  3. See, I think all of this is stupid. Not you. Stupid that they feel the need to have such an insanely bloated anchor roster, yet refuse to declare the vacant noon chair, and use a weird solo-solo split weekend morning schedule. But this is all for another thread.

  4. I know all 3 won’t be on in one newscast. I’m just saying that if the article is saying Brittany is taking on mornings and Dani is doing the 10am that means they’ll all be in the building at the same time. Sam seems to have very cushy terms so him (not) picking up extra air time wouldn’t shock me. I’m just saying it would make more sense if he did mornings then let’s just say Brittany did the 10am, noon and maybe 4. But the article clearly says Brittany is taking on weekday mornings

  5. Glad to see Matthew Keys out of prison… again… Several station groups have GMs who also serve as regional VPs. I don’t know that this means they are getting rid of that position altogether. Edit: He just updated his bullshit story. Scripps denied the rumors of the layoffs.

  7. I Do realize that what I’m about to bring up seems to be old, but I honestly have to say that syndication should try American versions of UK game shows, like (cough) Pointless, and keep it an hour length. I’ll bet it would be a decent lead-in to the news. I’ll bet CBS wouldn’t mind it on most of their O&O’s at 3pm, before the 4pm news. I say it’s better than 48 Hours or Dateline reruns. Otherwise syndication would be going through the motions to a point where it ultimately dies. Now, IF you’re wondering why I want this to be in syndication, IF you put it on a network, it is likely they’ll dumb it down to a point where you’re so turned off that you ultimately prefer the UK counterpart. But what if you wanted to Be on the UK counterpart, well unless you’re a British citizen, you cannot be a contestant on it, and you don’t Have all the time in the World to be a UK citizen. Another Slap in the face, right there. Oh, as for why I say most of the O&O’s, KDKA’s 3pm news, I’m sure is #1. So, in Pittsburgh, it would have to be on WPKD. Sorry for my stance on US counterparts of UK game shows, but Dumbing Down US counterparts turns me off, and it is unlikely Who Wants to be a millionaire will ever come back. I wish that would, and With a live audience.

  8. Except for the fact that most ABC affiliates on the east coast air GH at 2pm. The O&Os did briefly as well when Katie was at 3pm. WPVI has Sarah at noon, with John Paul filling the vacant chair most of the time. So I don’t anticipate any update needed there. I’m surprised they are bringing in both Nydia and Alyana for 10am, as they are both on weekend AM, so will they move off those newscasts? It also now means they have 10 weekday anchors, 12 if you count Alicia and Christie. As for WABC, I could see Shirleen moving off the noon, and Liz taking over.

  9. The TVNewsCheck article relayed the ABC press release, word-for-word. https://abcotvpress.com/stations/wabc-tv-new-york/releases/abc-owned-television-stations-announce-10-oclock-morning-newscasts-for-abc7-wabc-tv-new-york-6abc-wpvi-tv-philadelphia-andabc11-wtvd-tv-raleigh-durham-stationsbeginning-sept-11/ That said, I do feel like there are some details that still need to be ironed out, namely the potential need to update the noon assignments at both WABC and WPVI, but those things will surely become more clear, down the line.

  10. I almost feel the article is missing something or is just wrong. That aside and not to speculate but could Sam also be winding down and maybe just do off camera stuff and special assignments (Weather or Not etc..) and lighter reports and let Brittany do AMs and Dani afternoons?

  11. You guys keep forgetting Sam doesn’t do Fridays someone has to fill in those days. That could me I’ll be rotating meteorologists that could explain it.
    1 point
  12. I think Sam might be featured as a third chair anchor type. Think Sal Castaneda at KTVU. He does traffic in the earlier shows, but is a featured contributor to their 9am hour. Sounds like Dani will handle the 10am weather duties.

  13. Still seems weird to now have 4 meteorologists assigned to weekdays (Sam, Brittany, Dani, & Lee) and only 1 (Jeff) on weekends for now. I thought hiring Dani was supposed to alleviate some of burden. That's usually the point of having 5 meteorologists on staff. The channel 7 strategy is very confusing. The only other thing I can think of is Dani taking over weekend mornings for good and only working 2-3 days during the week at 10:00 & Noon

  14. Seems like succession planning on the weather front more than anything. Jeff remaining on weekend evenings is not an insult to him or his tenure, their weekend PM teams are easily the most respected newscasts outside of the weekday evening broadcasts. EWN at 5 just promoted tomorrow’s show with Mike in the graphic. Was an official announcement ever made?

  15. They'll probably alternate who works the 10am & Noon. I doubt we'll ever see 3 meteorologists on one newscast on a regular basis, unless there's a big storm
    1 point
  16. The article also says Dani working the 10am? Seems a little overkill to have all 3 in the mornings.. no? Also leaving Jeff on weekends again seems a little unfair as he’s more than deserving of a weekday spot

  20. The ticker, sans time and temperature, popped up just in time for sports on the 6:00. (Just realized that it only showed scores and was only used for sports. It returned to the regular static look right after Otis wrapped.)

  22. Well, prime time used to start at 7:30 before it was moved to 8 by the FCC over concerns that the Big 3 had too much power. They later got the 7 pm hour back on Sundays, but by the time the law was repealed for good, syndication companies had been making a mint on that real estate for two decades, and have kept the networks from taking that time back (outside of the few OTA networks that program more or less 24/7 like Ion). TL;DR, it's kinda prime time, but only officially on Sundays, because that's the only day of the week the networks program that hour.

  23. Don't know if other Tegna NBC stations are doing this or not, but KUSA is copying the TODAY Show & NBC NIGHTLY NEWS, with a coutdown clock during the first commercial break during the10PM newscast. (It might also be on KTVD but have not watched the 9pm newscast.) They started this Monday 8/13/23..

  24. Just a total guess but it’s likely they’re also upgrading CG systems at the same time, which takes time to install and test before going on air with. I think they are a mix of Vertigo and Viz and who knows what else, they could be trying to upgrade stations to the same system which makes transferring templates easier.

  26. Set is definitely an improvement... Graphics though, yikes... I attached a weather graphic and they definitely need to adjust font sizes becasue there's a lot of overlapping going on... I'm sure a lot of these will get ironed out throughout the week...

  28. I’ve been harsh on WABC in the recent past too (and probably too harsh in hindsight), but it can’t be overstated that we probably wouldn’t have local news as it exists today without the Eyewitness News format. When it debuted, it must’ve been a complete shock to people who were only used to hearing TV news from a rehearsed, baritone announcer preaching it to them, or from some newsreel. In a city like NY, the format still fits like a glove IMO.

  30. Pretty cool seeing all the anniversary messages from former anchors and reporters. It was interesting to see Lori Stokes do one, Kaity Tong did one from the PIX11 set abd Rosanna did one from the GDNY couch

  36. The future of Big 3 affiliates in all markets #1-#50. If it ain't network programming, it's news. More news. And more news. Cutlers Court sounds like a CW+ pickup. It's either that or KCYU/KFFX in central WA. Yes, NTT is repeats from the 2021 and 2022 seasons, in 1/2 hour strips. *Could Beat Shazam be next, I wonder? Especialy IF Jamie and Corinne were to return? His latest health update has more good news in it.
