I think she went to visit and introduce herself to (relatively) new colleagues, and there's a sort of natural "clique" (not meaning that in a "Mean Girls" high-school way, to be sure) among people working in the same role for the same employer in sort-of nearby markets. They have a shared scientific interest, and New York has its appeal to many as a place to visit. I enjoy frequent visits, but wouldn't pursue job openings there.

im still standing firm in my prediction and am willing to bet money on it. In 5 years she heads up I-95 and ends up in New York. I can’t see her going home to Chicago. Philly typically is breeding ground for journalists and meteorologists heading to NY i.e. Shirleen Alicot, Joe Torres, etc. even though those journalists were from NY originally still. I just think she’ll end up there, yeah it hard to get into NY TV Market it’s hard, but I think she’s got it.

The vast majority of Philly folks do not move to New York. A couple of people who made that move among the countless more who did not does not make Philadelphia a breeding ground. 
 

And moreover, some people do want to “go

home.” You somehow know how Payton will feel in the future, based on what, a few travel posts on Instagram? Seriously?

You’re right it may just be all in my head. Sometimes I have a hard time differentiating what’s in my head and what’s not. Btw she didn’t grow up in Chicago she grew up in Indiana. She was just born there.

She grew up in the Chicago suburbs, which includes Northwest Indiana.

I know I read about her. Maybe she will return to Chicago someday but I get it. She might be the only genz me ever of action news depending how young she is I suspect she ain’t that far older than me. But I don’t know why I’m in this Philly subsection I usually ignore the Philly and Chicago sections of this forum because of there close proximity to NY and LA respectively.

This is a TV news forum, not a drama & gossip about news people forum. Action News recently debuted updated openings for the winter season. I noticed something missing, though: shots of Chopper 6 flying around. I wonder why it wasn’t included in the openings.

makes sense, as there is no Chopper 6 anymore since the crash in 2023

I'm pretty sure they now lease a new Chopper 6.  I've seen footage from it.  Just recently, this morning.

Absolutely true. They reference it as such on most newscasts. They waited a respectful time and then worked it back in. Whether or not they happened to use copter clips in a given show open, there’s really nothing to read into it other than being a creative decision by the editors.

Could be a chopper pool if they share. Is there a pool in Philly? Wplg references a SKY10 during the news but there isn't one any more. 7 Skyforce in the AM traffic reports is actually MetroTraffic's helicopter, and Sunbeam are paying more to get live hits with Steven Gray instead of just video

It is a new copter. (New meaning leased after the tragic crash; not “new” as in off the assembly line.) They’ve included the new chopper in recent newscast openings, even if it may have not been included in the current batch. They send their own reporters up in it. The pool approach was a temporary, stopgap measure in the wake of the crash.

7 Skyforce is a Helicopters, Inc.-owned Bell 407 single-turboshaft copter tagged N21CL.

 

They probably do use MetroTraffic in the morning since the last flight logs for N21CL showcase they mainly fly mid-morning (10am hour), midday (12pm hour) or anytime in the afternoon.

 

They fly out of Hollywood's small North Perry Airport.

Apparently John Bolaris and Adam Joseph have been sparring on X, this weekend being  round 2. Looks like Cecily tried to play peacemaker on round 1. Got to be honest, lost a lot of respect for John Bolaris over the years, but Adam has been coming off as a pompous @$$ lately on social media, so I am kind of glad somebody put him in his place.

John was annoyed that Adam posted he had to work a 1/2 day on Saturday. John said he did it all the time. I believe in 2001, Channel 10 only had John, Hurricane and Henley so staffing was thin. Channel 6 has 5 meteorologist now, I believe. Maybe Adam thought he wasn’t needed but these are all hands on deck situations.

 

I’ll give credit, Cecily and Adam are clapping back on social media lately with these fake forecasters scaring the crap out of everyone. The winter has sucked and all the meteorologists are the first to be blamed. However, Adam hasn’t been as friendly appearing as he used to be on 6. Probably needs a good vacation. 

John basically told Adam, you’re paid well and on TV, grow up. Kind of ironic, though.

So I saw that post on Facebook, of him at the basketball game with his laptop open to models.  I took it to mean he was doing it "for fun" not necessarily working.  But, I also don't think it's unreasonable to expect one of the station's main meteorologists to be at the station working on a forecast the day before a Nor'easter, and if he had already commited to the game, the station was gracious to let him "work from home" on the forecast.  People need to lighten up!

The way 6ABC has been letting senior staff go lately (McCormick, Apody, Boyington, etc), I wouldn’t bite the hand that feeds you on social media if you have to work on a serious weather weekend.

Jess was barely senior at the station, she was there only a few years in the grand scheme of things. Jamie Apody’s situation just screams there’s more to the story than being released for cost, which is normally a straight-out vanishing, not being mentioned for months in the sign-off.

 

As for Adam/Bolaris, s—-w Bolaris. What Adam posted was hardly a big deal or biting anyone’s hand. John can sit all the way down and worry about his own business.

That seemed self evident for a while even if it wasn’t “official.” She vanished and while she wasn’t a daily fixture, it became noticeable that only Jason and Ducis were still around.

Crossing Broad followed up the original story about Galati leaving by mentioning Facebook posts from viewers asking WPVI to bring back Jamie Apody.   Not really sure that's going to happen.
