  3. Apologies for hijacking this post, but @bennettmonk, please stop with your irritating reactions; there was nothing funny about this post. You make no comments here. I don't know how else to bring sunlight to this, but these inappropriate reactions must stop, and I have all interactions with them blocked, but for some reason, their reactions cannot be blocked from view no matter what I try, and it's needless notification junk/noise if you're never going to do more than react and not contribute.

  4. They showed a teaser timelapse of the new studio, and it obviously doesn't show much, but don't be surprised if some general concepts carry over from Times Square. You get an idea of the size of the space in the first image. It's apparently the same size as The View's and Live's studios, but should feel even more open with no audience risers. In the second pic, you can make out wood-tone beams across the ceiling, a large, possibly L-shaped video wall to the left, and a curved desk against a video wall in the foreground. The desk looks like a stand-in for the final product, but it's thankfully a lot smaller than the outgoing model. In the back corner, you can make out some kind of non-video wall feature, though the short end wall (top right) is likely to be a giant screen. In addition to Charlie Gibson voicing a new team promo as the 50th anniversary festivities start to pick up, Diane Sawyer is likely to be in-studio on Monday, promoting a new sit-down interview she did with an actor.

  5. I'm split on this because as an objective journalist you can't rant personal political opinions on social media. This would be less consequential if it were an MSNBC or Fox commentator. That being said, it's tough not to rant. Trump is unique in that we've never seen a president and his administration blatantly lie, bully journalists, threaten democracy and form a cult of perosnality to this degree. How can journalists tow the line of calling this out while staying objective in reporting and minimizing personal biases? It's hard! Doing what Moran did however serves no one. Losing your job to rant against Trump, Miller, or anyone else in the administration on social media isn't worth it when there are thousands of opinion commentators who can do that for you. I think this warranted a conversation and a social media break not a firing however. It's a shame because Moran was very good. His political analysis always did tow the line of commentary however, so it's not surprising to see him take it a step further on social media.

  6. Four anchors, though realistically it’s seldom even three as it is, for one hour seems needless.

  7. SAM was good with their pre-2006 packages. It's not the packages themselves, it's just their flagrant overuse by certain groups like Nexstar. I swear if I hear Guardian one more time... Mostly it was the whole SESAC thing which caused many stations to drop them with the rise of licensing fees. In subsequent years, with the consolidation and group-branding of stations, sameness prevailed and a good SAM theme could get maligned by a station or group that ran with something, or even used a theme to the point or boring-ness....

  8. If you like the team, the presentation, etc, not hearing “live from Times Square” is not going to change your viewing habits one iota. No one who watches and likes the program is going to think, “wait, they’re not in Times Square? I’m out.” No one gives the show more credibility or likes the team content better because of being in one location or another. It made for an interesting backdrop at one point, but it’s not like they use it all that much, in any meaningful way.

  9. I feel like the Hudson Square move might hurt GMA in the long run Mainly due to the branding that they are live from Times Square for this long

  10. I'd imagine they could do concerts on their roof, not sure about that space accommodating an audience however.

  11. The technology is neat, but I don't really grasp how it improves upon forecast delivery as opposed to a nice physical set. Different cameras being used as the "window" in the rear of the set? Neat, but nothing that can't be done with a monitor or screen (and is already used on a fair number of sets as a backdrop). Weather conditions on the floor? Neat, as long as my location isn't obscured by someone standing on it. Also, even with the graphics, it still looks to me like the weather person is walking around a big empty warehouse.

  12. Just noticed that the writer was a former KYW sports staffer (see the bio at the bottom), so that probably explains why they're a little testy about the station now. I'd just use 'channel 3' myself, but it's Philly media and you know how they can get.

  19. Update WPSD has started broadcasting, as of this week, from their new location at The Paducah Sun building. However, their new set is not quite ready yet. Therefore, they're in a temporary setting in a corner of the new studio that'll debut after the 4th of July. https://www.wpsdlocal6.com/news/wpsd-temporary-set-to-be-upgraded-in-july/article_073d349a-b6f6-416e-a0cb-4b04181d6603.html

  20. A behind the scenes look at the new VR stage. Pretty large so I guess they don’t have to “move” the scene around to make it look bigger. Looks like it has two Artimo and a jib.

  21. The WGN Morning News team are full of professionals, right? Yes, but also no. At least Dan tried to be when it comes to sports... but failed miserably on Tuesday. So yesterday, he got "fired" from the segment and they found a replacement...

  22. The best explanation I can give is that having a long pad on a video playing out of a server in automation is playing with fire. Let's say, hypothetically, there are 4 video playback outputs from the video server here. three normal for vos, sots, pkgs, etc, one keyable for show opens, animations, and other fancy production elements where the video comes in/out over the elements surrounding it. Have the keyable open with 3 seconds of audio pad on it, the playback file will end, and the automation will cue up the next element assigned to play out of that channel automatically. Have the keyable open with 30 seconds of trailing/fading audio pad on it, and there's another element set to play from the keyable channel within the first 30 seconds after the show open, most likely the automation will automatically eject the open animation while the trailing audio is still playing and will cue up the next element set to come out of that keyable channel in time for it to be clean - but it just isn't worth the risk in a situation where the automation director would have to verify the right element is cued up, or manually advance the playback channel to the next element during a busy top of a newscast.

  26. I wonder what the summer concert series looks like moving forward. Hudson Square isn’t close to Central Park, it would take forever to get between the two during that time of day.

  27. For anyone who remembers or is still interested in the work of TVbD (Television by Design), I can probably answer most questions. I was one of the original members that started the company after leaving WTBS. I've only just noticed your incoming links to the TVbD Vimeo page, so apologies for the late response. I'm recently retired and have been exploring the idea of producing a feature length documentary about the work of TVbD in particular, and/or the history of motion graphic design in general. I'd be curious to know what this community thinks of the idea, and if there might be potential collaborators here. Thanks for the mentions and the memories.

  30. Surprised there hasn't been one made yet so here we go with its first post. The Daily News is reporting that WCAU is shaking up the morning show...again and going with three anchors spread out over the 3 hour show. Chris Cato joins the cast and solos from 4-4:30AM then Tracy Davidson joins him at 4:30 and they pair up from 4:30-5:30. Vai Sikahema then comes in for Cato and does the remaining 90 mins with Tracy. I wonder if there will be different feels to the show with the varying personnel. http://www.philly.com/philly/entertainment/celebrities/20140318_Chris_Cato_on_mornings_at_NBC10.html

  32. Good afternoon, while this is not completely TV news related many in the Chicago news media business probably know who fire photographer Tim Olk is. He has been a fire photographer for over 30 years, you can view his work here https://olkee.smugmug.com/ . If you look through his photographs you will see many current and former Chicago TV news reporters in them. I can see members of the media being both envious and jealous of him, he sometimes gets closer to the action then they do. Also if you look through his Facebook book page two former TV reporters and one current one are on his list PM me for the details. He is currently battling prostate and balder cancer, as if this wasn't his wife lost her job and with it his insurance. It is uncertain as to how this will play out. His story in my opinion needs to be told, that is if he wants it to be told. Thanks

  33. One has to wonder about Whit Johnson and Eva Pilgrim. Are the weekend editions of GMA more notable jobs than GMA3? During Amy and TJ I’d say yes, in whatever it becomes the answer is likely no.

  34. To me it seems like they have settled on DeMarco and Rhiannon and it's just a matter of making it official. I don't think the possibility of him leaving in say 3-4 yrs. should disqualify him from getting the job permanently.

  35. … except that’s not what happened in any of his past employment situations at all. He was not passed on for promotions, and in most situations had positions most people work much longer to achieve.
    1 point
  36. This screams more 'a vacant white dude convinced the brass to get the promotion over him', or a bench with too much talent already (thus him being behind T.J.), rather than his talent being overlooked. I can't blame him; if a company doesn't respect his talent, he can go elsewhere, and that's something to respect.

  38. Its unfortunate in my opinion that GMA's excessively tabloid brand of "shocking breaking video" journalism remains at the top of the AM ratings, which means the show will stay the way it is for the forseeable future. Michael brings a good energy but he might be better suited as a sports/feature anchor than a main co-anchor. Part of that however would fall into Lara's role.

  44. She did replace Natalie last night at the golden globes. This could be because they wanted Natalie to host with Matt in NY which Tamron could have done.

  45. I believe NBC has some tricks up their sleeves and Tamron is apart of it. I think if she does become a permanent feature to the show, that would benefit NBC to become more competitive with GMA.

  46. The Today Show has launched a year long series "Shine a Light", each anchor chose a topic near and dear to them and will work all year long to "Shine a Light" on it and give back to communities. They revealed the anchor choices spread out over the course of this week. But, they also included Tamron Hall...Any indications what this could mean for the future?
