  1. I don’t know that I agree with this. Maybe you’re not from New York? But that’s a day that literally happened in our own backyard. It was a day that almost everyone.. if not everyone.. was affected and likely knew someone that died. Do I think the reading of the names will continue forever? No. But as long as it does I do feel the local NY stations will carry it. It’s not like it used to be before the 10 year where there was coverage from early morning to late night with replays of the day of the event, but I don’t think it’ll just stop cold on the main channels.

  2. I don’t see this happening with the NYC stations. There are still so many profound and noticeable impacts of 9/11 all throughout the city some 22 years ago. We’re a long ways off from it becoming a non-event at least in this region. Also consider that the POTUS, VP, state senators, various other dignitaries attend the events. That alone is going to warrant dedicated coverage.

  6. Gray’s KOSA in Midland/Odessa has been using this First Alert News branding for a bit now. They are the. No. 1 station so not really clear why they felt it necessary to rebrand. It’s super clunky and cheesy. Leave it for weather, not for news.

  7. I could maybe see it for a weather segment (yeah I know, CBS O/O's and Gray), but not the name of a whole newscast.

  8. New set debuted for NBC's EPL coverage this weekend. Pretty sure that's the last of the original NBCSN studios to be replaced.

  9. NBC has used the "curtain raiser" before; in the '50s it used a camera and the words "NBC Television Presents." By the early '60s that was changed to the NBC "snake" logo and "NBC Presents." As for the "Eyewitness"/"Action" branding, yes, some stations could use a name change: WSB has had "Action News" since I was in college in the '70s. Its sister stations in Charlotte and Orlando have had "Eyewitness News" since I was in high school. But I can imagine the fuss, especially in Atlanta, if the names were changed; it would be comparable to WXIA's attempt to drop "11 Alive." And besides, can you imagine (if you live in New York, Los Angeles, or Chicago) not having "ABC7 Eyewitness News"? op .='[

  10. Haley Meier made her studio debut tonight, solo-hosting the extended coverage of Hilary from 11pm ET onward. (Jane Minar solo-hosted the entire block from 2pm-11pm ET, mostly pre-recorded it seemed, but she kept returning occasionally for live updates, particularly near the times that new advisories were released. Seems like Haley's shift will be structured the same way.)

  11. But where else are guests gonna plug in their latest 'non-union tubi holiday movie' like 'A corgi for christmas' then? /slightly sarc.

  12. America's Weather Center is fully live today because Hurricane Hilary is expected to make a rare impact to the southwestern US. The past two days, a little bit of role reversal has taken place, as Jane has been the host, and Kendall has been the sidekick. She's also generally been the sidekick on Fox Weather Now most days since Brigit's departure. Seems like they're trying to move Kendall into Brigit's old slot while still keeping her involved with America's Weather Center as well.

  13. Glad to see Matthew Keys out of prison… again… Several station groups have GMs who also serve as regional VPs. I don’t know that this means they are getting rid of that position altogether. Edit: He just updated his bullshit story. Scripps denied the rumors of the layoffs.

  14. Well, prime time used to start at 7:30 before it was moved to 8 by the FCC over concerns that the Big 3 had too much power. They later got the 7 pm hour back on Sundays, but by the time the law was repealed for good, syndication companies had been making a mint on that real estate for two decades, and have kept the networks from taking that time back (outside of the few OTA networks that program more or less 24/7 like Ion). TL;DR, it's kinda prime time, but only officially on Sundays, because that's the only day of the week the networks program that hour.

  15. Well isn't 7pm (6pm C/M) is called "Primetime Access"? I don't see that much difference.

  16. Not to be pedantic, but 11pm (after SportsCentral) or 7pm (before the news block) could be considered “prime time”.

  17. Like what happened in 1988, it's likely that as far as sitcoms/dramas (what few are left), they'll wait to launch those until the strikes are settled; also expect Kelly to launch late, and Tamron and Sherrie to focus on different topics so we're not getting into 'cast members from non-union Tubi movies' territory as far as guests.

  18. Also, that means three out of four of the existing indies (KTXA, WBFS, WSBK and WLNY) will be airing it in primetime as well. Not KCAL, for obvious reasons.

  20. KSNW in Wichita is moving and expanding its "Good Day Kansas" from its current 12:30-1 p.m. to 11 a.m. to noon, effective Sept. 4. KSN already bumps the third hour of today and Hoda & Jenna an hour to run Kelly & Mark at 9, so I wonder what's going to be missing. Competition KAKE and KWCH already have news/local talk at 9.

  21. It's fair to say that the big winners on Saturdays come next year - local fanbases notwithstanding - will be the ABC affiliates in the South (WSB, WFTV, KTRK, WGNO) and the CBS affiliates in the Midwest (WBBM, WBNS, KCCI, KDKA) and West Coast (KCBS, KFMB, KIRO, KOIN). Fox will also get great ratings in Big 12 markets (KSAZ, KRIV, KDVR, WXIX, WDAF) assuming they are the biggest antenna broadcaster (i.e. not ESPN) in that conference, and B1G Saturday Night will be a boon to NBC affiliates in the Midwest (WMAQ, WTHR, WDIV, KARE, WCMH). If you're an ABC affiliate in the Rust Belt (WLS, WXYZ, WSYX, KETV) or a CBS affiliate in the old Confederate States of America (WANF, WIAT, WWL, WCSC, WKYT), you better have a Plan B ready for 2024. And even if CBS were to eventually get a robust piece of the Big 12 pie, KHOU may or may not get the kind of ratings for a UH game that KTRK will definitely get for a UT or A&M game, since UH may still have issues filling TDECU Stadium as opposed to DKR or Kyle Field. As for the first night of NBC B1G action, I won't be shocked if the biggest winner for NBC's first Saturday night of B1G action is WPXI, since WVU and Penn State are literally in the orbit of western PA. But it really does come down to market by market. If Wisconsin is on Saturday night for instance, WTMJ will probably get good ratings. And when UCLA and USC join, most certainly KNBC and KNSD. And that's not even counting Notre Dame games involving the B1G which certainly will get big national ratings, and most certainly explosive ones for WNDU and possibly WMAQ & even WTHR. But if one were to find a major downgrade anywhere - even in this era of max cable penetration and streaming - it would be in Bryan/College Station. The SEC will be going from full-power KBTX to low-power KRHD. Not that it matters since whichever outlet is airing the Aggies - broadcast or cable - will win Saturday anyway, regardless of whatever game ABC does air on its SEC package.

  22. Appears 8pm/7pm newscasts are what's coming to the indies. In addition to the KPIX two-hour primetime news block, WCBS is adding an 8pm to WLNY, KTVT is adding a 7pm to KTXA, and KOVR is debuting an 8pm on KMAX called "Primetime Sacramento".

  23. Looking at WKBD on Sep 1 having news specials wonder if that is filler until syndication begin if there going put a newscast at 8PM to 11PM in Detroit in Sep?

  24. True but I wouldn't cover the whole ceremony, maybe cut it in for every ceremonial bell. But I think the reading of the names is insane and lost of ad revenue.

  25. Normally yeah it ends at noon, but I wouldn't be surprised if they don't do coverage. We're in the streaming days it doesn't have to be broadcast anymore they read the names every year and they've done that since the 1st anniversary, I wouldn't be surprised if they decide ehh we need the revenue, stream it online. It's like if we had TV during Pearl Harbor the Hawaii stations would do coverage for every anniversary for 20 years but then the next generation comes that won't even care unless they learn it in school and most of the families by now who lost loves one's in Pearl Harbor will themselves be old or dying and their descendants won't even care too much because they weren't alive and it was a long time ago. But again every 9/11 anniversary is almost the same why do they need to do coverage every year? It's been 21 years almost 22, I can understand a milestone anniversary like the 20th or the 25th but the next generation will learn it in school or online and descendants of 9/11 victims are not going to have a severe emotional connection it's been long ago that children who lost there fathers now have kids of there own and those kids unless there parents always bring up there grandparents are not gonna care. And kids who dont have relatives who were unalived on 9/11 they're not gonna pay attention and listen to every name of every person that died. The World Trade Center, Washington’s Pentagon, and Shanksville Somerset County, PA killed 2,977 people, that's 2,977 names the future generation isn't gonna want to listen to those names for 3 hours straight.

  27. First look at CNN's new severe weather bar. I'm guessing the same shape will be used for election results but it seems incredibly large for the little bit of information it's being used for right now. I'm also not a fan of the way things don't line up nicely in all situations.

  28. The Patreon story doesn't really have much in the way of details, but there is this: "Longtime employees at KYW say morale and abuse at the station are at its worst in decades."
