1. Not sure of the specifics but meteorologist Chelsea Ingram has left WJZ. https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=721461924692205&id=138477126324024
2. I understand that social medias a big deal now a days. But how does a large following Tampa turn into high ratings in San Francisco.
3. Wow I wasn't expecting that. That being said she never seemed to take vacation days so it's well deserved. I wonder if they are going to go the route of single headed for a while like WBAL did after they let Marianne Banister go (still miss her) before handing it to Donna. I imagine it will likely go to Mary Bubala as she's been with the station a long time and reports for the late news. I don't see them hiring an unknown to do the flagship (would the 11 be considered it?) newscast as they brand themselves personality wise. I remember when Sally Thorner left WJZ to retire and do the occasional corporate video, voice overs and travel my mom jokes why is it that she retires once the kids graduate college or head off? Her reasoning was that you work all these crazy hours but the minute they head off you quit. Wouldn't you want to travel as a family before the kids start their own lives?
4. I'm guessing Matt doesn't want to do that anymore - he's approaching 60 and traveling the world in a week is a bit much. Whereas Al's travels are largely domestic and not that much distance/off the beaten path. Also, is Indra Peterson now a permanent member of the NBC family? Her twitter bio says "@NBCNews meteorologist on @todayshow". Since Dylan has been back she's stuck to the weekday show. Maybe they're easing her back or now that's her beat with Indra on weekends. I would say it would be nice is MSNBC had a meteorologist on after 9 or 10 AM.
5. Atleast they're trying. How will they handle those annoying must runs from corporate? I do find the comments about the national media are off. I think the big three do a good job objectively.
6. Aww thanks Eat - you have to be my favorite shark that posts on the internet. About the second part - it's clean as long as they don't count prescription medications (that I take on occasion related to all the back surgeries).
7. Sinclair is launching a Project Baltimore Investigative Unit based out of their Hunt Valley headquarters dedicated to investigation the Baltimore City Public School System and the Baltimore County Public Schools. There will be seven journalists dedicated to this unit which will investigate budgets, facilities, test scores, teacher pay, school violence, athletics, unions and other components of running a school district.
8. Reading his Wikipedia page (that definitely wasn't written by him) makes me feel like a failure: he's a TV Host, fashion designer, journalist and entrepreneur.
9. I don't have the website handy (on my phone now) but check out the profile of who posted the video. Their website states that NBC made it and sent it to affiliates.
10.
11. Sinclair is canning their American Sports Network. Their remaining contractual obligations will be picked up by Campus Insider. https://www.ftvlive.com/sqsp-test/2017/3/10/more-sacked-at-sinclair
12. That's the bare minimum that NBC requires (or atleast appears in every contract I've read). Additionally there needs to be a newscast leading into Nightly and The Tonight Show.
13. One scenario was her passing after choking on a fish bone. And this gem from TVForum:
14. Completely normal - it's done for politicians, celebrities, royals and world leaders. They are also updated regularly. It is expected that they have things for this especially for someone of her age.
15. I don't care for the graphics update. I do like how they are focusing on cities other than New York in the open.
16. Okay, I just saw a video of it. I was watching their 10PM news and it came from the control room backdrop which confused me.
17. The control room and wall with NBC News Chicago banner.
18. Does WMAQ have a separate newsroom shot or is it a shared with the one the network uses?
19. I'm sorry but when you go up to someone you don't know to harass them. put your arm around their shoulder and order them to do something - you loose the right to act shocked when they push them off you. I think some would have let it slide but the fact he was wearing a mask in my mind makes it more serious. Wearing a mask shows that it was planned and could have been ready for more.
20. It happened back in 2013. There were four attackers two 15 and two 16. Edit: It's probably completely unrelated and just a random drunk on the street. But it still need to be taken seriously. This is a reason why I think constant social media is crazy — especially if the reporter or photojournalist identifies where they currently are and are going live. The live truck, camera and lights already bring out the local crazies but social media brings it to the world. I feel the same way when a reporter or anyone in particular posts a picture of them on vacation and how long they're gone. It's an invitation to be robbed. I'm still upset that this happened and hope the suspects are caught. But sadly I think it may not be a high priority.
21. Looks like the photojournalist initially broke it up but CeFaan went back after him and someone else tried to stop him. Wonder if the other man was just trying to help breakup a fight or with the masked Guy? Shame his mic was lost and we can't here it clearly - looks like the photojournalist grabbed it trying to stop the reporter.
22. A poster on DCRTV's Mailbag has posted a link to RabbitEars where they have a running list of stations and groups situation with the spectrum auction and repack. Here's a link to a google doc listing the public television stations and their results.
23. Surprised none of the Baltimore stations carry it but they stream it online.
24. Okay, so it sounds like the ticker is a separate device and likely a general CG unit at the station opposed to the one box solution at NBC and CBS.
25. Does ABC have a standardized affiliate ticker design for GMA and ATM like CBS and NBC? WMAR currently just uses the national news ticker. If it's not standard what designs do affiliates use? Additionally is the bug where the show logo, time and temp inserted locally (as opposed to just the time/temp)? I ask because sometimes the bug doesn't appear immediately and doesn't appear to be lined up with the rest of the graphics? Or is it just a design to add depth - which doesn't make sense as their graphics are flat.
