  1. I think it's 47. They probably changed the set's orientation in which the newsroom looks 'into' the set instead of the newsroom serving as the background. We'll find out soon enough.... Part of me feels like they want the new CBS EN to look/feel like a local CBS O&O newscast (using a similar desk, flooring, etc...). Including, based on the aforementioned picture, images of Chicago and SF (?). Even the new promo had a 'news from the heartland' feel to it. They need to differentiate themselves from Nightly and WNT in order to draw people in. Creating a national newscast that feels like a local one would be interesting.

  2. Finally! Their current set is way past outdated. It's the worst of the Fox O&Os

  3. New SR L3s on CBS. Follows the same template as CBS News 24/7, the Evening News, and the O&Os.

  4. Just from this photo alone, I'm getting Studio 1515 (the studio in Times Square) and KCAL/KCNC/WBBM set vibes. The new anchor desk looks exactly like the KCAL/KCNC/WBBM anchor desks (just without the wood border around the front screen), the walls of screens are similar to the walls of screens in Studio 1515, and the color of the wood floor and some structural elements are similar to the KCAL/KCNC/WBBM sets.

  5. Obviously, viewership for all stations really went up last Tuesday: https://variety.com/2025/tv/news/la-fire-local-news-ratings-audiences-double-triple-coverage-1236273532/

  6. After years of being on the old Fox O&O set, KDFW is moving out of Downtown Dallas and to a new building in Irving. The project is expected to be complete in 2026.

  7. Kinda figured that Imagicomm would ultimately decide to cash out after a few years. Outside of INSP and a production company that makes direct-to-video films, them owning TV stations didn't really make much sense other than just holding assets for a company in Cox/Apollo that was looking to dump stuff in order to make its own portfolio more attractive to potential would-be suitors. With ownership rules expected to be loosened (if not outright repealed), nothing should be considered off the table as to who buys who. There may be a trade or two along the way (I'll discuss the rest over in the Speculatron).

  8. Yes, they were friends with Trump. I noted in the LA fires thread that former GDNY anchor Jen Lahmers what's doing the same with her co-host on GDLA. The vitriol against bass seems to be coming from all angles.

  9. Wasn't she always friends with Trump? As for the rest of the folks at Fox5, I noticed last week that Natasha and Bianca were going after LA mayor Bass after the Post reported that she had rejected the help from NYC firefighters. The Post article was updated to say that she denied that happened (maybe even before it was discussed on the broadcast), but I doubt that was ever reported on the air.

  10. A news-heavy, major-market TV station in the nation's capital? I don't see the problem.

  11. They made their point and don’t keep mentioning it perhaps? If it has reason to come up in a weather segment sure, maybe it’s worked in occasionally. But they ran a fairly extensive promo campaign for it and made mention multiple times in those segments. Maybe it’s just time to stop emphasizing it.

  12. I don't think so. WGAL uses that same radar, which is located on the Millersville Univ. campus. WGAL still on occasion airs their Live Local 8 radar promo (brand that replaced Live Super Doppler 8 Radar Network) from time to time. -- Matt

  14. Santiago Peak (5,689 Feet) in Orange County, directly southeast of Mt. Wilson (5,713 feet). Santiago is also far more centralized than Mt. Wilson to the DMA.

  15. Just now realizing but it gives me NRK and SVT vibes.

  16. It's sad to see her go but amazed that she got almost another two decades in her community service role for 10TV. Tegna and other companies think they can cut their way to success with a once-proud station like 10TV.

  18. It sounds like it's akin to the CBS/Viacom split, where Sumner Redstone still controlled both - although he clearly favored Viacom, which kept the "sexier" Paramount Pictures, MTV Networks and BET, over CBS.

  19. With Hoda Kotb and New Orleans in the news, here's Hoda Kotb anchoring WWL 4 News (1992).

  21. As sad as I am to see reporters lose their job, are national bureaus for station groups necessary? Don't network affiliations already fill that void? The only beneficiary I can see is an independent station. It's duplicative for WSB to need Cox Washington packages when ABC News can already cover that. Despite the vast array of media services available to a local station they all cover the same thing. How many sources do we need providing a package on AAA Thanksgiving travel predictions? Wow! Sucks. He had a legacy tie to the station as his dad was big time local anchor Don Farmer. Justin always did this weird singing thing in his anchoring cadence. Has anyone ever noticed this?

  22. I got news for you: local Emmys have ZERO weight on someone's employment. The idea that someone wins a trophy because a producer in Kansas City thinks someone is a great anchor in a market like New York City is pretty wild in the first place.

  23. Because it's licensed in New Jersey unlike WNBC 4 & WABC 7. WNET, the main PBS station in NYC, licensed to Newark is in kinda a similar boat.

  25. I honestly believe this may spell the end of local news in Eureka, CA. Station KIEM - with partner KVIQ (LP) air the only local news after Sinclair closed up shop (on a much better product) and rolled everything to Redding in an adjacent market. I don’t think KIEM will roll into Redding as the other owner is Allen. I don’t think anyone wants KIEM and, if they do, will have trouble keeping news in that stagnant economy. This probably should go in the speculation thread.

  27. How does GDNY perform in the ratings? WNYW has the weakest need operation in the city. If effort was much of an indication, it seems like Fox is just keeping the lights on over there.
