often when it happens in television because a reporter or anchor that viewers see daily is suddenly removed from a program. In some cases, it’s also a credit to the network and its corporate parent that they take allegations seriously these days and will now act on things swiftly and publicly unlike other industries where behavior like this is still swept under the rug.1 point

They can ask him to report from the field or any other studio as they please … I’m sure we’ll see a “Rob Marciano has departed ABC News and we thank him for his contributions to our organization” statement in the near future.1 point

Unless anything unflattering comes out, sounds like ABC is just fulfilling Marciano's contract with them, which means they'd probably not renew it. They literally found a replacement for him on GMA Weekend. The writing is on the wall.1 point

According to the Nielsen website (CLICK HERE), the majority of us Americans are streaming MORE than watching OTA and Cable TV. Most people aren't coming home to watch the local newscasts on TV. People get their news online. Gone are the days of local newscasts at convenient viewing times. How are local stations getting with the times? I tried finding local stations to stream live on my ROKU TV but no luck there. I do know that Paramount+ not only lets me stream CBS shows, but there's a way to watch my local CBS affiliate LIVE with commercials with my subscription. On the Peacock streaming service, I discovered that for $10 more a month, I could stream my local NBC affiliate LIVE.0 points

Shows like 24, Alias, and Smallville had huge 'appointment TV' fan bases. Everyone had to wait until the next episode and were predicting what would happen next to the characters. But that was going on 20 years ago. With Dr. Phil and (likely) Rachael Ray closing the curtains this year, broadcast syndication continues to decline too. It's cheaper to sell more lawyer and political advertising during a 3:00 or 4:00 newscast. Cheaper costs for the station as they don't need a Hollywood broadcast crew to do it.0 points
