It really does and what’s the purpose of doing world/national news when that’s what is being aired on every other station at 6:30…especially if you’re trying to say you’re a “local station”?5 points
-
Agreed. It screams ABC WNT from "as we come on the air tonight", to the intro tease, to the date posted above the red headline graphic. This might be a stretch but Louie seemed to be deepening his voice to emulate David Muir. Even the background behind Louie (which I like) looked like Peter Jennings era WNT. I suppose they're hoping viewers find this similar enough to World News Tonight and don't bother to switch the channel. Perhaps World News Tonight LITE might be more distinct if it focused on issues relevant to the Latin American and Caribbean communities which dominate South Florida.4 points

Yes. Each team anchors for 1 hour then switches. It's actually nice, they can take almost a whole hour off for a nap4 points

No surprise... ABC Miami is getting the star treatment from GMA. Sam Champion is in Miami all week for the program and Victor Oquendo gives Craig and Belkys some national exposure. https://www.instagram.com/reel/DM7x41zvc0W/?igsh=d2NnY3R5cjFrMzFx3 points

I figured they'd opt for the alternating hours anchoring like they do on their evening shows. I've noticed this being the latest trend on marathon morning shows like WANF/WPCH, and WOFL. Swapping every hour instead of Team B 4:30-7, and Team A: 7-10/11am. It looks (so far) like they'll be doing an all headlines style newscast like Today In Florida, and not a soft morning show. It feels almost appropriate that WPLG's last ABC prime time will be ending with the 2003 Freaky Friday since them and 7.2 will be 'switching bodies' as it were, except it's permanent.3 points
-
Wasn't this the plan all along? CBS never once indicated that local news would debut on launch day.3 points

That looks like it was thrown together 5 minutes before the station went on air.2 points

I don't think it's a great idea to use the NY project as a guide for what will happen elsewhere. The circumstances are wildly different. ABC did not move to the new NY facility simply because some of the buildings were "old". A properly-maintained 100-year-old building will last for another 100 years.2 points

So basically people will have to switch from channel 10 to 18 on their TV service to get ABC programming. I’m sure a lot of viewers will be mad they can’t find Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy! anymore if WPLG isn’t carried. Other than that, I don’t think many will be upset or even notice ABC is from a different station.2 points

Yes it was! Hahaha. It became the last one on WPLG and the first one on WSVN.2/WDFL.2 points

They probably got tired of people asking where to watch ABC Early report from a viewer says Breezline moved WPLG to ch19 and put ION on ch10. Kind of a dickish move2 points

Having to air World News Now their last overnight as an affiliate is one thing, but having to also air Good Morning America First Look (which is basically an early morning show)? How'd that happen?2 points
-
Not necessarily. That's their last as an ABC affiliate. They're still gonna run ABC's overnight programming until Independence kicks off at 4:30 a.m.2 points

I mean Miami a pretty big market using Marza, Krauth, Ozebek and Oqeundo. Former Miami newsers to promote is a good idea. I don’t know what Miami market rank was in 1988, and 1995, but that was long time ago people were literally used to everything until now. So they have to pull out everybody to get viewers used to the change.2 points

The difference with WWJ was because they were literally the station of last resort in Detroit, after CBS tried and failed with every other station there. They at least had the nuclueus of WKBD to start from, even though Paramout (pre-CBS) shuttered the operation before their first merger. Still, the startup costs were much higher the first go-around given the technology required at the time. This time with CBS Atlanta, it's on a shaky new foundation under Skydance. CBS needs the cash and will take back their network affiliation in a heartbeat if they feel they are getting screwed. Watch for more dis-affiliations in the future and more cuts to the legacy CBS network....2 points

Fox decided to work in some of its NASCAR graphics for the (rain delayed) game at Bristol Motor Speedway, although they didn't go as far as to make a custom scoreboard too.2 points

Existing newsrooms struggle to hire talent and keep them away from public relations and corporate communications. I'm not sure why CBS thought they could pursue such an aggressive timeline.2 points

You'd think with ABC going this far promoting ABC Miami that it's like an O&O.2 points

He works for ABC through WABC, so I would consider this part of ABC's promotional campaign.2 points

CBS said the same thing back in 1994/1995, for WGPR now WWJ in Detroit. It took em almost 25 years to get an operation. My goodness WUPA probably looking at 2050 at this point.2 points

It was nice to have syndication not have all these lousy cop shows for a few years (this was syndicated as Police Patrol in 2019-20), but I'm not shocked the backsliding resulted in the return of the format (all the bad crime reenactment shows and "True Crime Daily" bombing didn't help at all).2 points

Appears the news operation won't be ready in time for launch day. A CBS spokesperson noted that the newsroom, set to launch in September, won’t be operational when WUPA assumes the CBS affiliation from WANF, but declined to share further details on its initial scale.2 points

At least WUAB should be on YTTV for the next month or so. Hopefully they don't go away when the CW walks. WANF is the other station to watch when CBS walks to WUPA.1 point

Im just starting to realize Miami number 2 with the most affiliation switches with 3 89’, 95’, 25’. Raleigh, North Carolina has had the most with 4 affiliation switches 85’, 95’, 98’, 16’. But I’m a couple of years I see this happening again in the 305. I wonder if Miami is coming to tie us. lol.1 point

I think that was the point, a CW/FOX style long continuous block of morning news. Agreed that ABC 18's schedule is not bad. I'm also surprised --and impressed -- that 18 opted to pay for syndicated programming in time-slots already covered by 7 News. Examples airing Extra at 10 and Tamron Hall at 4 when they could have just simulcasted 7 News.1 point

Spectrum did light up LLT yesterday, though you wouldn't know it's called LLT as there are no promos or bugs calling it such; it's basically the main Local News Live feed as a regular old 1080i cable channel. Commerical breaks are a DRTV/PSA/Gray promo black hole rather than local ads on the web/Zeam feeds. Hopefully they do a lot better to adjust the channel to being a cable channel in the next few weeks, because my first impression is that they need to adjust a bit as far as presentation.1 point

Assuming this is true, I don't believe it's the end of their news department - that is, if Bahakel allows it. The CW, as with networks in general these days, only add so much value to a station - which arguably is the actual priority access to certain streaming platforms. They are more than capable to continue operations without a network affiliation provided that Bahakel is on board with it. People can spin this how ever they want, but The CW is not the major player as a network they want people to believe them to be. And sometimes the cost-benefit analysis is just not favorable for continued affiliation. WCCB is the only truly "independent" station (affiliated or not) in Charlotte at this point. All the others are owned by corporate conglomerates. I wish WCCB the best as they navigate this next chapter.1 point
