FJ2000 5 Posted March 9, 2023 Posted March 9, 2023 Over the past few months, I noticed KYW-TV phasing out "Eyewitness News" in favor of "CBS News Philadelphia". It was very gradual, but now it seems like the Eyewitness News name is completely gone after nearly 60 years. The news opens I saw last week said "This is CBS News Philadelphia". As recently as last month, the news desk still said "Eyewitness News". 1 2

Geoffrey 872 Posted April 1, 2023 Posted April 1, 2023 KYW broke into basketball coverage with the weather alerts. (Screenshot from the web. Guessing the normal CBS 3 bug is being used on TV.) 1
cg41386 132 Posted April 5, 2023 Posted April 5, 2023 They were really struggling with the audio on the split screen. They had both the audio from the game and the weather coverage going at the same time for a while.
PhillyWatch 240 Posted April 12, 2023 Posted April 12, 2023 It's a wrap on the Eyewitness News era today as the full "CBS News Philadelphia" brand and (green!) graphics have launched today 6

Some have suggested elsewhere it is a reworking of the pre-KYW 3 from 1963-65 (thank you logopedia for the image). Maybe? I think - keeping with Eagles green theme - it looks the goal posts fell over - or a 2 prong plug.
bmasters1 408 Posted April 24, 2023 Posted April 24, 2023 Something I'd like to know-- do you think the new titling of the news on the CBS O&Os reminds you somewhat of when Sunday Morning used to have that panel of places around the world where CBS News has had bureaus (which said "CBS News Rome," "CBS News Nairobi" and "CBS News Johannesburg", among others) above a TV monitor at which Charles Kuralt sat when he was speaking to another CBS News correspondent-- to wit, this? 1
SF1964 65 Posted July 17, 2023 Posted July 17, 2023 (edited) I don't know if this has been mentioned elsewhere, but it looks like the Sat & Sun 10PM CBS/CW news is no longer on. It's been replaced with SEAL Team & Magnum, PI reruns. Edited July 17, 2023 by SF1964 1
PhillyWatch 240 Posted July 17, 2023 Posted July 17, 2023 I had read that the weekend editions of the "News NOW" centralized newscasts had been discontinued but was surprised to see that KYW didn't revert to a local half-hour and instead dropped news altogether. The belief is that once the CBS stations drop The CW, they'll be adding more newscasts, so I'm optimistic that come Fall weekend news will be back. I always preferred their half-hour option at 10. 1
TVNewsLover 785 Posted July 22, 2023 Posted July 22, 2023 Anyone know what’s going on at 3?: https://www.ftvlive.com/sqsp-test/2023/7/20/going-from-bad-to-worse-in-philly 1
cg41386 132 Posted July 23, 2023 Posted July 23, 2023 The Patreon story doesn't really have much in the way of details, but there is this: "Longtime employees at KYW say morale and abuse at the station are at its worst in decades." 1 2 3
SF1964 65 Posted August 21, 2023 Posted August 21, 2023 Sports Director Don Bell is co-anchoring on the early morning news today. Alicia Roberts anchored Sports Sunday night.
jb542 13 Posted August 23, 2023 Posted August 23, 2023 Looks like CBS3 will launch their 8pm newscast on Ch57 starting September 5 1

News anchors work normal, 8-ish hour shifts, like most people, but that doesn't mean 8 hours on-air. 2 1
SF1964 65 Posted August 24, 2023 Posted August 24, 2023 (edited) I like Natasha. I just find it odd that her "on-air" day seems like it's stretched out. The station has sports anchors filling in for news anchors and regular news reporters doing sports. Having some anchors sitting in chairs at the desk, others standing awkwardly. The other stations in the city have many anchors/reporters that can do both well and can fill in on any newscast and don't have to use the same 5-6 anchors every day. Edited August 24, 2023 by SF1964

Surprised they didn’t give the morning team the 9am, and the 4pm team the 12noon. That would’ve made more sense. 1

I don't know if KYW goes into the 7 o'clock hour, but adding in some solo anchor somewhere in the day might help with expansion.

E. R. 70 Posted May 26, 2024 Posted May 26, 2024 I’m guessing it’s not just branding concerns that caused the end of Eyewitness News. 1 1
Action Newsroom 1299 Posted May 27, 2024 Posted May 27, 2024 Unless it happened sooner, I tuned in to KYW just now to find they have finally followed KPIX/KPYX's lead in utilizing augmented reality graphics in their NEXT Weather reports.

Pretty sure they started that back when they debuted their current set.
