  1. Also …. CBS now has a Black woman, a Greek man and Black man who was a former NFL athlete all anchoring a morning show in Times Square. Sound familiar?

  2. Local content is more lucrative than syndicated, and what's being shopped around for syndication isn't great.

  3. I just don’t understand why they keep changing the name of the show. I know it’s for the ratings, etc. but for example, whenever you say the words “GMA” or “Today show” to someone, there’s a likely chance they know what you’re talking about. But for CBS, it’s just gonna make it hard to keep up with people who have no interest in it. Other than the name change, it does look like an exciting, fresh look.

  4. This probably explains why WITI or KCPQ hasn't switched weather graphics from their Trib packages; why do it when the Fox Weather package would be coming after a few months anyways?

  5. I hope WVUE sticks with their Raycom package.

  6. New PRMs today. Gray has filed four new petitions to get them off of VHF. KMVT (11 > 16) KNOE (8 > 24) KSCW (12 > 28) WYMT (12 > 20)

  8. They may be trying to follow the KTLA route; Newscast pretty much 75% of the day.

  9. WTTG and the Fox DC bureau are separate entities. WTTG is in Bethesda, MD, about 8-9 miles from the Fox DC bureau on N Capitol Street (where NBC and others have their DC operations as well.)

  10. I guess save it for other CBS News programs until it serves no purpose anymore? I agree that it aged great after almost a decade of service.

  11. So what becomes of Studio 57? That set IMO held up pretty well.

  12. The set feels like a lateral move. I like imaging closer to 'Sunday Morning,' though I hope that program isn't changed too much. Points for 'Saturday Morning,' versus the silliness that was 'This Morning: Saturday,' but I feel like 'This Morning' on weekdays would've been more cohesive than 'Mornings.' That said, I doubt any of it will make any difference, positive or negative.

  14. Here's video announcing the reformat, along with a version of Sunday Morning's theme as its theme and pics of the set -- which I think looks amazing (and yes, there is a rooster sculpture; say what you will). It's all growing on me already.

  15. I'd argue that Sunday Morning and 60 Minutes are the last two obviously successful franchises in the CBS News Portfolio (up for debate, but CTM, FTN, and EBSEN ratings are my evidence)- Guess Susan's plan is to dilute that across the franchise? Feels like doubling down on stupid.

  16. CBS confirms new format, name for CBS Mornings From the article: Starting September 7, the entire CBS morning schedule will be treated as a larger franchise, with weekdays and Saturdays featuring some of the in-depth and longform features for which the Sunday show — a TV-news institution — is best known. Even the popular trumpet fanfare that greets viewers of “Sunday Morning” will find its way to its counterparts. “There is a real affection for that program,” says Khemlani. CBS is counting on the sound of that horn to lure new viewers in an era when doing so has become a tougher task. “We are essentially building a franchise that is seven days a week,” he adds.

  17. Wow, that KCOP stuff is raaaaaaare. (They indeed changed their news brand and look later that year.) It also is loaded with strange presentation elements.

  18. This January 1995 KCOP newscast must be from the tail end of the Real News format -- many of the CityTV-inspired elements were gone by this time: For comparison, here's KCOP at the height of its "CityTV phase":

  19. Hmm interesting. I would think if they wanted to start a 4pm newscast, their 5pm ratings would be halfway decent? It would be great if Kala and Craig were named anchors, and perhaps given the 4 and 6pm then? Craig seems to still fill in quite a bit, Kala not as much, with Shirley Chan being the main fill in anchor (who I also wouldn't mind as an anchor candidate). To me it would be total overkill to have Tamsen and Kori anchor 2 1/2 hours straight of news, but then again the morning anchors do it. To think out of the box, Kirstin Cole would be another candidate who fills in a lot on the mornings (although she is better suited for mornings).

  21. Not directly a broadcaster, but it's big enough in MN that competitors are covering the death of former WCCO Sports Anchor Mark Rosen's wife after a long battle with cancer. (Rosen is now with KFAN Radio) https://minnesota.cbslocal.com/2021/08/31/my-heart-is-aching-mark-rosen-announces-wife-denise-passed-peacefully/ https://www.kare11.com/article/news/local/denise-rosen-dies-cancer-battle-wcco-mark-rosen/89-c7de92a3-8149-4f8d-b936-c1d8752f1aa6
