atlnews2 596 Posted April 13, 2017 Posted April 13, 2017 WFLD is getting a new set next month, they showed a quick shot of it last night https://static1.squarespace.com/static/5048e660e4b0bd178ab35a57/t/58ef3ac144024303dd056035/1492073159095/?format=1000w
MidwestTV 1246 Posted April 13, 2017 Posted April 13, 2017 According to FTVLive it was an accidental punch up and employees were told to not take any pictures. Looks pretty nice. That video wall bares some resemblance to WABC.
MorningNews 1500 Posted April 13, 2017 Posted April 13, 2017 I really hate the whole top secret bull that stations are doing right now. What's the big deal with keeping a local freaking news station's studio upgrade a secret? KTRK in Houston wouldn't even comment on their new studio when viewers questioned it. Geez
Jess 1116 Posted April 13, 2017 Posted April 13, 2017 That set is really, really nice. I don't know why Fox didn't make that one standard, if only to spare Philadelphia viewers that horrid blue monstrosity WTXF uses...
24994J 5630 Posted April 13, 2017 Posted April 13, 2017 I'm reserving full judgement til I see the desk, but so far, it looks quite nice. Hopefully they don't make it look cheap on-air.

What's the big deal with keeping a local freaking news station's studio upgrade a secret? KTRK in Houston wouldn't even comment on their new studio when viewers questioned it. Geez I think the easy answer is that they like to make a production out of everything once the set is revealed and don't want anything/anyone taking away from that. I agree it makes no sense to not acknowledge a set is being built, but what can you do. I'm reserving full judgement til I see the desk, but so far, it looks quite nice. Hopefully they don't make it look cheap on-air. I too will reserve full judgement until I see everything, but I don't like the clear logo on the wall (it looks cheap). Accident or not, at least it appears they could be either hours or a day or two away from a reveal.

Jase 1068 Posted April 14, 2017 Posted April 14, 2017 Next month? Originally was said to be finished in late March. I guess they're a little behind. Little over two weeks behind schedule. From the picture, it looks like everything is in place, so (ideally) it shouldn't be much longer.
Chicago News Boy 34 Posted April 14, 2017 Posted April 14, 2017 It's a little too retro looking for me. Like a 90's Windy City Live set. Sure the background is nice but it just looks chinsy to me compared to the last.
rkolsen 1686 Posted April 14, 2017 Posted April 14, 2017 Also remember this may not be how it looks on air. It may not be fully lit.
Chicago News Boy 34 Posted April 14, 2017 Posted April 14, 2017 Also remember this may not be how it looks on air. It may not be fully lit. Very true. I also wonder if this will be a GDC set? It would make more sense. Is it Fox 29 that differentiates between the two?
brb588 114 Posted April 17, 2017 Posted April 17, 2017 Those lights above that monitor are weird looking. I wonder if they are temporary.
Jase 1068 Posted April 19, 2017 Posted April 19, 2017 Those lights above that monitor are weird looking. I wonder if they are temporary. Hopefully they are, along with that logo on the wall and the desk.
Weeters 1969 Posted April 19, 2017 Posted April 19, 2017 Those lights above that monitor are weird looking. I wonder if they are temporary. I doubt they'd spend the time and money to install them if they weren't going to keep them there (which is where they need to be to backlight talent standing in front of the monitor.) They probably won't be seen on camera 98% of the time anyways... Sometimes stations wait to debut a set at a specific time. Just because it's done doesn't mean they're going to rush to debut it. I think I know why they're waiting, though...

Weeters 1969 Posted April 19, 2017 Posted April 19, 2017 My guess is it'll be debuted April 27th...Just saying! You are probably correct. Sweeps would be one of those reasons to wait.
Breaking News 839 Posted May 10, 2017 Posted May 10, 2017 http://www.newscaststudio.com/2017/05/09/fox-32-chicago-new-set/ Clickspring Design Very sharp looking set, hopefully, they won't stay in 5th place.

CircleSeven 1960 Posted May 10, 2017 Posted May 10, 2017 Very sharp looking set, hopefully, they won't stay in 5th place. New set won't make any difference in the ratings. It will still be status quo.
Spring Rubber 716 Posted May 11, 2017 Posted May 11, 2017 Your turn, WBBM and WGN. I'm pretty sure changes at WGN will take place under the next ownership regime. WBBM desperately needs to do something. The fact that their current set is a stripped down version of what it was intended to be is laughable.
nynewslover 280 Posted May 11, 2017 Posted May 11, 2017 Hopefully WNWY is the next FOX O&O to get a new set
Greggo 358 Posted May 11, 2017 Posted May 11, 2017 Wasn't WGN on the list to get a new set from Tribune this year?!? Although in light of the sale to Sinclair that could very well be history. If it's left up to Sinclair, I wouldn't mind if they get something like KOMO's set.

Jase 1068 Posted May 11, 2017 Posted May 11, 2017 A new set would seem to be way, way, way down on the list for WGN. Tribune Media signed a lease to move to the Illinois Center this summer. They also signed a 10-yr lease to remain at Bradley Place. I highly doubt Sinclair will spend a penny until those things, among many others, are worked out first. So a new set (investment) may be not be in the cards for some time.
