Go home Scripps.....you're drunk.

Those Detroit & Cincinnati numbers prove that Scripps has fallen off the wagon....even in their HOME MARKET!

Oh how the mighty have fallen. Perhaps people are watching Wheel and Jeopardy.....oh wait....

The sad thing is that WXYZ's product is a lot better than it was.. But the damage is already done I think.. They need a rebrand and new graphics (which we know won't happen). Scripps is a disaster...

Ironically the 7pm newscast opposite Wheel and Jeopardy is always their highest rated of the day...

Part of it is how mismanaged Scripps is but the real problem is the ABC network as a whole. It says something about the state of the network when WABC, WFAA and WSOC are no longer the rating kings of their respective markets and have been leap-frogged by the CBS affiliate in each of these markets.

WSOC's declines are their own fault. It became noticeable last July. Their emphasis on hard, local and breaking news lessened, with more national and feel good stories, features like Clark Howard and chatter between the anchors. That was followed by a departure of several key anchors/reporters like Blair Miller, Natalie Pasquarella, Eric Philips, Stephanie Coueignoux, Kathryn Burcham, Trish Williford, among others. Some of the newer talent and their reporting has not been as strong as in the past. The network has little to do with it. There have been fluctuations in ABC's numbers before, but WSOC had always remained on top.

As much as WBTV would like to claim responsibility for their strong performance, I think the recent declines at WSOC and WCNC probably have a lot more to do with it than anyone at WBTV thinks. WBTV has always been a balanced station. They have hard news and "happy talk". When the others decline, they can be seen as an alternative on both ends of the spectrum. I seriously doubt that social media has played a role in WBTV's rise. Their Facebook page has the smallest number of likes of the big 3.

I emailed WSOC's news director last July when the decline was first noticeable, and she said that she knew her research and audience well, and thanked me for my "perspective". I'm glad that others have my same "perspective".

WBAL is running promos that their the most watched news in February. The fine print in the bottom says its from the local people meters from live and same day viewership in the A25-54 from 1/1/15 -3/2/16. This is probably the only data we will get from Baltimore.

Some numbers from Milwaukee via the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel...

WITI-TV (Channel 6) and WISN-TV (Channel 12) led the ratings race among local evening newscasts in February, with the former on top at 9 and 10 p.m. weekdays and the latter No. 1 at 5 and 6 p.m.

According to Nielsen data supplied by television stations for the February sweeps from Feb. 4 through Wednesday, WITI had a 6.8 rating from 10 to 10:30 p.m., followed by WTMJ-TV (Channel 4) with 5.4, WISN with 5.3 andWDJT-TV (Channel 58) with 4.5.

A ratings point represents 8,822 households.

During February sweeps — one of four ratings periods stations use to set ad rates — WISN led at 5 and 6 p.m., with a 6.8 rating at 5 and 5.6 at 6 p.m.

WTMJ came in second at 5 p.m. with a 4.8 rating, followed by WITI with 3.8 and WDJT with 2.6. At 6 p.m., WITI came in second with a 4.8 rating, while WTMJ had 4.3. (WDJT carries "Jeopardy!" at 6 p.m.)

The third-highest-rated local newscast was WITI's at 9 p.m., with a 6.3 rating.

WISN and WITI's newscasts led in the same time slots a year ago. The biggest year-to-year difference was WTMJ's rebound at 10 p.m.; last February, its newscast came in fourth in the time period.

I wouldn't necessary out the blame on ABC as a whole. Its the stations itself. They all had internal problems and now it's starting to show on their newscasts. It just that when you're number 1 in your market for a long time, you tend to get lax. This happens all the time. Its actually good because it shows you that you're not invincible. Remember the same happened to Today. The show quality was not as good and they made a few mistakes. GMA was rejuvenated with the addition of Josh and Lara and people liked their chemistry. This isn't the end either. WSB is kinda in jeopardy of this with WAGA and I wouldn't be surprise that in a few years WPVI will be in the same position with WCAU. Its going to happen, its just a matter of time.

Cox is running out of gas it seems.

They're taking a hit when they have to move people from WSOC to the disaster that is WFXT in Boston. Their latest attempts at station ownership are disasters (Jacksonville and Boston)

I wish we could have a civil discussion about how AWFUL WFXT is under Cox. Even by looking at their graphics package on NewscastStudio, it's a MESS....literally a mishmash of fonts and all of their other station packages in one station....and that logo..... (ok....end rant here)

They've had a good run, but it seems they don't have an act waiting in the wings. Sooner or later, it's going to affect their other stations once their competition surpasses their game.

And WKRC is the epitome of a station catering to their audience (despite their ownership) and it shows in their dominance in the ratings. Now let's hope Sinclair doesn't mess that up as they've done in many other places (WJLA is a prime example). Their rise is going to be in the declines of others and by running off the fumes of whatever they've acquired. I still think they are incapable of creating success at their stations....and it's getting harder for other groups to do the same as they sell out and slash their budgets....

Proof of the drunkeness???

Look at the "Advertise with us" link at the KGTV site.

http://www.10news.com/about/advertise-with-us

No mention about advertising on TV....just on the search engines and other Scripps websites.

There is a giant population of "boomers and gen-x 'ers" out there that out number the millennials 2-1...

Pissing away about 200 million people is not smart thinking.

According to McGuff's blog, KPRC topped KTRK in the 10pm news ratings in A25-54 in February.

This is a pretty amazing turnaround considering not more than a decade ago, the station was mired in 3rd.

At 10:00pm Monday-Friday, viewers made KPRC Channel 2 News with Dominique Sachse, Bill Balleza, Frank Billingsley and Randy McIlvoy #1 with nearly a 40% ratings advantage over the next closest competitor, KTRK Channel 13:

KPRC 2.5

KTRK 1.8

KHOU 1.5

Not to mention that it makes CBS' touting of being "the most watched network" of the recent years more meaningful than it's ever been (as if the Nielsen ratings since 2007 weren't enough to prove it).

I've never seen a station that has news on during the 1:00pm or 3:00pm hours, let alone both.

The Los Angeles DMA is very unique. The news machine never sleeps. You can find a newscast on one of the stations on weekdays at nearly every hour of the day. They start at 4am and go straight thru to 2pm. Then the afternoon newscasts start up again at 3pm all the way thru 11:35pm
