I believe that's Bari Weiss.

Just info here. 1991-2006 CBS Evening News theme is the longest-running CBS Evening News theme, lasting for 14 years, 9 months, and 25 days (November 11, 1991 to September 5, 2006) and most remembered CBS News theme at the time (it was also used by CBS Morning News during similar timeframe). It is the theme that associated with the majority of Dan Rather era as the anchor of the newscast (although 1987-1991 theme also associated with Rather's era, their usage were much short-lived than 1991 one). So, if anyone watching Dan Rather's tenure as the anchor of the program during 1991 to 2005, anyone will remember this theme. It is composed by Patterson, Walz and Fox Music Productions. Although it contains the signature melody of the 1987 theme by Trivers/Myers, all the other music is original.

Random nerd fact...The "Rather theme" (1991-2006) lasted as long as Katie Curtis's tenure on Today. It was Couric's evening news that replaced the theme. IIRC, according to her book, staffers thought her getting a composer for a new theme was too much.

Fun Fact: In the first six years of Dan Rather's tenure as the anchor of CBS Evening News (1981 to 1987), CBS News adhered to a policy, imposed by then-CBS President Frank Stanton, that prohibited the use of music. To distinguish itself and demonstrate that it used original footage, CBS chose to forgo music entirely.

and even without the music that intro was still cool. I wouldn't mind that as a cold open before they get to the headline montage, like what Today does now.

It's nice that all three evening newscasts have their classic themes again, especially since ABC News brought back the (updated) 70s theme. Now if only ABC News could bring back their special report theme from the early 2000s.

FULL BROADCAST (cleaned up West Coast version)

Montage (with mistakes)

It's not the 1996 Rather desk, but it has to be another desk from that same era – looks like maybe the Up to the Minute desk? Either way, that desk is for sure a hand-me-down and not new.

The shape, to me, looks like a near-perfect match, even if the paneling isn't. I'm wondering if maybe that is the 1996 desk but the paneling was updated somewhere along the line to match the lighter wood tones in the Couric/Pelley-era Studio 47.

Posting after myself to share a picture an acquaintance of mine found of this desk in use at one of the 2000 political conventions.

Photo from their social media posts... I had a feeling they might spin the desk around.

Also, the logo on that desk is the old CBS News logo. I wonder if it's new or if it's from an earlier era. Almost looks temporary to me. I'm interested to see if they use any of the screens on the set on the other side of the cameras (they use this space for some streaming shows, right?).

May be an image of television, newsroom and text

I know there are much, much, much more important things to be concerned about with this broadcast, but is that wrapping paper or some sort of tape stuck to Tony's laptop?

Today, is the beginning of "Live from America" tour. It was supposed to begin yesterday but due to Venezuela's breaking news, it was postponed to this day. It begins from January 6 to 16.Live_from_America_Tour_update.thumb.jpeg.b3d68525522b46f93977593bec50e332.jpeg

The anchor of the CBS Evening News actually said "Marco Rubio, we salute you!" at the end of the broadcast tonight.

The "story" was an "Only In America" puff piece on the fact that Rubio has many titles in the Trump administration and made it seem like The Entire Internet is celebrating him with AI pics.

Seems like something The Onion might have imagined CBS News pulling these days.

Ridiculous.

Yeah this desk is from BDI. It mimics the 96 Rather desk. It’s smaller.  We had the same desk at my former station. BDI did the 96 set and the Couric set. I think this desk was used for Up to the Minute.

The desk, the theme, the set, the graphics…not a bit of that matters. The network has gone full-on North Korea mode with slobbering over the administration.

I'd be loving the new CBS Evening News look if I was in a total vacuum and knew nothing about what Skydance and Bari Weiss have done to the place.

They had a good thing with Scott Pelley.  Too bad it was the old boys' club that messed that up.  It's been a dumpster fire ever since.

And that was before the latest chapter with Bari Weiss and Tony Dokoupil.

The stunts he's pulled in the last few days are almost as up there as the shenanigans that got Megyn Kelly bounced from the Today Show.

Someone check on the graves of Edward R. Murrow, William Paley and Walter Cronkite, because they are likely spinning at a furious pace right now.

(Douglas Edwards as well, but he was cremated)

No graphic changes to CBS Weekend News, which has retained the same design as the DuBois-Dickerson era, at least for now.

So inconsistent. Why not keep the new/old newsroom look that they launched this week for the Tony D. era.

I'm not so sure. It all looks so inconsistent and not very well thought-out. Bringing back Didot for only half the logo, and then picking a third font for the lower thirds all looks really sloppy. The open's use of pictures of Tony feels really tacky and self-serving – has any network evening news open ever done that? I love the 1991 theme, but it doesn't match the open or the tone that the overall program is taking. It feels like a really arbitrary choice.

The only thing I do like is returning to a newsroom backdrop, and the Studio 47 newsroom has never looked better. It looks much brighter and busier than its most recent incarnation when used on the weekend program. But even the sleek newsroom look is all ruined with the dinky 90s desk taken out of storage.

Walter Cronkite, an elitist member of the Bohemian Grove masquerading as a journalist while paling around with the wealthy and powerful superelites, the voice of the Bohemian Grove owl rituals on his own volition. Bastion of honesty that one really😄

Eeh IMO Scott is a solid journalist but he was a little bit stiff as host of the CBS evening news. He fits better on 60 Minutes.

These old graphics look better. The new themes and set are upgrades though.

The Guardian reviews Tony's first week.

At the very least, Tony could not have gotten a more active news-week to launch his broadcast.

In all fairness, all three network evening newscasts are shells of their former selves. David Muir's program is certainly not the best, it's just the most popular of a shaky bunch. Nightly News feels like a lesser copy of Muir and CBS is an unstable revolving door hopelessly trying to find its rhythm.

If CBS was insistent on revamping the format, I wish they would've just kept Maurice as a solo anchor.

Clearly it wasn't just the format Bari wanted to revamp -- it was the entire editorial tone of the news organization.
