4. Jeff Zucker should have never made it past his EP gig at Today. This was the last time he actually succeeded at something. Ever since he took over in increasing roles at NBC, he destroyed that network until it was bought by Comcast. Even then, much of its success has been a result of the declines of everyone else. And remember, HE himself was responsible for bringing on the Donald to The Apprentice... Flash forward to CNN. Much of the damage has been done under his tenure, from the endless coverage of stories like the missing plane to the never-ending coverage of the Oval Office. CNN, like the rest of the media was guilty by falling for Trump's never ending yapping and inability to shut his mouth, and gave this man the greatest gift any political candidate could ever receive, endless FREE publicity. After his election, someone finally had a stream of consciousness, and the endless coverage shifted to the antics that this president was generating. Of course, the "right side" used this as ammo to paint all of this smotherage as "fake news". Things are so screwed up, some of it deserves coverage. But there are other things going on in this world, and it's going to have to take a change at the top at this point to get back to the real issues we face, and so journalists can cover something else for a change. Leave the antics to the tabloids and whack-job partisan sites.....

 9. Completely agree the show doesn’t really seem to have a sense of itself with Michael there. Losing Amy would be a big blow in my opinion as she should be Robin’s replacement soon. The Michael experiment isn’t working and he hasn’t turned out to be the hit he was supposed to be. Hopefully he’ll leave soon enough

 16. I like how a lot of people on here think this rebrand was a knee-jerk reaction that they just decided to do one afternoon. Believe me, they focus grouped this stuff, and did their research, and it took months to settle on this brand and logo combo. YOU may not like it, but apparently the research and focus groups did.

 17. We don't have a domestic news channel anymore. They are all talk radio and inside baseball. CNN is shameless in how much of a ratings grab it's become. It is sad because of how great CNN used to be. CNN International still has some bright spots coming from Atlanta and London, and they still have a pretty great stable of correspondents. But you'll almost never see any of that on the domestic channel. CNN was always the dream for me professionally. Not so much anymore.

 26. One white whale spotted. In addition to some of the other Oklahoma City TV news white whales on our wish list, I think one should be complete KFOR newscasts from between 1994 and 1997. NewsActive3 has a couple of opens from that period, although those were culled from editions of NBC Nightside. The graphics KFOR used then were the best they ever used prior to the modified version of the Tribune Fox package they introduced last August. I'm not sure, but the '94 package may have been made by the same firm that created KRON's 1995-99 graphics package, there are a lot of similar elements in both. (I do have a video featuring most of a 4:30 p.m. newscast from early 1997, but I can't upload it since I don't have a capture card plus my laptop is being repaired.) BTW, the "24-Hour News and Information Source/Station" slogan introduced with the "4 Strong" rebranding was the subject of a legal challenge filed by KOCO days after it took place. From Wikipedia (with articles from The Daily Oklahoman about the case linked in the quote): Within months, KFOR switched to obliquely referencing its 24-Hour News Source format in the news slogan it used until the fall(?) of '97, "Where the News Comes First, 24 Hours a Day," which was also used by sister station WHO during that period. In hindsight, KFOR's on-air look during the News Team 4 era was basically a knockoff (unintentional or not) of KOCO's then-recently-introduced John Christopher Burns package. The "4 Strong" branding is even reminiscent of KOCO's "5 Alive" moniker.

 32. Orlando from 20 years ago! WCPX prior to call sign change and a fairly rare newscast on WRBW (from WFTV)... WRBW (Orlando) May 12, 1997 10:00pm WFTV (Orlando) May 12, 1997 11:00pm WCPX (Orlando) May 15, 1997 6:00pm Again folks, as I find stuff, I post it. Right now, I'm focusing on getting the 20+ year old newscasts. Once I get to the 2000s, I've got tons, and it will take some time just in uploading stuff (just the real time converting and uploading the files takes a while - and I have a full-time+ job and am taking a class in the evenings). I'm going to start linking everything off of a web-site - which will probably become my "Classic Newscast Museum". Once I get stuff posted (and a standard page format developed), I'll let everyone know... Jim

 34. Not just the first five minutes -- that was the length of the entire newscast at the time. Because four other stations were already airing news at 10 p.m., KPHO had decided to counterprogram in that timeslot instead of going head-to-head with full-length newscasts on KTVK, KSAZ, KPNX, and KNXV. Therefore, for its first few years as a CBS affiliate, the station aired a five-minute newscast at 10 p.m. and followed it with syndicated episodes of Seinfeld.

 38. I wonder what will happen after Tribune is sold (assuming it is) - that could be the next game changer if KCPQ can make moves. Unless Sinclair keeps it and sells KOMO... This is definitely KIRO's time to shine though and they took advantage of an opening.

 40. Feder's off this week and none of the other regular blogs/publications have mentioned this, so YOU READ IT HERE FIRST, dammit. No bio online, and I don't know if or when he'll ever make it on-air, but it looks like ABC 7 has added a digital journalist in 2017 Northwestern grad Jesse Kirsch. His non-station Twitter bio references time spent with the network and WLNS in Lansing. He was also news director of the school's student news product. https://twitter.com/JesseKirschABC7 His first stories... http://abc7chicago.com/society/vietnam-vet-reunited-with-lost-purple-heart-medal-/1840414/ http://abc7chicago.com/sports/46-year-cubs-season-ticket-holder-wants-a-repeat-title/1857824/ The reporters are officially getting younger than me. 41. The reason it's off is because they're trying to peddle the same BS the White House has been spewing about "Fake News" and trying to paint themselves as "The Truth". They've used the same exact talking points over and over again anytime someone accuses Sinclair of coverage that's favorable to the current White House administration. It's no secret that Sinclair is very supportive of who is currently in the White House right now, which is why I find it so hysterical when they get so defensive when people call them out on it.

 46. It's actually not that big a surprise. Channel 24 has languished in last place since... what... the early 1970s? Had they remained under Raycom ownership, it's possible that they could have been somewhat competitive against long-dominant WTOL and WTVG. Channel 24 has been snake-bit ever since it was the (not kidding) flagship of the Overmyer/United Network. Creditors even owned it throughout the early 1980s when owner Don Overmyer defaulted on loans! It was a miracle that WTVG was bought by ABC, thus giving WNWO the NBC affiliation on a silver platter. (WXYZ would outdraw channel 24 in Toledo during the ABC years, and I wouldn't be surprised if WDIV outdraws WNWO today.)

 47. Call it a lie or whatever you want, in his original interview Lotche claimed that he and others were forced to the ground by gunpoint after their car was pulled over or whatever. That has been determined to be a lie, Ryan Lotche himself has admitted that. And forgive me because I don't watch too often, but the few times I have seen Today's Take they pretty much spend the first 20 minutes discussing hot topics and giving their own opinions on it. If that's the format of the show, Al Roker was well within his rights to voice his opinion. He's a weatherman on the Today Show, yet you're acting like he must be as impartial as an investigative journalist on 60 Minutes or something. Also, the Olympic committee itself has spoken out about taking action again Lotche and the other swimmers for their stupidity. I doubt that they're seriously upset with NBC for reporting the news as they should, and if there are indeed strained relations between them and NBC it most likely stems from the peacock's shitty Olympic coverage.
