1. The open to a weekend edition of WTVH's Newscenter 5 in 1992, with a cut of Symphony not yet documented for WTVH: And the music makes this 1986 WHEC promo:

2. WENY seems to have been on the same "older than it is" kick that then-sister station WMGM was on. At least WMGM in 1993 tried to act like the current year, even WENY's local ads looked like they were made a decade earlier

5. The news broke late the night before, so full coverage began bright and early on Monday the 8th. I'd assume this was the main open at 7am, but the network had actually been on the air earlier for what would be a scrubbed space shuttle landing. I remember it like it was yesterday. 13 years ago, this morning...

6. Yeah, this idea that Tegna is rolling out the red carpet for a vet anchor is crap. He's doing commentary and is probably not getting paid a whole lot to do so. Tegna has pushed out far more longtime anchors than they've brought in, that's for sure. Seems like half the people at KING are like nobodies now. (Hip nobodies)

7. With respect, that’s likely because a good number of “the posters on this board” are employed by or have experience with stations in this market or others, and may be more keenly aware of the economics that drive business decisions in this industry. We are each certainly welcome to our opinions, but I do think we need to thoughtfully consider the perspective of those actually working in the trenches. Perhaps it’s the case that ratings aren’t the only metric driving business decision. Maybe the station profits more from producing and selling advertisements for a newscast than syndicated fare.

8. It was included in another form on the video I posted in the Classic Video thread, but I went and got another take of it in (slightly) better quality. The clock ticking to 4 o'clock is something I wish could be reincorporated into opens again, someday.

9. Even for WJZ, this was pretty corny. But this at least looked a little better:

10. Scripps & (TEGNA) have wanted to get rid of high price profile anchors in their respected markets. For TV5 being such a legacy station it current state and most state of Scripps stations suck donkey balls. I understand they have to streamline and that all good and great. However WEWS looks like crap, and Leon Bibb said he working part-time at WKYC.

11. Definitely and it didn’t seem like she did really anything to help her case. There was a lot of victim blaming from the young girl which was rather bizarre.

12. That young woman should have thought clearly before going on TV. She admitted to doing it and if an charges are brought or a lawsuit she can’t plea innocence.

13. I found the premise of the whole interview to be bizarre. I'm not really sure how to explain, but I don't know why they even had her on the show for an interview in the first place.

19. It's WENY's Eyewitness News in 1993...or is that 1980??? Also in Ithaca was the cable newscast "News Center 7", which still looks better than WENY: And on the other side, WTVW looked almost major-market in 1990:

21. No, they were a little different. In style they were closer to the 1993 set. They had a "Heart of Carolina" logo at the front, too.

25. Even by WKYC bringing Leon Bibb back, the TEGNA-zation kind of weirds me out, seeing as how WKYC has, for the most part, been unscathed by corporate mandates. It actually makes WEWS just a tad more watchable, even though that station is a shadow of its former self. I can't wait to see what Gray does to 19.... they'll probably just make it even more mediocre than it is now....

26. It seems that When Gannett/TEGNA got a hold of those former Belo Stations. TEGNA got a hold of the most respected stations and gutted them. WWL is a shadow of it former self. When you read about some of the execs said they had to transform the news into a 21st century model. They just went crazy in my book.

27. Julius I think this is the dumbest conversation I’ve ever heard on one of these threads you’re entertaining something that isn’t even brought up into existence the only prevelant question I have for a FOX O&O is why WNYW didn’t go through with the noon newscast and of course the set but pretty much everyone has let that go since they’ve gotten the new couch and backdrop which probably means there gonna be there for a while.

28. Exactly. Never thought I’d be referring to the Robin, George, Josh, Lara and Sam era as the “good old days” but the show was 1000x better then than it is now. Stop insulting everyone’s intelligence by trying to pass off Michael as a journalist. Blow the whole program up and start over at this point
1 point
29. Agreed, 100%. I loved Michael on “Live” and thought he was great when he was part time on Good Morning America. I saw the interview, too. Pretty awful. I’ve also seen other broadcasts where they have him interviewing the former NYPD commissioner about counter terrorism and it’s a struggle to watch. If they want Strahan to be part of the cast, Good Morning America should’ve went back to a winning ensemble model similar to what they had in 2012/2013 with Robin, George, Josh, Sam, and Lara. The current version could be Robin, George, Amy Robach, Ginger Zee, and Michael Strahan.

31. Some KTUL clips from 1986, still using the 1985 theme. Anchors featured are Carole Lambert and Richard Hull of WLWT fame, as well as of course, Charles Ely. Was Hull the guy who replaced Bob Hower?? I know Steve Knight didn’t come in till ‘88, and Hower retired two years prior.

45. Possibly inspired by YT compilations on my channel and that of The ID Junkie, DMA37Dude has decided to create news open compilations, but is focusing solely on his home market of San Antonio. (He asks that no requests for other markets be given.) I don't know if he'll include KVDA and KWEX among the stations he'll focus on, or just the Big Four outlets.
