  1. I've seen ratings, and there been times where NBC10 has trump them, so if they added a co-anchor the ratings would go south?

  2. So, after Rob working the 6pm and 10pm news and Patrick working the 4pm and 5pm news all last week, Dick Johnson returned to the weekend role this weekend. (I'm pretty sure Dick was off last week; don't remember seeing him at all) I wonder what role we'll see Dick in Monday-Wednesday this week. Anchor? Back to general assignment reporting?

  4. Per the Memphis Commercial Appeal, former WREG news anchor Richard Ransom has been hired as the new main anchor and managing editor at crosstown rival WATN. His first day on air is September 25th and replaces Brandon Artiles, who will continue to anchor the 9:00 news on sister station WLMT. http://www.commercialappeal.com/story/news/local/suburbs/2017/09/14/richard-ransom-returns-moving-local-24-anchor-desk/664084001/

  6. Mark Curtis with a mustache! If not for those two December '85 newscasts that already had We're Going Where You're Going as the close, this would have been so confusing... Speaking of We're the Team, here's another one from KSTP — and no, that's not a typo! And a few years earlier, KSTP had changed to ABC: Also, this is not a newscast, but it's just as much of a gem.

  8. So someone answer me this. Jim Gardner been the face of Action News for over four decades. If and when Gardner retires will the 6/11pm news have the traditional male/female anchor? Does Gardner like being a solo act vs having a female sitting next time him? Always wonder how the 6/11PM newscast hasn't been integrated with a co-anchor.

  9. Spectrum News Bay News 9 is here as the channel turned 20 yesterday. Spectrum News 13 is to follow shortly when that channel turns 20 next month.

  10. The guy who uploaded it worked there at the time. He probably kept that take for kicks, or for a gag reel. I think he added the ID at the end since he's got a couple other WNCT vids on his channel with the same.

  13. That has got to be one of the worst CG takes on Helvetica I've ever seen. Bad kerning, weird letter heights...the works. (And yet the weather summary is surprisingly sane.)

  16. We take you to Knoxville, TN in 1987 and a rare clip from WTVK. There is no open, however, but features a bumper. If only I can find some rare WTVK news from 1988, during their CBS days, it would be huge.

  17. NewStar was introduced by Hubbard Broadcasting for stations to promote their new SNG vehicles. In addition to Stanley's stations, I seem to recall the Hearst stations also signed up, as did H and C (KPRC, WTVF, WESH, KCCI) and others WJTV, WTVT, KWTV as well.....

  18. I think he was only off last week. Pretty sure he was on GDC/Midday news prior to that. Don't think they gave him a traditional send off/we'll miss you mention on Good Day (which is a bit of a surprise).

  20. There actually is some information on this theme. You are not far off, but it is not Non-Stop! There is a BMI entry for KSFY under Bestor. BTW, Pinnacle Music is mentioned in the Hartford Courant, so they composed WVIT 1998: "After Channel 30 came up with the concepts, the graphics were developed by EGAD (Electronic Graphics and Design) of Dallas and the music was composed by Pinnacle Music Group of Utah, said Chris Gallagher, creative services director."

  21. Speaking of Salt Lake City, who else thinks KSL 1998 has gotta be a custom Non-Stop theme? Considering they were based there, and KSL has been a longtime Non-Stop client... this sounds like a Non-Stop work

  28. I watched it, and it definitely seemed like they were going for an Oprah-esque vibe, I even called it White-Oprah. They also got rid of the news ticker/crawl for that hour, so they're going full on talk show. Yet it's still advertised as an NBC News program (the on screen logo alternates between the MKT and NBC News logos). If they wanted to turn the 9am hour into a full talk show, why not just put it syndication? I'll be recording every show onto DVD, just in case this becomes a notorious bomb, and NBC is forced to bring back Today's Take or give the 9am hour back to the local stations.

  29. It reminded me of a WCVB promo of 1985, also promoting their Newstar 5 mobile unit, and even with the same slogan "No story is beyond your reach".

  30. First day for Megyn Kelly Today felt awkward and disjointed. The cast of Will & Grace didn't seem that engaged with her, and they looked squished sitting together on that tiny sofa. I'll forgive her for nerves and first day jitters, but she needs to be look more comfortable and smooth on camera. Nice set, but I think her audience drowns her out. They certainly need to work on a lot of things if they want this show to work. I'm still surprised after all these years that no one has been able to match or duplicate Oprah's quality for an informational talk show, I had thought that perhaps Megan would be the person -- but for now it's a work in progress. A major downgrade to Today's Take.

  31. I understand the way they felt. I know she was afraid but everyone was. If we were required to work and she just didn't show up, that's not fair to the other people.

  32. I must say, Megyn Kelly Today doesn't feel like Today at all. It feels like an NBCU talk show passing itself off as a network morning show.

  33. There's also an image campaign to this. It's one of the larger packages we have little of. The Oklahoman's TV columnist was not totally fine with it, though, saying "It was pretty, but unfortunately longer than most hymns on Easter morning."

  38. Since we're already on a KSAZ kick...here's some Fox 10 News from 2005. This was the package that debuted Fusion News and only lasted a year or a year and a half until the O&O look was created. Features John Hook and Kari Lake, along with Yetta Gibson (now of KTVK/KPHO) and Marc Martinez (now the weeknight 10pm anchor).

  40. He's been having audio encoding issues and has had to reupload a few videos. There was a commercial missing its sound entirely. Seconded on the KPNX part. I really, really want that "Your Choice for Real Life, Real News in the 90s" open.

  43. While looking around on YouTube, here is a rare clip of "WM News" in the form of morning news briefs with former anchor Jill Valley. The theme was also used on WESH for its newscasts in the early to mid 1980s. A news open is seen at 0:14.

  44. Yes. This is what could properly be called KTSP's "The Vision" era (that was their station slogan) and was the final hurrah of the NewsCenter 10 name. (They also had an image campaign, similarly barely documented, to go with it. We know about eight words of the song thanks to a 1989 article on Shelly Jamison's firing: "Look to the vision, the vision of today".) "The Vision" (and the corresponding opens and new set) debuted in 1989, as the Valley's traditional news leader suddenly found that KTVK had zoomed ahead. There's a post in here comparing KTSP to KTVK at this time: The station updated its sunset 10 logo for the first time — this one used primarily in orange and shared with WTSP, which also took the "NewsCenter 10" branding from its Phoenix sister as it worked to put its computer hacking scandal in the rear-view mirror. KTSP's station voice in The Vision era was Al Vanik, who was based in Phoenix. It was his first TV voiceover work — channel 10 had hired him in 1987, but it wasn't until going to The Vision that he was on the news opens. He had previously done two years at KOY. The Vision was put to bed by March 1992, and so was NewsCenter 10 (and Nightcast). In its place, KTSP ditched orange for sky blue, made the 10 larger in its logo, commissioned a new music package from 615 originally called "Round the Clock News" (more famously known as Pinnacle), and began branding as Channel 10 News.
