The thing is: who actually notices? For all the complaints about common elements, how many viewers are actually going to be in two markets with common designs, and happen to watch the stations in question, and happen to pay that kind of attention, and actually care? Effectively no one. Nobody cares if WABC and KABC, for instance, have common design elements. A few people like us on message boards aren’t representative of the public at large.4 points

I just hope under this change, the O&O stations continue to keep their individuality and local news branding instead of making them all look alike. There is a charm to that indivualistic aspect of a news station versus them all looking alike and sounding the same.3 points

Trying to justify the purchase of what was an HD-era experimental channel otherwise bound for HC2 irrelevancy. The entire WHDT purchase made no sense from the start at all; sure, you get an overflow station, but what else can you do with that station outside guaranteeing full coverage for your subnets? The CW isn't moving, you've got WFLX and Fox already via sidecar, and the Ion flagship is just as sidecarred. I wouldn't be surprised if the purchase came with a Mar-a-Lago membership a la WLNY.2 points

I was nervous when she said "now some personal news," I thought she was leaving NBC News entirely. Glad to here she is commiting to the successful 'noon'-ish newscast. Her announcement:1 point

What part of "offer no specifics" makes you think I'm buying the spin at face value? I was just sharing what came up in a Google search. Personally, I doubt NN is turning a "good" profit. As for your other statement, I doubt you'll ever be in any position to make decisions on staffing anywhere.1 point

Any market that has to deal with a significant amount of severe weather/tornadoes/hurricanes, I can see at most 6. Have 2 in-studio, and instead of using reporters/mmjs, use the other 4 out in the field for reports, so they can give first-hand meteorological reports of damages, etc and fill-ins... I don't know why stations all of a sudden had a need to have a different meteorologist for each damn newscast of the day... No wonder they are starting mets at $15k a year.. there's no work1 point

That KOMO is being portrayed as "defying" Sinclair by burying those must-runs at the least accessible time slot possible... that's only giving their GM and news director the biggest bull's-eye possible back at Hunt Valley. They'll both get forced out for corporate lackeys in a few months, and KOMO will be ordered to air Osama bin Epshteyn and Mark Hernian at prime slots.1 point

And the transfer of pharmaceutical licensees and approvals are NOT complicated and full of delays? But I get your point. I think the delays will only help Sinclair...kinda like the way delays worked for the Rocket Boy of the North. Reminder: I'm against the Sinclair deal... not because of politics...but because I believe in LOCAL ownership. I support free speech for all...not just a few.1 point

Loss of (expensive) talent that identify with the viewer can risk being a big turnoff. After all, Sinclair's favorite colors are pink and green. WJW and WGN-TV risk being wounded irreparably by THAT... moreso than by being forced to run Osama bin Epshteyn ordering the arrests of people protesting the Trump Regime... or Sheryl Atkinson's poor impersonation of a non-discredited journalist. (And to clarify, both WJW and WGN-TV will be losing a lot of veteran talent, even in the imperceptible chance the Sinclair deal implodes.)1 point

If enough ND's or GM's refused to air the "must" runs, the company would probably just give up. They couldn't fire everybody and it would send a message to corporate that it was a bad idea (and GM's getting together to complain about something until it goes away is a thing that HAS happened in the past.) But these people work for Sinclair. They're probably more concerned with finding a new job and not burning bridges than they are about fighting running Boris' Rant.1 point

You assume that people in this country are only conservative Republicans or liberal Democrats. What about people who are neither? Are they capable of watching Oliver even though they're not liberal Democrats?1 point

First of all. I've never seen a worst teleprompter reader in my life. No wonder this man never became Press Secretary. I hear that Sean Spicer is available to replace Boris and he'd be welcomed to. Terrorism is nonsense. Terrorism is an emotion. It's like having a news desk for Happiness. But when have you seen profit made in the aftermath of happiness? This is fear-mongering to get people to misplace their judgement and get an advantage. Truly these are attacks and it wouldn't sound as good if they noted every mass shooting that has happened versus perpetrated by certain minorities.1 point

But not before Sinclair changes their name to Reichs-Rundfunk-Gesellschaft first.1 point

I highly doubt that Sinclair will pick up either Hannity or O'Reilly. These guys have egos the size of Jupiter and will demand a salary to match that ego. There is no way Sinclair's penny pinching bosses will shell out that kind of money for these two. They'll just turn WGN America into a rerun heavy channel with programming acquired on the cheap.1 point
-
OANN can't afford any of those guys. OANN can't even pay for 2ply toilet paper. Sinclair wants this deal in the bag, but you also have to ask how much are they willing to spend on the continuation of a specific agenda? Would it be worth it to them in the long run? We all see how stuff can flip and backfire in a second.1 point

The intricacies of local TV station ownership are too much for a lot of people on both sides. I had to explain to someone that WLOS was not owned by ABC and its newscasters didn't work for ABC.1 point

If he was, that would be the first time a Sinclair newscast would be watchable. On a serious note, that was a really good article and really shows how they're just money hungry people who will say whatever crap they believe will help make them more money. That said, I'm sure we're going to see another letter from Scott Livingston complaining about how persecuted he feels.1 point

I wouldn't be surprised if K45CX-D becomes KSTU-LD. All they have to do is place it on either a sub channel of KJZZ or KUTV, gut KSTU's news department like a fish, and presto! "Fox Utah"!1 point

New M&A. Back on April 20, Deerfield Media has bought K45CX-D in Park City, UT for $1.75M. The sale was greenlighted June 22. Even though they didn't form a JSA with Sinclair (they could've bought the station outright because the station is an LP), the Salt Lake Tribune said that they've made a partnership with Sinclair-owned KJZZ to air some of Park City TV's programming on KJZZ's signal.1 point

It's a guy who's a prominent social activist campaigning for police reform - thus, he's a mortal enemy among Republicans. And he grew up in Baltimore... not that far from Hunt Valley. Analogous to this would be if there was a story about opioid addiction and abuse in Cape Girardeau, MO, and a TV station tweets about it with an unflattering picture of Rush Limbaugh (a well-known Oxycotin addict and a Cape Girardeau native). You and I know that if that happened, Rush and every single Republican would condemn the TV station as part of this non-existant "left-wing conspiracy" and frame it as libel.1 point

Great! Now the automation is racist ! Twice in the same show!!! Oh Pray tell! Heavens to mergatroid.. It's Trumps fault...JUST say it! No people...This is what happens when you have children working in a "profession" that requires "adult" supervision. This could have easily happened anywhere. But you guys can blame the boogie man and Trump and those pet hamsters of Barons that were in that meeting with the sexy russian layyyer...boris and pals...hitler...ftvlive.1 point

As long as they aren't actively pre-empting network programming (if something goes against their "views"), that's the only way a network could cry foul. Now if they try the same stunt they pulled with Nightline back in 2004, then that may cause a problem. Given the growth of retrans and network reverse compensation since then, the obligation to carry network content is heightened even more.1 point
-
In truth, they are more insidious than an openly biased propaganda machine like Fox and Breitbart are. And crying "bias" at first seems to fit in with the long-standing "hurr durr the lamestream media is bad for you hurr durr blah blah blah" bellyaching common among most on the right. This time, though, it's a direct and blatant shot against all network news operations. Want to air anything critical of any elected Republican? Watch as your network feeds get cut by "accident" and we can get away with it.1 point

The reason it's off is because they're trying to peddle the same BS the White House has been spewing about "Fake News" and trying to paint themselves as "The Truth". They've used the same exact talking points over and over again anytime someone accuses Sinclair of coverage that's favorable to the current White House administration. It's no secret that Sinclair is very supportive of who is currently in the White House right now, which is why I find it so hysterical when they get so defensive when people call them out on it.1 point

Sinclair slapped with a $ 9.5 Million fine for illegally negotiating retransmission consent for stations they didn't "own or control'. I'm not a Sinclair hater, but that makes 2 fines for illegal operations/negotiations, how many more of these will they rack up before they become RKO and are forced out of the television business.1 point

Looks like they bought the real estate only. They also probably will write the equipment/ furnishings off as obsolete. Unless someone with standing marches into Federal Court and challenges with a notice to show cause... it will most likely just fade away. The "Broadcasting Bubble" WILL burst in the near future. Which mega group will cry "too big to fail". Keep watching ClearChannel /IHM.1 point

But they can't simulcast Fox NFL games on their stations. It works with ESPN and NFLN because they're on cable. Fox doesn't show games on FS1. If your regional team is playing it's already on the air on local TV in your market.1 point
