CBS Evening News recently ran a story that aired over a month ago on CBS Mornings, offered no update and even trimmed it down from its original package. more from FTV Live: https://www.ftvlive.com/sqsp-test/2022/3/24/recycling-the-news-at-cbs3 points

Agreed. It was especially a disappointment that the second version didn't last, and Tong & Blackmon weren't moved over to the other weekday timeslots (and Tamsen Fadal was).3 points

It won't last long. It happened twice in 2009 and then in 2016 with Kaity and Brenda Blackmon only lasting 8 months.2 points

They could also force the western stations (specifically the O&Os) to broadcast the east coast live at 3:30pm. I know KPIX does it, That could increase ratings.2 points

Studio 45 at the CBS Broadcast Center was home to Inside Edition and Sunday Morning. The Sunday Morning hard set took up most of the space. Opposite the Sunday set was a large green screen that was utilized for the studio portions of Inside Edition. Studio 45 is now being used for Paramount Plus. To me, the minimalistic set from the 70s is part of the DNA of the show. I think their chroma key looks cheap and is more reminiscent of the production value you'd see at a small market station, not a national news program. I know CBS values the story over the presentation, but there's a fine line between intentional minimalism and poor quality. 60 Minutes does all its studio wraps on blue screen and it looks extremely polished. I know studio space is at a premium and it is not efficient to have Studio 45 house a hard set that is only on air for 90 minutes a week. But there must be a better way to shoot this show.1 point

PIX definitely needs to expand their team beyond Tamsen and Kori if they want to expand. Personally not a fan of the new 4pm anchor either. I could see Shirley Chan given a permanent anchor role soon given she fills in a lot. Either way don't see it lasting long as others mentioned1 point

As much as I'd root for a new theme to come with it, every theme they've had since they dumped the wonderful '09 version has been a downgrade.1 point

Where did you see this? Any sneak peaks? Also wonder if this means their new set will debut then?1 point

It doesn’t have the warm feel the show used to have. Feels stiff and looks low budget. Wish they had kept the studio.1 point

Well, there are rumors that the O&Os will have a newscast at 9am, so they could extend the AM crew to 9am and perhaps have a new team at 121 point

The new logo is all over the station promos. Wise move to bring back the "TV55" identity. The last time they identified as "TV55" was in 1997 before they became an affiliate of The WB.1 point

Sinclair was absurdly blatant trying to “offload” WPIX to Cunningham and WGN-TV to a freaking car dealership not named Big Bill Hells. That’s the equivalent of trying to rob a bank holding a bowling ball with a glued-on string “fuse”. It was so outrageous that Ajit Pai couldn’t even defend it.1 point

Correct, low-power stations don’t count. KRDK is another “voice” in the market even though it is nothing more than a glorified diginet tree.1 point

With all of the news lately surrounding Baker Mayfield and the Cleveland Browns, could his wife, Emily, end up leaving WKYC? She has been the station's lifestyle reporter during football season since 2019.1 point

The FCC allowed KAXT-CD to have virtual channel 1.1 point

The introduction of WOIO was more of a threat than WBNX, since they were more of a Cleveland-centric station than WBNX. Also, they were very aggressive with their programming, eventually becoming the charter FOX affiliate over WUAB, which had a lot of out-of-market viewers at the time thanks to their Cleveland Indians telecasts. WOIO snagged the Cavs from WUAB and kept them until 1994 when they were moved back to WUAB under the Malrite LMA. WCLQ never really thrived in their second coming of Channel 61, especially post "Preview" and subsequent owners wanted to put HSN programming on, so that became their fate as WQHS.1 point

That link doesn't work. But yes the Paperwork is now up. Here's the comprehensive exhibit & merger agreement. In regards to the Dallas situation, if you remember when Tegna bought KMPX from Estrella back in the fall of 2020, there was an option agreement in which Estrella can acquire WFAA (but only the VHF equipment (antenna, transmitter, etc.) and not the studio or programming) within five years after the original deal was completed. I don't expect post-transaction Tegna would keep the other Dallas station long term. But should the option be exercised, expect the callsign & virtual channels to be swapped, but viewers won't notice the difference once they rescan their TVs. Well, other than having WFAA on a stronger UHF signal.1 point

I was going to write something out defending the concept of TV graphic artists copying each other, but it's really not just a problem there. The whole industry copies each other's work. Look at how many stations just blatantly copied WSVN's format in the 90's and early 2000's. The whole industry functions by taking what works in one market and either improving on it or just straight up copying it.1 point

I figured it was an independent creation. So if it was a Tristan Bresnan product, then he can do whatever he wants with it. In this case, NCN Nebraska gets it. Much like the subsuming of the old Sinclair News Music package that Stephen Arnold created. They didn't renew it due to the SESAC crisis, it gets absorbed into U-Phonix for all of their clients to use. There's a dearth of great graphics packages out there just sitting around waiting to be used because all the companies have their own looks these days.1 point

WFXT is the sixth-place station in a five-station town and where WHDH kicks their butts in all the time slots that matter. This isn't about retrans, it's a practical joke Apollo is making to Soo Kim.1 point

From the NYC DOB, there is work being done on floors 1, 2 and 3. WPIX has enterance on floor 1 and a studio an old newsroom area on 2 (remember the old Tong/Cafferty news set?) Traffic is done from the old news room. WPIX original tv studio (magic garden, INN news) was done on the 10th. They are now pix offices and newsroom. Would make sense to expand to 3rd floor. Also when the Daily News Building was sold by Tribune, it was grandfathered in that Pix would always have a home at a special rate1 point

Welp, it's February 2022 (the first Sweeps month of the year), and none of the 8 ABC O&O's have adopted the new graphics. Makes me wonder if the stations are satisfied with the graphics they have right now.1 point

WNYW and WWOR kept their news departments seperate, from Fox's acquisition of Chris-Craft in 2001 all the way until the shutdown of WWOR's news department in 2013.1 point

Run that in °C, and now you can have the same hourly temperatures for 10 months! Anyways, to keep this thread on topic, Gray Television's WTVG (a former O&O no less) has switched, but only the bug has the new logo. The opens have not been modified yet unlike KOTA (who also has the new logo).1 point

Coworker and I were talking about this yesterday (sorry I didn't think to post about this then). So- either FCC denies the KVRR sale and breaks up KVLY's duopoly (or would they be grandfathered in?) Or they allow the sale and the ownership rules are all out the door? That's how I feel this reads between the lines...0 points
