Here's an interesting one from the "dog days" of WVUE in New Orleans.   I call it the Soap Opera-Courthouse Sketch open.

Here's a better quality version of their weekend anchors, without the supers.

That logo was kind of ominous too, as about 20 years later, the station would be under water thanks to Hurricane Katrina.  But ever since then, they've risen up to become the #1 station in New Orleans.

This looks (and sounds) like an SNL parody of a small-market station's newscast.

LOL!  The voiceover almost sounds exactly like Chris Parnell from SNL!

If you thought that was bad, look at their morning show’s open. It looks like they made it in Windows Movie Maker or something.

Btw, if I saw this show first thing in the morning, it’d probably put me back to sleep. Also, the almanac at the end of the clip is an assault on the eyes. But I guess it has that hometown feel that the people of Cordele, GA apparently love 🤷‍♂️

Grace of god, eh?  Too bad no creative sense was imparted by "His" grace.

When it came on, WSST was the only full-power station in the Channel America network, which was almost exclusively an LPTV play.

The announcer isn't no Chris Parnell, but sounds like an announcer who has been in broadcasting for a long time. The announcer doing the WSST news open is Lee Wright who, if I am not mistaken, is still at the station and even hosts a music video program which airs on the station.

Meanwhile on sister station WSWG, who is also owned by Marquee, is this piece of newscast from INN.

Where exactly is "South Geogria"?

Where exactly is "South Geogria"?

Basically, it's the area that is otherwise known as Southeast Georgia, encompassing cities like Valdosta, Brunswick and Waycross and other areas on the northern regions of the Jacksonville and Tallahassee markets. There are some places within the Albany DMA that use the term as well.

Technically, Valdosta is part of the Tallahassee market, and before Marquee purchased the station, it was largely a repeater of WCTV in Tallahassee designed for the Albany market to pipe in CBS programming.  With WSST up in Cordele, the stations are available on each other's .2s to provide more of a reach since the WSWG signal barely reaches Albany itself.

Long ago, I believe WSB was piped in all the way from Atlanta to provide ABC service to the market, from the time when WVGA which preceded WSWG, went off the air.

A Sinclair station that outsources its news to a Lockwood station that still has the Gray-era graphics from their former ownership.

Basically a freakshow 🤷‍♂️

Looking at this recent open has got me confused about which newscast branding is the correct one... KTRE 9 News (voiceover/1st chryon) or KTRE News 9 (anchor/other chryons)? 🤷‍♂️

Here are some bad news opens from small market TV in Canada...

"Primetime Local News" from CITL-TV/CKSA-TV in Lloydminster, Canada (a city that sits on the border of the provinces of Alberta and Saskatchewan). This station could use a new brand like "Border News Now" or something...

Southwest TV News, Swift Current, Saskatchewan. This news operation came about after the closure of the only local TV station in town, CJFB-TV, in 2002. I believe they were cable/online only.

CFTK-TV, Terrace, BC (2004). It's the quick fade of the music for me.

One more... CJDC-TV Dawson Creek, BC
