Time to rethink the standing anchor thing

Today Darlene joked that joked that she was six feet tall and said she was on the wrong box.

They have boxes for the anchors to stand on and switched to smaller one for next time they were standing.

I think standing cheapens the look. They really need a new desk and rethink this whole standing thing especially for this being the #1 market. Other O&O's have much better desks.

This Lucite desk is not the normal desk WNBC has used.

This one was brought in as part of the station's response to Covidd-19.

We're all very aware of that.

Because it's an obvious downgrade from the set's original set. This new one worked just fine for pandemic shows, allowing for more standup shots and distance, but if distancing is not needed, then the previous, seated position is superior.

With Cuomo pretty much ending all restrictions it’ll be interesting to see if stations finally go back to normal seating and such

Actually the use of stand up shots and using the back screen for graphics is.a positive change and probably will continue.  If you notice Lester stands most of NN now too just down the hall.  Will they eventually change the desk, probably.  Should they add more large video screens, definitely.

Similar to my issues with NN, I don’t understand the point in having a desk on set to stand the entire broadcast? Go all-in and make your show a standing active program rather than having a desk that serves zero purpose.

Natalie needs to try using one so she's not a foot shorter than her male co-anchors, especially Adam.

Seems like they've been doing all the afternoon/evening newscasts with solo anchors for the past week or so. This has been said so many times but...just assign a fifth evening anchor.

They have reporters they could bring in to co-anchor if they felt it was necessary to have two people. Jen Maxfield did at least one 4pm broadcast this past week according to her IG. They have not been using a replacement co-anchor on TINY recently, either. Maybe still limiting due to Covid-19? They do bring in Emily West to sub for Lauren on traffic during her frequent days off, so obviously not a concern there. But it's more important to have someone doing traffic than it is to have a second anchor.

Thats crazy that they’ve had 1 anchor doing TINY solo some mornings. Are the purse strings that tight at 30 Rock??

And I thought it was odd that they had someone on solo for the hour broadcasts. Would it cost them extra money to have a reporter fill in?

People are on vacation or took a long weekend.  It happens.  They are allowed.  Viewers probably are more focused on a familiar anchor than a replacement.   That's whose opinion counts - the viewer.

Excellent pick up for WNBC.. So this would officially make 3 full time assignment reporters for TINY.

I believe this is Katherine Creag’s replacement.  Others have been filling in, mostly Gaby Acevedo.

You just might be correct.

I’ve noticed that Chuck hasn’t been on a 6 for at least the past week and it isn’t mentioned that he’s off for the night. Is he taking the summer off or is something else going on?

Posted

He has been on all this week.  With his years of service and current contract he gets a load of vacation days and only works 4 days a week.

Natalie anchoring solo at 12am. Figured they wouldn’t be doing solo anchor shifts during the Olympics.
