  1. The show has become embarrassingly bad and they’re no longer even trying to fake that any aspect of the program is newsy. What I find so aggravating is that these shows are wondering how to stop the bleeding and return to the viewership of their old days. They’ve tried everything but returning to the appropriate mix of news, lifestyle and entertainment that made them what they were.

  2. I am rather sick of CBS playing games with the lineups. That said, 60 Minutes gaining Dickerson will be great to help with what has been an up and down lineup recently. If they do put O'Donnell in Glor's place, hopefully Glor could join them. As for the pop-news, I agree with you. GMA has gotten way too festivally for me and hard to watch. The adding of Strahan didn't help my opinion of that.

  3. Geez, could the interactions between King and O'Donnell on-air get more awkward than it already has been? I've personally felt like there has been subtle clashes happening for some time now between them two and between O'Donnell and Dickerson. With this now out, I'm thinking this could be popcorn viewing and will be entertaining to see what other subtle on-air jabs they will have for each other before the host changes happen, I'm thinking they'll have to act a little more fake between each other til then, it's going to be Ripa and Strahan 2016 all over again. I hope they don't go all pop-news in the future, that would be a major turn-off for me. The article seems to be on the same page as the Daily Mail article from a few weeks back that read that O'Donnell is difficult to work with and that the folks behind CBS Evening News rather work with Glor. I feel bad for Glor, nothing was really wrong with him, it's just the show should have gotten a more extensive retool if it were to compete with ABC and NBC. The show pretty much stayed on the same stream that the Pelly edition was on. Not sure if O'Donnell will draw people in at the helm. I guess this is a wait-and-see situation.

  4. If they move Norah to the evenings then she’ll simply be moved once again in another 2 years or less. If Katie acoustic, Scott Kelly and Jeff Glor weren’t the answers I don’t see how Norah presumed to be.

  5. If this comes to fruition, will the show change to a more Today like format with more pop culture segments and possibly live performances? It would be a-shame if they removed what makes the show unique and go back to trying to complete head on with Today and GMA.

  6. I miss how Today was up until Meredith left....CBS This Morning is almost the closest thing to that now, the more intelligent of the morning shows but it still pales in comparison to old Today Yes, Fox stations are excessive with local morning news from 4:30-10am, or even KTLA 4am-12pm....local news is becoming saturated, GMA and Today should stay but CBS given their history might have to keep their options open in the AM Scott Pelley is a decent journalist but he was a bit stiff/bland for the evening news....the broadcast hasn't been itself since Dan Rather cooked his own goose or even when Bob Schiffer left

  7. Only in 1984 could you provide instructions like "Between Levitz and Lawhon on Freeway" and everyone knew what freeway you'd be talking about...

  8. And local news from 4:30-7 is too much, adding on an additional 2 hours will be overwhelming. They already repeat stories as it is. And the FOX affiliates that go to 9 or 10 already rely on infotainment stories, it’s not like they’re providing additional news stories. And for those of you who keep talking about how great Pelley was, realize you were in the minority. He did nothing for the ratings.

  9. CBS This Morning isn't going anywhere, it brings in money for the network; regardless of the ratings.

  10. I'm sure then-KWCH GM Ron Bergamo, a University of Arizona graduate, wasn't happy with the result of this game. Ironically, he would end up in Phoenix two years later running KTSP. -- Here's a couple 1992 promos from then-newsless Fox affiliate KNXV-15 (whose call letter-based image campaign that season was produced by TVbD, IIRC): And some rare pre-Scripps KNXV (I've started at a promo for "The Greatest American Hero," which ended with graphics featuring their slogan at the time "Where The Stars Shine"). Then co-owned WCGV-24 in Milwaukee used the same slogan and similar graphics.

  11. I was at the doctor's with my dad this morning and I caught the last 10 minutes or so of GMA. Wow, not the way I remember it being.

  13. I absolutely loved Scott Pelley on CBS Evening News. I thought he was a good face of the news network. I think he had the right demeanor you had to have for a job like his. I mean, he's not Jennings/Brokaw/Rather/Trout, etc, but he is a damn good reporter and newsman. 60 Minutes fits him well and so did the CBSEN

  14. Page Six has been good with their CBS scoops lately so I think this is likely. My guess is that they have one source, though, and that source really doesn't like Norah for whatever reason. (Perhaps Norah IS bad. Perhaps the source is jealous of her success.) Also, how is Gayle pushing Norah out if CBS was already trying to get Norah to replace Jeff? This is a lot of changes, though. Kind of daring. But it's probably necessary. I do feel bad for Jeff... One day you're getting a big promotion and becoming the face of the network, the next you're being blamed for not being able to fix decades of struggles. But he was not the right pick. (I wish they'd bring Scott Pelley back... He might have been awkward but his writing was good and he had the trust.) I didn't think John Dickerson was good for mornings... Too bad he can't go back to Face The Nation.

  15. I dunno. Seems fine to me. WPVI had a rather classic promo some years back focusing on their microphones. This is kind of the same thing.

  16. Wow. Since Charlie Rose's November 2017 firing, this might be it's fourth anchor change-up CTM has had. And since it's 2012 debut, the fifth. Damn, this show can't hold on to a stable lineup without something throwing a wrench.

  17. That’s pretty cheap if they are distributing a show through the TVU network. They’d have to uplink it anyway for those out of the TEGNA station group. Then you have the signal quality and latency issues of transmitting a show over the public internet. I known they distribute news content (breaking news feeds or live shots of national news) for distribution where PQ isn’t needed. Edit: Here’s some info on how DBL uses TVU it’s a secondary feed, they use it for “satellite tours” for TEGNA stations before the show, and live hits during the show. https://www.thebroadcastbridge.com/content/entry/12538/tegnas-daily-blast-live-finds-new-path-for-multi-station-live-contribution

  18. Walker Brown, whose video collection focuses on Oklahoma City content, has made a great find. This is a 35-minute-long commercial block from KAUT, during its first tenure as a commercial station, roughly a year-and-a-half after it became the market's original Fox affiliate. Featured are some promos and station IDs using a graphics package by John Christopher Burns and a movie wraparound segment featuring OKC horror legend Count Gregore (played by John Ferguson). Please note, I've tried to place embed code to insert the embed player for this post with no success as TVNT's layout appears to not support standard embed encoding.

  19. How about this for some nostalgia in Houston. KTXH (UPN 20) broadcasting a Houston Aeros (then an IHL team) in their second season. from when they were Paramount 20 Or about how when ESPN2 during the NHL lockout was carrying the IHL

  20. GMA does this too, but they get creative with it with Select Cities, Weather trivia, and other stuff while ads are playing.

  22. Hearing Ernie Anderson talk about the WWF back in the late 80s early 90s. This was the bid video for the LA Coliseum to get Wrestlemania. Of course due to lagging ticket sales, they moved it to the LA Memorial Sports Arena

  23. YES to all this. The REAL CityTV station, NOT the vapid run of the mill standardized TV 'network'. Every city affiliate should have its own Breakfast TV, CityLine, Speakers Corner, hell this show (updated of course) along with their own CityNews. Make it Local. That's future NOW. Also, rock on technotronic! I remember that joint.

  25. This game telecast from 1986 is notable for two reasons: -it is the final game Wichita State played in football (the program was disbanded within a month) -it was also the final regular season game in ASU's Rose Bowl season Wichita State football at the time was telecast by KBS (KWCH). As a bonus... -There's a promo at 1:37:00... -and at 2:55:35 is a promo leading into the KWCH sign-off. This must have been a repeat.

  26. I loved the previous look as well; the simplicity and use of black and yellow was what sold me on the concept. I don't like the clunkiness of the logo graphic, but I do like the color. I'm never used to change either; unless I'm told about it; that's when I'm preparing for it. I understand if this came after the Super Bowl if CBS was broadcasting it, but not in this case.
