You'd be on the mark because they've already got a case study up... https://defiantla.com/work/scripps-news-group-rebrand/3 points

Apologies for hijacking this post, but @bennettmonk, please stop with your irritating reactions; there was nothing funny about this post. You make no comments here. I don't know how else to bring sunlight to this, but these inappropriate reactions must stop, and I have all interactions with them blocked, but for some reason, their reactions cannot be blocked from view no matter what I try, and it's needless notification junk/noise if you're never going to do more than react and not contribute.3 points

They showed a teaser timelapse of the new studio, and it obviously doesn't show much, but don't be surprised if some general concepts carry over from Times Square. You get an idea of the size of the space in the first image. It's apparently the same size as The View's and Live's studios, but should feel even more open with no audience risers. In the second pic, you can make out wood-tone beams across the ceiling, a large, possibly L-shaped video wall to the left, and a curved desk against a video wall in the foreground. The desk looks like a stand-in for the final product, but it's thankfully a lot smaller than the outgoing model. In the back corner, you can make out some kind of non-video wall feature, though the short end wall (top right) is likely to be a giant screen. In addition to Charlie Gibson voicing a new team promo as the 50th anniversary festivities start to pick up, Diane Sawyer is likely to be in-studio on Monday, promoting a new sit-down interview she did with an actor.2 points

I'm split on this because as an objective journalist you can't rant personal political opinions on social media. This would be less consequential if it were an MSNBC or Fox commentator. That being said, it's tough not to rant. Trump is unique in that we've never seen a president and his administration blatantly lie, bully journalists, threaten democracy and form a cult of perosnality to this degree. How can journalists tow the line of calling this out while staying objective in reporting and minimizing personal biases? It's hard! Doing what Moran did however serves no one. Losing your job to rant against Trump, Miller, or anyone else in the administration on social media isn't worth it when there are thousands of opinion commentators who can do that for you. I think this warranted a conversation and a social media break not a firing however. It's a shame because Moran was very good. His political analysis always did tow the line of commentary however, so it's not surprising to see him take it a step further on social media.2 points

Four anchors, though realistically it’s seldom even three as it is, for one hour seems needless.2 points

SAM was good with their pre-2006 packages. It's not the packages themselves, it's just their flagrant overuse by certain groups like Nexstar. I swear if I hear Guardian one more time... Mostly it was the whole SESAC thing which caused many stations to drop them with the rise of licensing fees. In subsequent years, with the consolidation and group-branding of stations, sameness prevailed and a good SAM theme could get maligned by a station or group that ran with something, or even used a theme to the point or boring-ness....2 points

If you like the team, the presentation, etc, not hearing “live from Times Square” is not going to change your viewing habits one iota. No one who watches and likes the program is going to think, “wait, they’re not in Times Square? I’m out.” No one gives the show more credibility or likes the team content better because of being in one location or another. It made for an interesting backdrop at one point, but it’s not like they use it all that much, in any meaningful way.2 points

I feel like the Hudson Square move might hurt GMA in the long run Mainly due to the branding that they are live from Times Square for this long2 points

I'd imagine they could do concerts on their roof, not sure about that space accommodating an audience however.2 points

The technology is neat, but I don't really grasp how it improves upon forecast delivery as opposed to a nice physical set. Different cameras being used as the "window" in the rear of the set? Neat, but nothing that can't be done with a monitor or screen (and is already used on a fair number of sets as a backdrop). Weather conditions on the floor? Neat, as long as my location isn't obscured by someone standing on it. Also, even with the graphics, it still looks to me like the weather person is walking around a big empty warehouse.2 points

Just noticed that the writer was a former KYW sports staffer (see the bio at the bottom), so that probably explains why they're a little testy about the station now. I'd just use 'channel 3' myself, but it's Philly media and you know how they can get.2 points

I meant the Times Square building. Cause Times Square Studio is owned by Disney iirc.2 points

I expect we’ll see more of this. In the last few months WUSA added a 7am, 8am, 12:30pm, and a 6:30pm all on streaming.2 points

I think this will be the fad for the next decade. At least big desktop screens never caught on like the Fox News Deck.2 points

Surprised there hasn't been one made yet so here we go with its first post. The Daily News is reporting that WCAU is shaking up the morning show...again and going with three anchors spread out over the 3 hour show. Chris Cato joins the cast and solos from 4-4:30AM then Tracy Davidson joins him at 4:30 and they pair up from 4:30-5:30. Vai Sikahema then comes in for Cato and does the remaining 90 mins with Tracy. I wonder if there will be different feels to the show with the varying personnel. http://www.philly.com/philly/entertainment/celebrities/20140318_Chris_Cato_on_mornings_at_NBC10.html1 point

Yep. They're the same team for the most part when they were still Vivid Zero. Just under a different name after splitting from their parent company SmithGeiger.1 point

Not a big fan of that desk, but props to WPSD for providing renderings.1 point

Update WPSD has started broadcasting, as of this week, from their new location at The Paducah Sun building. However, their new set is not quite ready yet. Therefore, they're in a temporary setting in a corner of the new studio that'll debut after the 4th of July. https://www.wpsdlocal6.com/news/wpsd-temporary-set-to-be-upgraded-in-july/article_073d349a-b6f6-416e-a0cb-4b04181d6603.html1 point

The WGN Morning News team are full of professionals, right? Yes, but also no. At least Dan tried to be when it comes to sports... but failed miserably on Tuesday. So yesterday, he got "fired" from the segment and they found a replacement...1 point

Didn’t the prior set have surfboard wings on their desk as it was circular like CBS This Morning?1 point

The new one? The Disney Company. As for the Concerts, it probably wouldn't be bad to eliminate them, at least as a weekly thing. They used to be a big ratings grabber because they used to get big names and well-knowns every week. Now, it seems to be mostly up-and-comers and lesser-knowns. It was partly a way to keep viewers tuned in during the Summer and especially to pull them in on Fridays. It made the sponsor, the network, and the corporation (GE, Comcast, Disney) happy. It made them money, as did the artists and bands. While the shows are still profitable, they are not as profitable as they once were and certainly don't get the ratings they once did, even when they go with a well-known artist.1 point

I'm guessing with the close of the DC bureau, the Cox stations will likely have to lean on their respective networks and/or CNN for news in the nation's capital.1 point

One has to wonder about Whit Johnson and Eva Pilgrim. Are the weekend editions of GMA more notable jobs than GMA3? During Amy and TJ I’d say yes, in whatever it becomes the answer is likely no.1 point

To me it seems like they have settled on DeMarco and Rhiannon and it's just a matter of making it official. I don't think the possibility of him leaving in say 3-4 yrs. should disqualify him from getting the job permanently.1 point

This screams more 'a vacant white dude convinced the brass to get the promotion over him', or a bench with too much talent already (thus him being behind T.J.), rather than his talent being overlooked. I can't blame him; if a company doesn't respect his talent, he can go elsewhere, and that's something to respect.1 point

No, @mountainave was saying that they've had a steady, single team filling in for weeks, and NOT the revolving door that you stated you don't want, that they're already NOT doing.1 point

My only issue with Demarco is he doesn’t seem to stay anywhere long. Not good if you’re grooming someone to eventually take over the mothership GMA. And not only does he not stay long, he’s been at all three networks on some level. Doesn’t scream loyalty either.1 point

Because they want stability, and an 80-yr old isn’t gonna provide that. And a matter of correction, she works 4 days a week, as she has Mondays off.1 point

Yeah, too much going on, too many changes, particularly ones that don't make sense. Just give Vai and Tracy the entire 4-7am shift. As for the 11am, they should give it two anchors and stop rotating it! Either give it to Keith & Renee, or Vai & Tracy. Keep Chris on the weekends!!1 point

I believe NBC has some tricks up their sleeves and Tamron is apart of it. I think if she does become a permanent feature to the show, that would benefit NBC to become more competitive with GMA.1 point
-
1) they're trying to give off the image of being "personal and connecting with the community" 2) probably just trying to give her more exposure. People seem to like Tamron Hall and she does occasionally sub on Today.1 point

Lovely Robin Roberts came out the closet today. Also Amy and David will be filling in this week. Guessing the entire team save for Ginger is off.1 point

Anytime they want, really. They de-holidayed it for the overnight Mandela funeral, but redecorated by the time GMA kicked off at 7.1 point
