WKBW finally getting a new set

Wonder if it will be an actual set or if Scripps is going to "invest" in another greenscreen special...

The last thing I want to see is Scripps doing a "hold my beer..." especially when the past set pre-Scripps was embarrassingly cheap (at least Scripps tried to make it look semi-decent later on).

Like they did with KMTV and WGBA?

While we're on that subject, how big is WKBW's studio anyway?

Don't forget WFTX and KIVI.

Seriously. If you're not a major market station your likelihood of Scripps getting you a virtual set is at like 89%. It's a little higher if you're a former Journal station.

That doesn't bode well for KGUN then.

Given KB's past history with technical glitches pre-Scripps, I'm not sure a green screen set is a good idea. Plus their master control is still run out of Atlanta, no?

As for the studio space, I always had the impression that the previous set totally underutilized it.

WGBA was (is) far from the pinnacle of technical aptitude as well. From what I've heard Scripps pulled together their best people to get the virtual set installed and then told them not to touch it, which is usually why things stop working.

I'm going to miss the old set, but I liked it when Scripps bought 7.

Is this a picture of the old set or new one. If its the old one then technically they could've just get a refresh. A new design, duratrans, and swap out some of those faux stones would've suffice.

That is the old set. It got a refresh in 2014 when Scripps took over and scrapped the ghastly yellow-tinted skyline (and the main anchor desk, IIRC).

The original set was designed in 2001 by Park Place wkbw_5.jpg

Updated in 2003

And finally 2014 when Scripps bought them...

Considering the competition [WGRZ (Tegna) & WIVB (Nexstar)] both have considerably better sets, let's hope Scripps doesn't drop the ball on this one. WKBW has come a long way since Scripps has bought them, but a cheap set would be the death of them at this point. Right now WGRZ's set looks light years ahead of WKBW
