You'd be on the mark because they've already got a case study up... https://defiantla.com/work/scripps-news-group-rebrand/3 points

Apologies for hijacking this post, but @bennettmonk, please stop with your irritating reactions; there was nothing funny about this post. You make no comments here. I don't know how else to bring sunlight to this, but these inappropriate reactions must stop, and I have all interactions with them blocked, but for some reason, their reactions cannot be blocked from view no matter what I try, and it's needless notification junk/noise if you're never going to do more than react and not contribute.3 points

They showed a teaser timelapse of the new studio, and it obviously doesn't show much, but don't be surprised if some general concepts carry over from Times Square. You get an idea of the size of the space in the first image. It's apparently the same size as The View's and Live's studios, but should feel even more open with no audience risers. In the second pic, you can make out wood-tone beams across the ceiling, a large, possibly L-shaped video wall to the left, and a curved desk against a video wall in the foreground. The desk looks like a stand-in for the final product, but it's thankfully a lot smaller than the outgoing model. In the back corner, you can make out some kind of non-video wall feature, though the short end wall (top right) is likely to be a giant screen. In addition to Charlie Gibson voicing a new team promo as the 50th anniversary festivities start to pick up, Diane Sawyer is likely to be in-studio on Monday, promoting a new sit-down interview she did with an actor.2 points

I'm split on this because as an objective journalist you can't rant personal political opinions on social media. This would be less consequential if it were an MSNBC or Fox commentator. That being said, it's tough not to rant. Trump is unique in that we've never seen a president and his administration blatantly lie, bully journalists, threaten democracy and form a cult of perosnality to this degree. How can journalists tow the line of calling this out while staying objective in reporting and minimizing personal biases? It's hard! Doing what Moran did however serves no one. Losing your job to rant against Trump, Miller, or anyone else in the administration on social media isn't worth it when there are thousands of opinion commentators who can do that for you. I think this warranted a conversation and a social media break not a firing however. It's a shame because Moran was very good. His political analysis always did tow the line of commentary however, so it's not surprising to see him take it a step further on social media.2 points

Four anchors, though realistically it’s seldom even three as it is, for one hour seems needless.2 points

SAM was good with their pre-2006 packages. It's not the packages themselves, it's just their flagrant overuse by certain groups like Nexstar. I swear if I hear Guardian one more time... Mostly it was the whole SESAC thing which caused many stations to drop them with the rise of licensing fees. In subsequent years, with the consolidation and group-branding of stations, sameness prevailed and a good SAM theme could get maligned by a station or group that ran with something, or even used a theme to the point or boring-ness....2 points

If you like the team, the presentation, etc, not hearing “live from Times Square” is not going to change your viewing habits one iota. No one who watches and likes the program is going to think, “wait, they’re not in Times Square? I’m out.” No one gives the show more credibility or likes the team content better because of being in one location or another. It made for an interesting backdrop at one point, but it’s not like they use it all that much, in any meaningful way.2 points

I feel like the Hudson Square move might hurt GMA in the long run Mainly due to the branding that they are live from Times Square for this long2 points

I'd imagine they could do concerts on their roof, not sure about that space accommodating an audience however.2 points

The technology is neat, but I don't really grasp how it improves upon forecast delivery as opposed to a nice physical set. Different cameras being used as the "window" in the rear of the set? Neat, but nothing that can't be done with a monitor or screen (and is already used on a fair number of sets as a backdrop). Weather conditions on the floor? Neat, as long as my location isn't obscured by someone standing on it. Also, even with the graphics, it still looks to me like the weather person is walking around a big empty warehouse.2 points

Just noticed that the writer was a former KYW sports staffer (see the bio at the bottom), so that probably explains why they're a little testy about the station now. I'd just use 'channel 3' myself, but it's Philly media and you know how they can get.2 points

I meant the Times Square building. Cause Times Square Studio is owned by Disney iirc.2 points

I expect we’ll see more of this. In the last few months WUSA added a 7am, 8am, 12:30pm, and a 6:30pm all on streaming.2 points

I think this will be the fad for the next decade. At least big desktop screens never caught on like the Fox News Deck.2 points

As long as the journalists don’t have a non-compete or can be let out it, I’m sure one of the stations will soon.1 point

Yep. They're the same team for the most part when they were still Vivid Zero. Just under a different name after splitting from their parent company SmithGeiger.1 point

Could do like the morning program and have one person stand off to the side, but in this instance Karen standing would make the most sense.1 point

Changes coming to the morning newscasts. Tamala Edwards moving to 10 am After 20 years of the dawn patrol, and overnights on ABC before that, sleeping in will probably be a welcome change.1 point

Hear me out. KVVU no longer has one sports-related channel... now they have TWO. One is the Silver State Sports and Entertainment Network, but now they've recently launched 5DRVtv (5 Drive TV). Outside of Local News LIVE from 4-6 am, 11 am-12 pm, and 4-5 pm (7-9 am, 2-3 pm, and 7-8 pm ET; which seem to be the main newscast timeslots for that streaming network), the schedule is devoted to all things cars and motorsports with programs such as Moto America, Race Central TV, Music City Trucks, Detroit Muscle, PowerNation Builds, etc. Some of these programs are also seen on SSSEN, but that's more aimed towards general sports, whereas 5DRVtv (KVVU-DT 5.4 by the way, which replaced Dabl) is focused on cars and motorsports. This may be the first such local digital subchannel I've heard of. EDIT: Another thing... Despite Gray not having a Telemundo presence in Las Vegas (because you have O&O KBLR Channel 39), KVVU went ahead and launched Spanish-language news and weather content anyway with Vegas Hoy. https://www.vegashoy.tv/1 point

As was already said, it’s leased by Disney, not owned. A private investment group owns it. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/1500_Broadway https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tamares_Group1 point

The new one? The Disney Company. As for the Concerts, it probably wouldn't be bad to eliminate them, at least as a weekly thing. They used to be a big ratings grabber because they used to get big names and well-knowns every week. Now, it seems to be mostly up-and-comers and lesser-knowns. It was partly a way to keep viewers tuned in during the Summer and especially to pull them in on Fridays. It made the sponsor, the network, and the corporation (GE, Comcast, Disney) happy. It made them money, as did the artists and bands. While the shows are still profitable, they are not as profitable as they once were and certainly don't get the ratings they once did, even when they go with a well-known artist.1 point

I may not live in Oklahoma, but man losing a weather legend like Gary England sucks. My condolences are with his family and everyone at KWTV.1 point

The news broke during their 10pm newscast, so nothing was planned (but there will be tomorrow). This one hurts badly. The weather community will mourn greatly. He, Tom Skilling, and James Spann have changed the game forever, and Gary will be missed for generations to come.1 point

It's good to see a sign of life from Scripps, especially over the last two years. Has the industry declined so far that I'm actually excited to see this package? So many of the group packages introduced over the past few years are well past their prime already, and groups like Gray haven't even finished yet....1 point

More and more FOX O&Os are incorporating original programming onto their streaming channels, which can be seen via FOX Local. I know KMSP goes All Day from Noon to 5:00 p.m., and now, another great example from WITI Milwaukee. I already told you about their daily Wisconsin Weather Experts program that airs at Noon, right after the midday news at 11:00 a.m. Now, they have The Wisconsin LIVE Desk, which airs from 12:30-2:30 p.m. https://www.facebook.com/benhandelmantv/posts/pfbid08LiarWvmsVdsMfgKE75j3bMHdMrXEEc5cHXd8dJT14aGmsmYdB26BVM6BuMRVwzEl1 point

My apologies for not fully explaining myself. That said, I'm not sure what you could've got from my statement that's any more nefarious than another user suggesting that an 80YO might not provide stability...which is exactly what I meant. Let's face it, a person at such an age has a far greater likelihood of suddenly becoming "unavailable" to host the program than almost any other candidate being considered. If that makes any of us ageist for suggesting that, then so be it. As for calling it an uncited rumor, the poster that brought it up didn't include any article suggesting Behar's aspirations. It's not anyone else's job to go hunting for such a headline to back up someone else's post, which at first glance, sounds kind of crazy. The user should've linked to it. The notion of Joy, with zero legitimate news experience, whose political leanings have been on display for decades, moving to anchor a news program, is more than a little out there. If Gibson (almost 80) or Sawyer (77) announced they were returning to everyday GMA, I'd raise an eyebrow. If a politically-charged comedian (Oliver? Stewart? That type) announced their desire to get into straight news, I'd raise the other eyebrow. It's the combination of her age, paired with her lacking credentials, that makes this a bizarre idea that the network shouldn't even give a second thought to.1 point

I think GMA3 needs at least one team to remain in place temporarily before ABC decides to permanently name a new regular team. I would prefer that over a revolving door of fill-ins.1 point
-
My only issue with Demarco is he doesn’t seem to stay anywhere long. Not good if you’re grooming someone to eventually take over the mothership GMA. And not only does he not stay long, he’s been at all three networks on some level. Doesn’t scream loyalty either.1 point

What’s unfortunate about it for anyone but NBC? Michael’s promotion to GMA was a directive by Robin IIRC and an attempt to assemble a more dynamic cast after the departure of Sam and Josh and the failed experiments of Tony Reali and Jesse Palmer. At one point the lineup was Robin, George, Amy, Lara and Ginger which while each incredibly strong in their own regards is not a particularly dynamic ensemble. ABC has somehow made the Michael appointment work really well. He’s still by far the weakest of the ensemble but somehow it works. Robin and George have also become a classic duo. Amy was a perfect fit for the show as well and TJ made a lot of sense too. Losing those two and Cecilia is going to be a tall task to rebuild.1 point

Kim dropped the ball on 2 scandals. This one and Whoopi’s. In both cases, the talent was able to host their show the day after the mishap. In both cases, all should have been off their shows the following day. Technically Amy and TJ scandal was dying down until they “suspended” them. That caused the story to get even more ridiculous. Another point I would like to mention is…the focus was only on TJ from the beginning and not Amy. It was best that ABC got rid of them both because the optics and backlashed ABC would have gotten if they let TJ go and kept Amy would’ve have been worse. However, this is the perfect opportunity for CNN, hell even CBS to try and scoop them up.1 point

There are many directions the network could go with the GMA3 slot, with merely an official host change naturally being the most likely. Let's keep the speculation to a minimum. An uncited rumor about an 80-year-old comedian moving to that hour is not necessary to post. Legitimate publications only, please.1 point

4am-7am: Stick to one team. Stability is a big key in this town. Vai nor Chris cuts it for me in the morning though. Keith Jones was the masterful fit in the morning, but is making good on his promotion. I'd rather see Rosemary Connors and Tracy Davidson together. That one week where she filled in for Vai was very good. Also when she filled in for Denise Nakano & Chris Cato this weekend evening, by herself, she did wonderful. I think she, as with Natasha Brown at 3, is underutilized and wish they'd use her more, or she'd get away the same way Kristen Welker did. 11am: Renee & "Hurricane".1 point

Yeah, too much going on, too many changes, particularly ones that don't make sense. Just give Vai and Tracy the entire 4-7am shift. As for the 11am, they should give it two anchors and stop rotating it! Either give it to Keith & Renee, or Vai & Tracy. Keep Chris on the weekends!!1 point

According to TVNewser, it states that Tamron wants to be the co-host to the 3rd hour of Today in her contract renewal agreement.1 point

1) they're trying to give off the image of being "personal and connecting with the community" 2) probably just trying to give her more exposure. People seem to like Tamron Hall and she does occasionally sub on Today.1 point

Anytime they want, really. They de-holidayed it for the overnight Mandela funeral, but redecorated by the time GMA kicked off at 7.1 point
