NBC 5 Chicago 191
So Wolf is in New York in the former CNN This Morning studio. Erin Burnett is in Washington DC. It's interesting that they swapped cities. Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/16640-cnn-the-continuing-soap-opera/page/39/#findComment-301443 Share on other sites
Geoffrey 857
Looks like both the NY and DC editions of CNN News Central are back to using the monitor walls the way they used to. I guess it really was due to preparing for election coverage. Geoffrey 857
Alisyn Camerota signed off from CNN just before 5:00 tonight. (She was filling in for Fredricka Whitfield, but anchoring with Wolf Blitzer because of the Syria situation.) https://www.instagram.com/p/DDUsc5PxdVI/ She was great on New Day with Chris Cuomo and later John Berman, but CNN didn't seem to know what to do with her once she left mornings. (I believe she said at the time that it was her decision to leave because she was tired of mornings.) Personally, I really appreciated her coverage of Covid in 2020 when I was overwhelmed by watching too much news. mountainave 600
She also anchored a great version of CNN Tonight 10p-12a in a round-table format similar to the current CNN NewsNight. Her husband died in July, and she has children to care for in addition to grieving herself. She also wrote a memoir, Combat Love, which is being adapted for screen. 1 Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/16640-cnn-the-continuing-soap-opera/page/39/#findComment-302037 Share on other sites
FranceToUs 6
The CNN Tonight version she anchored was simply the best format I've ever seen on a news channel both in Europe and in the US. People got the time to express their ideas, it was welcoming guests from anywhere in the political spectrum but rather in an intellectual perspective (not so much a partisan talk which NewsNight obviously is), and talked about a wide range of political subjects. During a short period of time, the 11pm-12am segment was a bit different but fitted very well next to the 10am-11am "opinion" style debate, as it welcomed only the journalists from the newsroom to talk in depth about the subjects they were working on (on a white sofa, in an Outnumbered style). This segment was called "tomorrow's news tonight", and this whole version of CNN Tonight deserved a really longer run! 6 Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/16640-cnn-the-continuing-soap-opera/page/39/#findComment-302047 Share on other sites
YourWorldToday 15
Surprised no one here has picked up on this yet - looks Wolf Blitzer is set to move to 10am. The Situation Room is moving with him, and he will co-host with Pamela Brown. https://variety.com/2025/tv/news/wolf-blitzer-cnn-daytime-anchor-move-1236276044/ https://nypost.com/2025/01/16/media/cnn-to-shift-wolf-blitzer-to-mornings-in-massive-shakeup-at-network-report/ Not only that, but Kasie Hunt may move from the early show to 4pm, with Jake Tapper shifting to 5pm. And get this... https://www.thedailybeast.com/cnn-plots-to-bury-the-anchor-trump-hates-most/ the boss wants Jim Acosta to move to midnight! (Though there is talk that this offer involves moving to LA, where it would be 9pm.) It seems like this is a way to get rid of Jim, and he's calling their bluff. Interesting times at CNN. 1 Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/16640-cnn-the-continuing-soap-opera/page/39/#findComment-302923 Share on other sites

Reportedly, NewsNight does well (by CNN standards) that it's not surprising they want to promote Phillip. Not sure how different 'Table for Five' will be from NewsNight. Sounds like CNN wants their own version of 'The Five' or 'The View'. 2 Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/16640-cnn-the-continuing-soap-opera/page/39/#findComment-302973 Share on other sites

mountainave 600
A few brief thoughts: Not sure Wolf has ever co-anchored a broadcast (other than virtually for special broadcasts). He's been flying solo in studio for decades. Will be interesting to see. Hopefully Pamela learns from his direct interview style. Tapper is a strong anchor and has been Wolf's heir apparent, so not surprised he'll take the 5-7 slot, though I'm disappointed it'll be as part of The Lead. I would rather see him become host of Situation Room 5p-7p than move The Lead into that slot. I never loved the format, pace, organization, graphics, music, etc of The Lead. I think it lacks the same gravitas that gives Situation Room a commanding presence. Somewhat surprised Alex Marquardt doesn't fit in to the succession plan given he's been a primary fill-in on Sit Room and done a strong job. However, he was a central figure in CNN's recent defamation suit which probably didn't help him. 1 1 Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/16640-cnn-the-continuing-soap-opera/page/39/#findComment-303110 Share on other sites

Actually, Kate Bolduan was Wolf's co-anchor for the second hour (at 6 p.m.?) for a bit. I'm not sure how "official" it was as I don't think her name was in the graphics and I don't recall her being in promos. But she was definitely there. This was until Kate was tapped to launch New Day with Chris Cuomo ad Michaela Pereira. 1 Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/16640-cnn-the-continuing-soap-opera/page/39/#findComment-303195 Share on other sites

MSNBC is crazy if they don't do everything they can to get him on their network. I don't see how anyone can trust or defend CNN after this decision. One of the highest rated anchors, who has higher ratings than some of the primetime shows, gets his show cancelled just because he was critical of Trump. It sends a message that nobody at CNN is safe saying anything critical about the Trump admin. It's funny how this thread was started by someone on the far right criticizing CNN for doing actual journalism because it was critical of Trump and now years later the same network is removing journalists who have been critical of Trump and normalizing the Republican party's unprecedented shift to authoritarianism Edited February 2 by Reweivvt88 5 Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/16640-cnn-the-continuing-soap-opera/page/39/#findComment-303343 Share on other sites
