The only way they can make the newscasts better is by having each station serve their respective markets, not this consolidated nonsense.2 points

Bill Ritter doing the Sunday 11pm news tonight. He wasn't on at 6. Can't be because of high viewership, since ABC didn't have the Super Bowl. I'm assuming that WCBS will have their regular weekday crew when their news finally comes on (update - they are).1 point

Trying to justify the purchase of what was an HD-era experimental channel otherwise bound for HC2 irrelevancy. The entire WHDT purchase made no sense from the start at all; sure, you get an overflow station, but what else can you do with that station outside guaranteeing full coverage for your subnets? The CW isn't moving, you've got WFLX and Fox already via sidecar, and the Ion flagship is just as sidecarred. I wouldn't be surprised if the purchase came with a Mar-a-Lago membership a la WLNY.1 point

There is considerably more leeway for some of the shows. Not a complete free-for-all, but the timing of some of the shows absolutely varies market to market, and that doesn't take into consideration how things are adapted for western time zones when sports coverage is factored in. But as to zeroing in on use of "the first...." - that may be overthinking it a smidge.1 point

I believe that started after Dabl switched from lifestyle shows to Black sitcoms. I noticed StartTV had started airing Drew while late-night channel surfing a couple of weeks after the Dabl format change.1 point

I would literally pay extra for a 'clean feed' with just a simple scorebug and no tickers; every new sports service seems to think it's required to appeal to the 'prop bet on random Bangladeshi netball at 4:30 in the morning' category of bettors. I really hope that information isn't baked into the video of this service.1 point

Kaity Tong noted that for now she's anchoring the 10pm weekend newscasts. John Muller will anchor 6pm Sunday.1 point

Seems like that H and C Communications (Hobby family of Houston) really liked to borrow elements from Belo graphics during the late 1980s. All 'clear' examples of following are from the roughly same time frame. KPRC-TV Channel Two News 6p WESH NewsCenter 2 6p WTVF Eyewitness News 10p With possibly similar traces (panorama still of Des Moines skyline, then the anchors' personal shots) also present at KCCI's TV8 News back then. *Their lone holdout seems to be KVOA! For comparison: KHOU back then, when it was Houston's (genuine XD) Belo station1 point

Yeah I'm not seeing anything from the new package... except for the aforementioned correct ABC logo1 point

IMS does this so they can "so-call" boost attendance. They want seats to be filled at IMS for the big race. This "put the race on TV, no one will come to the stands" mantra is so backwards-thinking. Why you want to hinder the local viewers from watching the race live on TV? NFL use to do this (if there's no sell-out 72 hrs before the game).1 point

Seems like a pretty good hire, and will hopefully make a good partner for Arrianee. My guess is the same as above (Kendis/Arrianee for 4pm and 5pm and Shirley/Kori for 6pm/6:30pm/10pm). He is also one of "New York's very own", as they say.1 point

The tape delay ratings in the Indy market still beat out the live ratings in other markets. So for WISH, it would give them a huge boost.1 point

I wouldn’t bet on it. The live broadcast of the Indy 500 has been blacked out in Indianapolis for decades.1 point

Mission's stations were pulled from Dish in early January 2023, so 54 weeks have passed between the start and resolution of the dispute. Mission's dispute with DirecTV began three months before the Dish dispute.1 point

Sure. But it's like saying calling NBC Comcast because they own them.1 point

They are the first to use Warner Chappell music with the package too.. This was a very well deserved upgrade for KWQC1 point

Studio space might not be an issue. KDNL's old studios at 1215 Cole Street were up for sale last year, as they jumped ship to Brentwood, MO where the Allman Report was being filmed. If Scripps and/or Weigel wants an in town studio that's turn-key, 1215 Cole is it. https://www.loopnet.com/Listing/1215-Cole-St-Saint-Louis-MO/27232037/ If we are "news saturated" that seems to be news to people here. A quick look at any newscast that KMOV has proves a lot of news is being left on the table. KPLR isn't really producing much of anything, other than essentially a rebroadcast of the previous KTVI newscast. It's leaving KSDK and the Post-Dispatch to find rest of the news out there, but they don't have the resources. We need another functioning newsroom. Spectrum News doesn't really have any sort of obvious presence.1 point

If ABC was truly that concerned about St. Louis, then the affiliation would have been taken elsewhere a long time ago. ABC could have even bought a station and started their own news operation if they were that concerned. But, I think they know St. Louis is news saturated and doesn't need another newsroom. They don't have to be "happy" about it, but they also know there's a slim chance that the affiliation would end up on any of the existing news-producing stations, and it's not worth building a new one.1 point

Or a certain orange-skinned individual. This would be a very good time for Sinclair to sell some of their stations, and not just small ones, either. But something tells me the company's response to that would basically be, "If we can't control those stations, NO ONE CAN!"1 point
-
And the tragedy in that is these local newsrooms and network affiliates. Despite being run by Sinclair and pushing out all of their garbage, there are still a lot of talented, competent journalists they employ who know how to cover their communities, and are great at breaking their own stories that often uncover actual corruption.1 point

Absolutely no sane person, no person with a shred of mental competence, would willingly allow themselves to be made a target like David Smith has. This is worse than your typical delusions of grandeur that the likes of Elon Musk have. This has a good chance of not just killing the Sun outright, but coupled with the $500M in legal fees from Diamond's bankruptcy case, could damn well be the death penalty for hundreds of television newsrooms across the country, if not a financial death penalty for David Smith and Sinclair as a whole. I'm going to say it. Something is very, very wrong with David Smith and his mental state.1 point

I think they and PVI pay more attention to their generational (older) viewers and in WABCs case ethnic communities who might be newer to the language. Both groups probably value straightforward, easy to see and digest info on the screen over the latest design trends. And the older viewers are creatures of habit. Kind of like the Wheel / Jeopardy approach - change is gradual and iterative.1 point

Here we go ... KRCR ... Northern California's legacy snoozefest ... now has three solo anchors for their evening newscasts. Glenn Cassie has been added there. So, one anchor from 5-6 that retires every few years and then comes back, one from 6:30-7, and then one that does 7/10/11. Either they're prepping for a third retirement for the 5 anchor or they have money to spend. A better idea would be to pair up and have traditional two anchor newscasts because the 6:30 person is very green.1 point

David Smith wasting over nine figures to buy a newspaper easily, easily trumps the Diamond Sports disaster he committed in 2019. The three words that will make this vanity project a personal hell for him: "Cancel my subscription".1 point

The Sun is certainly running with that “local ownership” line, and I suppose “local ownership” is a tangible improvement compared to being owned by a hedge fund. But I’d bet any money that the editorial leanings and journalistic standards of the paper will be drastically different than they are now. Hasn’t David Smith thrown enough money away already? Nobody was rooting for him to become dollar store Rupert Murdoch.1 point

Regarding WBOC being dropped: Breezeline says it’s about not wanting to pay two affiliates. https://policyband.com/blog/spokesman--breezeline-dropped-cbs-affiliate-wboc-to-manage-costs Significantly Viewed does still exist but this is the reason most providers are dropping duplicate affiliates.1 point

A sad day in Baltimore, since the Sun was a vocal critic of David Smith and his escalation of Sinclair into a national powerhouse of propaganda. Given their current state under Alden, it sadly may actually be an improvement, since the paper is once again under "local" ownership.1 point

The real question, does any of their viewers that are left even notice? Changing the color of the CW logo is meh in reality. Again, it probably does not matter to a viewer.1 point

He'll sell off eventually, but instead of the big payday he expected like he did when he gutted 910 to become the market's conservative failure station, he's going to soon find Innovate, TCT or WRNN are the only ones wanting to buy. And it'll be interesting to see where Nexstar's equivalent deal with KAZT actually goes. He had a golden goose in 1994, but those days are long gone.1 point

The FCC has issued a $150,000 fine against WPIX owner Mission Broadcasting over the station's carriage dispute with Comcast, which filed a complaint against Mission concerning its de facto control by Nexstar and its involvement in carriage deals involving Mission shortly before the dispute was resolved in December 2022.1 point

Wow, that's so poorly written it makes me question factual accuracy. Once I see two spelling and/or punctuation errors, I'm done. But with all the speculation and the lack of proofreading aside, it wouldn't surprise me if it actually does happen.1 point

The station that uses Dimensional the best is CBS 5. I don't understand why the other O&O's don't use the full package like CBS 5 does.1 point
-
I’m don’t work at a station, just a casual viewer. IMO, the graphics look sharp and are a massive improvement over what they replaced. My one criticism is that the L3s (especially the logo bug) take up a large chunk of the screen at all times, and a constant headline ticker isn’t really necessary most of the time. Otherwise, I’ve got no issues with them. However, the music is really, *really* repetitive and dull, and it’s already become stale imo. I was hoping there would be more cuts of “Dimensional”, but it’s a really limited music package.1 point

Really liking the new graphics and scorebug for Monday Night Football on ESPN. Not only did they go back to the neon feel, but it's much more improved and cleaned up. And on top of that, they removed the yellow venom which is a step up. Not surprised tho that they kept the same bottom bar layout taking up the whole screen. Given that they will broadcast Super Bowl LXI in 2027 and since they have a common pattern of changing up their look every 4 years, it wouldn't surprise me if they wait until that Super Bowl to make any dramatic changes to the scorebug as well as their entire graphics look.1 point
