Observing this, it looks like WTHI, WFFT and WLFI all received the blue and red Hothaus graphics.

Here are the WLFI, WTHI and WFFT news opens utilizing the new graphics.

Oh my god they look awlful, including the set design.

My question though: isn't it federal law to break into programming for life-threatening severe weather?  So isn't Allen "technically" breaking the law because they aren't providing life-saving information?? I just can't see TWC providing live coverage, especially if they struggle bad enough with who they have for national coverage?? I'm just curious if there are lawsuits just waiting to happen??

Byron Allen's media empire could be subject FCC and congressional investigations and paying hefty fines to the FCC over this apparent violation of not serving the best interests local TV viewing audiences.  At this point, Allen would probably be smart to sell his local TV stations off to companies that can operate stations that would adhere to serving public interests in good faith, and building up new groups of up-and-coming content creators.

At least unite the graphics packages, WTHI is still on a LIN-era system. I like unique looks but not because you starve your stations to make more cheap game shows with expensive comedians and court show hosts.

The FCC and Congress are not going to “investigate” scaling back news operations for economic factors. And there are few to no unicorn operators out there who will sink money into a pit from which it will never return.

Did they (WFFT) just removed the FOX out their branding 'Fox 55'?

Never know especially if the FCC gets a lot of complaints from viewers especially WTVA.

Edited by ScottSchell

Those complaints can go right to the circular file after whatever perfunctory acknowledgement they wish to provide.

There are a plethora of stations that don’t run news operations. There is nothing that states if your station had one that it must continue in perpetuity, regardless of economic factors.

The realities of the ad economy are harsh. Viewers have more choices, the revenue pie gets split more ways, and something’s gonna give. Does it suck for some viewers? Yep. For the hard-working people laid off? Double yep. That is always true with any cutbacks in any industry. But life is rough.

If there is some bottomless-pocketed investor out where, and who meets the unrealistic standards people put forth, who is it? Who is going to pump that kind of money into let’s just say the Allen portfolio? What would be their actual return on investment?

Much like the contraction of the print news industry, it’s a disconcerting change to people who lived a long time with a different reality. But that world? It’s gone.

LIN hasn't even existed in a fucking decade! Heartland must've been cheapasses too.

WLFI set is from when they went HD under LIN, WTHI set when they built their new building in 2012 under LIN, and WFFT set from their HD days under Nexstar. Under Heartland, I think both THI and LFI did add some more people back and improved their reporting. I think if Heartland hadn’t sold, they would have gotten new sets or updated sets.

I'm hearing from a source who used to be at an AMG station they are reversing the Mets layoffs. Don't know if it is only select affiliates or all. Will update soon when I learn more.

It's only a rumor at this point, but the Broadcasting subreddit has been pretty spot on about things like this.  Perhaps even Byron Allen realized this was an incredibly dumb move.

Please let it be true and they reverse it for all stations.

That’s a pretty impressive article/post in the context of today’s business world. Not criticizing it.

I believe that station had by far the biggest backlash of any of them. It would probably garner Allen the most money as well if they decided to sell it.

Considering the extreme weather that part of the country gets, I'm not surprised one bit.

KDRV wasn't mentioned amongst that list. However, they're sticking around too and if that's the case, so will KEZI and all their stations.

We have heard WAAY being one of those stations keeping their weather team and now it sounds like stations are quickly doing a 180 in making a video and letting folks know that stations are keeping their weather teams in place.

I think we're being duped by this because I saw an intro for one of Indiana News Now (the new combined WFFT/WTHI/WLFI effort)'s weekend newscasts... and they were using a TWC meteorologist from Atlanta, complete with the StormTeam logo but also with TWC graphics.

I'm starting to suspect that Allen will *lowkey* move forward with these plans but doing so without any fanfare.

I'll try to find it, unless someone can clarify quicker, but I thought I read after Allen pulled the plug on replacing the local weather teams that one of the chief mets noted on their Facebook page that for weekends and fill-in that TWC could/would still be used.

Allen making weather changes at WEVV-Evansville as The Weather Channel moves in:

From Griffin Glasscock, Chief Met:

"Good morning, friends! I have an update to share about my new schedule. Starting Monday, I will be forecasting weather for our early evening news: 4, 5 & 6PM.

44News is partnering with the Weather Channel. They will be doing weather for our morning news moving forward.

I truly love the mornings, which makes this change extremely hard. I may not miss the 2:30AM alarm clock, but I will miss waking up with each of you every morning and working next to my best friends (Tommy & Megan).

I look forward to spending my mornings with my sweet boy and husband. I hope you’ll continue welcoming me into your homes as you settle down for the night. Thank you for the constant support and kindness! Love y’all❤"
