What does New Disney/ABC president need to do to help ABC overtake CBS?

Go back to the way it was back in the 1970s, when ABC was the number one network

Bring back Monday Night Football

Create jiggle TV like Charlie's Angels

Shows with Glitz like with Hart to Hart, Dynasty, Hotel, etc

Sitcoms in the way of Welcome Back Kotter, Happy Days, Mork and Mindy

Remember what made ABC fun to watch

What does New Disney/ABC Television Group President Ben Sherwood need to do to position ABC o overtake CBS as America's Most Watched Network? Thoughts?

Restructure ABC Studios to turn out better shows... that's really it. Their news division and O&O's are strong.

yeah it really is their strength is their news division (ABC News), and their O&Os I think he needs to revamp ABC Studios, and if he can try to rebuild ESPN on ABC, but when he takes over, he will share the role of chairman at Disney Media Networks with ESPN president John Skipper I'm not sure how well that's going to go, Skipper may try to let Sherwood attempt to rebuild their Sports Division, but I'm not confident that he'll let Sherwood rebuild their sports division, maybe if, and when he takes Bob Iger's role of Chairman and CEO at Disney. My guess is that Iger is trying to set Mr. Sherwood up to succeed him when he retires.

Sports. CBS wasn't always the big dog network until they got the NFL.

Overall as stated by others, ABC got a whole lot of strengths than weaknesses. O&O and News are on point. Only need to do some reshuffling of studios shows but with entertainment as seen with "Scandal" They can put STILL together some killer shows.

The major thing is Sports for me because this ESPN on ABC isn't working as well as they want it to and Seperation might be need here. The "ABC Sports" Name and Brand is still iconic and has some MAJOR value there. They need to bring that back, but I don't see that happening at all. It would be good if they did, but it's not happening.

I agree I think that's something Mr. Sherwood will tackle next once he fixes ABC Studios, and get that studio shows shuffled I think he will negotiate with John Skipper to separate ESPN on ABC from ESPN, and bring back ABC Sports, but yeah separation if both ESPN and ABC is the need, I think the only thing ESPN should be producing is the NBA games on abc and maybe co-produce College Football Games with ABC, but that's it, I think ABC Sports will be brought back, probably by the end of this decade (somewhere between 2016, and 2019).

put more sports on, but they won't do that since E$PN is a bigger moneymaker

As long as Disney still owns ABC, ABC Sports is never coming back. The reason it got gutted was so that all the programming can be shifted to ESPN and therefore ask for higher fees from the TV providers.

First of all, I'm not sure this thread belongs on this particular board, as it's not related to local TV news. I'm just saying...

Create jiggle TV like Charlie's Angels

I was about to ask what the heck "jiggle TV" is, but then I googled it.

No. Just... no.

We have MTV for that.

that's why we got MTV for a reason.

Yeah. So did "CW close in 2016?" thread.

They should consider bring back ABC Kids after they end Litton's contact IMO (If Disney keep ABC). They have strong source from Disney didn't they?

Speaking of reasons is there a reason this thread is here and not in speculation land?

because Disney has already made the announcement about a month ago, that Ben Sherwood, would succeed Anne Sweeney so that's why it's under General TV, rather than Speculation 9000

There issue is to get some better primetime shows. ABC is in 4th place in primetime, so that their biggest problem. However the rumors are flying out there that ABC O&O wants to sell their stations.

CBS shows are not popular on social media trending circles, but are popular with Nielsen. However any CBS affiliate should be happy, because that the hottest broadcast network right now.

very true, especially with KWTV, I'm sure Griffin doesn't want to drop CBS, maybe some weaker CBS stations (such as WGCL/Atlanta, and others) may want to drop CBS, and CBS would like to go to a higher ranked TV stations.

Also not happening. The Disney Channel and its offshoots are big moneymakers for them and they're not going to put anything that anyone actually wants to watch on ABC's Saturday mornings block. If not for the E/I law, all of the networks would have just turned that time over to the affiliates years ago. (The CW's Vortexx block isn't all E/I filler, but I suspect the only reason it exists is because they need the money; it's programmed by Saban Brands, not the network itself)
