  1. Oh wow. The design of this set took my breath away. Im sure it might have a local meaning but that set it awful. I dont get this trend over past decade of shoehorning in "local" materials or designs no matter how minuscule it might be. That curved bridge thing with a monitor shoved in front of it makes it looks like a local high school talent show production in the school gymnasium/auditorium. I expect to see some teenagers come out and tap dance or try singing in front of it.... Let alone presenting a serious newscast. The logo, brand and graphics are just plain bad. Yeesh. The NonStop local with the red swish looks like a early 2000s dot.com tech start up. It so outdated. And the alt logo with the KHQ and Peacock on top of it looks hideous and just slapdash. Q6 LOCAL NEWS sounded better.

  2. I won't watch until the Continental Soccer League ends up there...with all of the Ariagas, Barriaga, Pizzoza, Aruglia, and a deciding match between Mexico and Portugal...

  3. It's outside of Scripps, but having "Specialists" worked out well for KSTP in the 1980's when they we're #1... How much longer is station groups having their "alerts" going to be a thing? Noticed this on Monday with the storms in Southern Minnesota- Most Twin Cities station issued their "(insert branding here) Alert Day" ahead of the weather and hyped it up all weekend long... Then the day before and day of, the same stations are talking about the importance of staying calm. Eliminate the sensationalism and confusion. Let the NWS do their watches and warnings, relay those.

  5. That is one of the laziest brand names. I'm guessing AI created that. When have you seen a meteorologist slackin' on air? The only one that I see not 'Weather Ready', is Nexstar with a two-hour delay which can have consequences during a weather emergency.

  6. Not Scripps, but KSL uses the "Specialist" branding to this day and has used it for decades. Has been a successful brand for them

  7. When WXYZ switched to the 7 First Alert Weather branding in 2011 they started “7 First Alert Weather Days” not long after. They’ve been gone for years now. WDIV then rebranded their weather to “4 Warn Weather” and started doing “4 Warn Weather Days” which is executed in a ridiculous overhyped fashion. Apparently nobody got the memo there that it’s so last decade.

  8. Apparently the "WMBC 1998 news theme" from NMSA is identified as "Wall Street" from GMP Music (GM 105) Confirmed via comments: The link to the full 90s track i'm sure was also heard in local ads and shows at that time: https://app.gmpmusic.com/ords/f?p=110:42::::RP,42:P42_SGID,P42_RETURN:3E8A3A71D20438E1E050007F0100782E,44&cs=1B3043CABEE16A012860904510AE57606

  14. The new set debuted on April 24. It is an improvement and is a “Top 2” set in a three newsroom market. For some reason, they decided to debut new “lower-thirds” that do not match their existing graphics package or on-air and on-set branding. The new “lower-thirds” and ticker use — insert audible GASP — use what appears to be Tahoma, instead of the Helvetica-esque font on everything else. These are atrocious and would be less so if they at least used the same font family found everywhere else. Cowles rolled the same super and ticker out to their other WA and MT stations, too.

  15. It's a good concept. It can be a lot for reporters learn multiple communities. Having a specific subject or geographic focus allows reporters to gain more expertise in reporting. The problem is MMJing. Do reporters want to one man band until retirement? With anchoress newscasts that also removes a potential escape from MMJing. My question is, is breaking news anyone's game or does it go solely to the neighborhood reporter(s) that covers that area IMO, it would suck for your beat to be an area where nothing exciting happens and isn't prone to breaking news.

  17. Speaking of WXMI, they have launched a re-branded weather team: The Weather Ready Team... with Weather Ready Alerts... Based on the story, it's very similiar sounding to TEGNA's "Weather Impact" branding.. Interested to see if this will be a local thing, or will it be launched at other Scripps stations....

  18. South Florida news scenes from 1978. (Disclaimer: There's one other clip on the channel that for obvious reasons I won't upload it here, the title is called "Chicken Hawk", not the Looney tunes character, while it has scenes from Channel 7 news, it deals with some very disturbing issues)

  19. With things so bad at Scripps, they may have to file for bankruptcy protection. And even then, are they so far gone that stations could be auctioned off or go dark in a nationwide shutdown if they run out of cash?
