Nexstar is purchasing WBNX from Ernest Angley, forming a duopoly with WJW. WBNX will reaffiliate with The CW on Sept. 1, 2025.4 points

There go the days of their fall schedule being released in May or June ahead of time.2 points

It is my understanding that FCC rules preserve the rights of affiliates to pre-empt network programming as necessary (it was only a few years ago when most of the NBC affiliate body opted out of airing a 30 Rock upfront special that included promotions for Peacock).2 points

WVBS posted a tweet about it in the day of the announcement, and Maurice posted it in his own instagram.2 points

If this sale goes through, WBNX is about to be a sister station to WJW and a CW O&O. https://www.tvtechnology.com/news/nexstar-expands-presence-in-cleveland-buying-wbnx I guess hell is finally freezing over.1 point

With WJW's ownership, does acquiring WBNX now give them the UHF discount in Cleveland? They've been trying to move WJW back to UHF going back to LocalTV....I could see this as a move to increase cap space if it prevails.... Weigel will probably take back their subchannels, and what's left could all end up on WBNX's frequency. The Sinclair diginets will probably get sent packing as well.1 point

Already decided. WUAB next fall will be part RESN and part MyNetworkTV. https://tvnewscheck.com/programming/article/more-live-local-sports-my-network-programming-on-wuab-cleveland-next-fall/1 point

Did not expect to see "national weather correspondent" Rob Marciano doing the weather this morning. No mention of John or Tony that I noticed (though they often don't acknowledge when half of the weather team is out)).1 point

Sinclair would be foolish to pull this with any of the other major networks they are affiliated with, but Nexstar's CW is still going to be a punching bag, especially for a rival broadcaster like Sinclair with similar (ulterior) motives...1 point

Wow, this is a very interesting development. John is the life of WCBS morning news (and of course Elise was great, but the energy with John was always superior in my opinion). I agree that the whole "team weather" thing was unnecessary, but it was different. Also with Tony, John, Lonnie, Vanessa and Craig Allen, there are more meteorologists hired at WCBS than shifts as defined in the past. So it is possible that he is being let go, as horrible as that would be. I do like the theory of John handling noon and 5pm perhaps when Lonnie expands duties for the CBS Evening News. Hopefully he's not being pushed out completely. That would be so unfair for all that he has done for that station, but it happened to Andrea Grymes and Dana Tyler.1 point

You know the political ad buying is getting hot in Wisconsin when ads for their US Senate and State Assembly Races are airing in Minneapolis for the sliver of Wisconsin counties that are a part of the market. Kind of odd that Gray is only doing it with WBAY when they have stations that cover most of Wisconsin (WMTV, WEAU, WSAW, KBJR). So much more opportunity to grab those political ad dollars serve and inform the community.1 point

I like this idea. It feels like they're afraid to stray from the AMHQ branding (for ratings purposes, idk?), but having the show end at 2pm ET is just silly at this point. I remember back in like 2021, if Jen and Alex's show ever extended past 12pm ET due to severe weather/hurricane coverage, the 12pm ET hour would be run as an unbranded hour instead of AMHQ, because they refused to push the AMHQ brand into the afternoon. Funny how that's all out the window now.1 point
-
WBAY will be pushing ET to late night next week for extended hour-long 6pm shows through the election, and likely quite a few other stations throughout Gray; kinda a shock that WANF doesn't have have anything at 7:30 and has TBBT reruns instead.1 point

I would've split America's Morning Headquarters into two 4-hour shows instead of having it run a whole 8 hours under one singular name, but maybe that's just me. Have AMHQ be from 6-10am (5-9am Central) while re-titling the 10am-2pm (9am-1pm Central) block as "Daily Recharge" (a weekday version of Weekend Recharge).1 point

Thinking back to like 2020-2021 when Weather Center Live still existed, the program guide called the show "The Weather Channel LIVE" using the exact same show description, so I'm definitely curious to see if this show will be Weather Center Live or something brand new. I'm curious to see if Jacqui and/or the two Chris's will be hosting this afternoon show. But yeah, live programming until 10pm ET? When's the last time that was on TWC's regular schedule?1 point

Schedule shakeup: Beginning Monday 10/28/24: AMHQ: 6am-2pm The Weather Channel Live: 2pm-6pm Weather Unfiltered: 6pm-10pm Storm Center is no more as confirmed by Jacqui Jeras Facebook post. I'm excited they are expanding weather into primetime again and moving Weather Unfiltered there. I've always loved that show and it makes sense to move it to primetime. One thing that does not make sense is AMHQ going into the afternoon. It is a morning show. They should just do The Weather Channel live or better yet bring back Weather Center: Live. We'll have to see on Monday what The Weather Channel Live will be and who is going to be the meteorologists. But the best news is we're getting more Live Weather Channel hours regularly for the first time in YEARS.1 point

A couple of strange design choices by CBS 2 CBS NEW YORK at the NY-17 debate tonight, streaming online and airing on Channel 55. First, the bug seems to be frozen in a strange place where the "CBS News" is larger than "New York" at the beginning of the intro animation. (Usually they're either about the same size, as you see on the background, or sometimes the "New York" is much larger.) Second, the backdrop makes it look like they're using SD video and putting a graphic on the sides. It's like they designed this without thinking about how it would look on TV.1 point

That is...really stupid. The CW/WB took advantage (outside the big markets) of the fact that it had entertainment that night and was the only place viewers could go for something new. In many markets, NN is right next to the local CW station as a legacy of its WGN carriage (a station that's sending that simulcast right to the .3, just like KTLA and WPIX), so the simulcast is nigh pointless for anyone outside the Nexstar boardroom. You also know that the Sinclair stations are out at 10 for NND, so why even try to go to midnight outside the main CW base? ETA - Yeah, Sinclair's definitely not simulcasting News Nation on their CW affiliates on the 5th; extended primetime NND that night. Wonder if Gray's will air Local News live instead then.1 point

Jeopardy! EP Davies disclosed as much a few weeks ago on that show's podcast. The goal is for a likely-next day option to be available at the start of the 2025-26 season.1 point

Snuck in very quietly into this profile of Wheel EP Bellamie Blackstone from Deadline is a mention that the show (and likely Jeopardy!, though not mentioned) will soon be shopped for day-of or day-after streaming of new episodes (don't know if it's SPT direct or through CBSMV). It's been a whisper for awhile, but seems the process is now starting.1 point

I’m not sure why some expected a total refresh. Basically Bally’s ended their naming deal and FanDuel stepped in. When (if) Diamond/Sinclair emerges from bankruptcy, FanDuel may invest but won’t be the controlling owner based on what has been disclosed.1 point

I don’t know that they really needed to go all out with new music and graphics and it’s not as if they had a lot of time.1 point

Funny enough, Brooks was weeknight co-anchor at KOKH for seven years, before moving up I-44 to KJRH. Given Sinclair’s political leanings, the fact that management at KOKH/KOCB did not appear to have any issue with his sexuality (that we know of) but his then-GM at KJRH (whose parent company’s editorial leanings are decidedly neutral) did is ironic to say the least.1 point

Canada This is THE coolest thing ever. You know you've made it when your country's postal service creates a stamp after you or something culturally significant. In this case... Canada's first-ever 24-hour music video channels (English in 1984; French in 1986) took Canada by storm and changed the way Canadians accessed music on television. Ladies and gentlemen... Canada Post stamps for MuchMusic and MusiquePlus. https://store.canadapost-postescanada.ca/store-boutique/en/414262111/p/muchmusic-musiqueplus-2024-permanent-domestic-rate-stamps-booklet-of-81 point

- Spain Longtime Telecinco presenter Jose Ribagorda has left the network after a stellar 18 year run on weekends. It's the only network he's ever worked at, albeit a brief run at TVE in the early 2000s. Speaking of, they poached Carlos Franganillo from TVE nearly a year ago to do their 9pm edition and starting next weekend, they were able to poach away Maria Casado as well to do their weekend editions as Jose's replacement. https://www.telecinco.es/noticias/20240915/despedida-jose-ribagorda-presentador-informativos-telecinco-fin-semana_18_013454176.html1 point

WBBM has improve under Jennifer Lyons leadership. Their main anchor team is solid and better than ABC7's 10pm team. Their reporting bench is solid and have a better investigating team than ABC7. The weather team is good, buts needs more people added with the uncertainty of Ed Curran. All they need to do is add a couple Meteorologists and fix the morning news. WFLD still struggles, but better than it was 5-10 plus years ago.1 point

i hate HATE HATE VR sets. Is this the beginning of the end? I surely hope not. They are the norm in Germany and the've always looked like crap. Its just a cheap way to get out of building physical sets. Boring.1 point

Nexstar's DC bureau is located in the same building as NBC/FOX/C-SPAN. It possible they renovated/expanded that space for NewsNation DC ops because this view of the capital (which I assume is from real windows) is pretty much identical to Fox News DC. That said, my guess is that this is just another studio (in the same building).1 point

DW News has debuted new graphics, including a new thumbnail design (getting rid of the old serif font), and lower thirds, which seem to be leaning towards a deeper shade of blue then what the network has used in the past. Intro and in studio graphics are the same but those might change too, will watch over the coming days for any other changes.1 point

Today is a very sad day across Northeast Ohio media (and on my birthday nonetheless. ). The great, legendary Jim Donovan, has passed away. Cancer took Jimmy away from us at only 68. https://www.wkyc.com/article/entertainment/television/jim-donovan-former-wkyc-sports-anchor-cleveland-browns-radio-voice-passes-away-68/95-36aabdb8-47ab-49e5-b1aa-521f0497f688?fbclid=IwY2xjawGKE9RleHRuA2FlbQIxMQABHdWcsJ03tKfm2gT_bVTWupX6-wRoQoFPIqj_Q2EmupYd3T6-8yEUZtcJ2w_aem_mwiVPFEoLfpbB2876Hnqqg0 points

CBS News New York has updated the recent morning promos to remove John Elliott. I first noticed this today. Sorry for the poor quality photo, but you can see here that the group shot includes the two reporters, Mary Calvi, Chris Wragge, and Tony Sadiku. Previously, this shot included John as as well. This feels deliberate since they must have taped a version of this promo with and without John Elliott. One version of this promo had Chris Wragge saying something along the lines of “I’ve known Mary for 20 years, I’ve known John for 15 years, and now I feel like I’ve known Tony for 10 years.” This version has been updated to remove the line about John and just mentions Tony. Now what? No more “team weather” in the morning, which felt like a gimmick anyway. Is John Elliott out, or back to weekends, or something else? John was last on air Thursday doing team weather with Tony, and Tony was in Friday and is in again this morning with Craig Allen still on medical leave.0 points
