Due to the 11th hour-nature of the pickup, it's probably going to be this way for this year. Sinclair is basically having to create a new channel to build the CW programming around. By next year, it may resemble more of a CW-like station lineup once deals are secured. I"m assuming that the ex-CW stations owned by CBS are still going to be carried by YouTube TV? They've traditionally carried their existing independents like WLNY, KCAL and WTXA. KOCB may be dropped unless Sinclair elects to keep them on. It would be their only independent station on YouTube TV. And Nexstar should be running with all of their new affiliates, sans WADL since that deal hasn't closed yet?2 points

New studio and graphics for France 2's news programs, including 20h and 13h. Set is smaller then their last one, which was huge, but is a nice successor and the graphics are just as elegant.1 point

Nexstar has a real challenge on its hands with KUSI, and it's not just an integration and construction challenge. KUSI was the most unabashedly conservative TV newsroom in a major market anywhere. Embarrassingly so. And they will be dealing with angry viewers of that persuasion. But anyone external to the McKinnons and right-wing politics probably looks at KUSI and goes "yikes". Heck, I think even someone who came to KUSI from a Sinclair station would be shocked. There is a difference between a conservative lean, justifiable in San Diego, and just being a peddler of conservative disinformation. KUSI was frequently the latter. And Nexstar is only a "left-wing" operation if you're so far off to the right that NewsNation is radically left.1 point

Now if they only hadn’t fired all of their designers who would be able to help build the 3D models to make this thing worthwhile… Nah. I’m sure that weather guy is a pro designer and can really make this thing sing.1 point

I think most of us get this...it just sucks that this is the turn television has taken. The "let's just plug all the programming holes with news" way. Yes tv is a buainess, and I'm all for profitablility, but the all news all day trend with no effort into alternative programming is extreme. Especially in the age of cutting the coard it would be nice if there was good stuff to watch on broadcast but I suppose that's what streaming is for. Anyway this issue is beyond WABC.1 point

It's too bad KBCB got TCT'ed after Fox's attempted purchase during their triennial fight with Tribune over KCPQ's affiliation. What I'm more surprised about is that Nexstar didn't make a modest attempt to get it on KFFV or KVOS, or they did and Weigel shut them out entirely, saying 'why? We're losing CW in Chicago no matter what, why should we help you out and lose viewer goodwill from Me or H&I prime being pre-empted?'. This has to be on par with WJMN being dumped from CBS in big L's for Perry.1 point

Comet is essentially syndicated programming. It's as watchable as any other station's lineup. I'll take reruns of The X-Files over a Byron Allen court show. It wouldn't be out of place on an independent station in another era. I'm surprised we don't see more stations fill non-network/news hours with programming from their in-house diginet rather than spending money on dwindling syndicated fare. If Nexstar wants to cut CW's programming costs, why not nuke the syndicated CW+ shows and fill the time with a mix of programming from their diginets?1 point

Agree with everything but the last part; if anything, it’s sensible on Sinclair’s part to just use their existing diginet as filler (at least for the time being) instead of spending a boatload on syndicated fare to essentially program a new station from the ground up (with two days notice, mind you). If anyone is to blame for this, it’s Nexstar for not being able to grab an affiliate until the 11th hour.1 point

I totally get where you’re coming from though; sorry if I sounded harsh there. It’s just that they’re not going to put more effort than they need to for a 10am newscast for precisely the reasons you mentioned.1 point

I think part of the problem is that Nexstar...err...Mission hasn't fully acquired the station yet and I highly doubt Adell is working with Hulu and YTTV to get their channel on those two platforms as they have one foot out the door already.1 point

Just watched the first newscast- was nice to have Dick back as anchor; I could honestly seem them also having a rotating team of Dick, Dana, Maurice and Kristine doing the 8pm. As I expected it is branded as "CBS 2 News at 8". I wonder if any "New York 55" branding would make its way onto news, but doesn't seem like it if they want the CBS brand on sister stations. That is very interesting. Another interesting note- I also noticed that on weekends, it seems there will be no "CBS 2 News at 8"; but on Sundays from 8pm-9:30 WLNY will air a repeat of CBS Sunday Morning!1 point

KAUT's switch to CW was made official today as well. It's still an odd, isolated decision. Horse trading between Nexstar and Sinclair? Either way, Freedom 43 gives way to CW 43.1 point

I like this a lot... Excited to see this roll out to other prior Meredith stations!1 point

When Gray purchased Meredith, they inherited their graphics hub. Matt Quinn was the lead designer. GrayONE is built off the bones of the outgoing Meredith graphics package.1 point

And a new studio! Two questions ... Was GrayONE developed from WFSB's prior package? They seem so similar to me (please don't come at me too hard if I'm way off base on their similarities) Why do some stations prefer the meteorologist in front of monitors rather than the chromakey (WFSB is doing this with their new studio)? Maybe it's me, but as a viewer I find the graphics much easier to see and read off the chromakey, and it often feels unnatural when the meteorologist has to turn fully from the camera and face the screen versus turning 90 degrees to look at a monitor.1 point

Beginning today, KGTV moved their morning news up to 5am. “Early Rush” from Scripps News now occupies the 4:30am half hour. https://www.tvpassport.com/tv-listings/stations/abc-kgtv-san-diego-ca/1877 This certainly follows the creeping trend of stations vacating the 4am hour, and it’s also indicative of Scripps’ plan to integrate Scripps News with their local TV stations.1 point

WCBS New York lost another member of their family in Dr. Max Gomez, their chief medical correspondent. He rejoined the station in 2007, following an earlier run at WCBS in the 1990s. Kinda curious to see what will happen editorially with KUSI. Will the current mgmt from KSWB allow them to continue with their slanted perspective & the reporters/anchors making themselves part of the story with opinions (i.e. Dan Plante), or have them tone it down? Seems like KUSI is already operating with a bare-bones on-air staff, so I doubt they'll make cuts there.0 points
