  1. I actually don't see completely getting rid of the channel number being a good move. Several of the CBS O&Os are heritage stations from the start up of television, over 70 years old. Throughout the years, most people refer to them as Channel 2, Channel 4 etc. Considering local news skews older demographically, those are the folks that are used to watching Channel 2 most of their lives and will refer to it that way. If the heritage channel numbers weren't important, why did they all push for virtual channel numbers when they converted to digital TV? The non station branding is fine, NBC has done that for years, but they did not abandon channel numbers either.

  2. Nope. The show doesn’t have an official website. But I did find this anti-Ring Nation website.

  3. Not to mention the leaked videos that Mike and Owen posted a few weeks ago. I think the channel numbers are gonzo.

  4. There was a promo video posted in the WCBS thread about a Jets show they air that had the “CBS New York” branding on it instead of “CBS 2”. KCNC is gearing up to rebrand to “CBS Colorado” and the 9am newscast they launched this week is called “CBS Colorado Mornings”. WWJ has already rebranded itself to “CBS Detroit” and their entire news department will be called “CBS News Detroit”. And when KCAL launches their new morning newscast in a month or two, it certainly won’t be called “KCAL 9 News Mornings” since KCBS will simulcast an hour of that show at 6am in between their double-run of CBS Mornings. Not to mention WFOR has been teasing a rebrand to “CBS News Miami” for a few months now. The evidence is overwhelming at this point.

  5. No reason to work into your 60s/70s if you don't have to. She has accomplished a lot in her career so, in her eyes, there's nothing else left to achieve.

  6. CBS Detroit will be using the Next branding. Their "Next Weather Tracker" debuted at the Detroit International Car Show.

  8. I'm not sure I'd say that WAGA is not a legacy station. It has been on since 1949, although it has been with Fox since 1994. All that time it has been a (mostly) competitive second to WSB. WXIA, however, had no ties to a radio station (unlike WSB and WAGA), and has been on the air since 1951, but I doubt if anyone considers it a legacy station, what with a long history of turnover in ownership, call letters, and personalities.

  9. JHud and Sherri...great shows, thank goodness. Hopefully they'll move on from 'another Wendy' talk real fast, because they're none of that. The complete dud for sure this year is iCrime, which I would call yet another 'crime porn' show. I've seen a few of these internationally where there's some host (either a female host being put on contract burn-off duty, or a military-looking guy with no sense of humor who has so much testosterone and muscle in him he's banned from even semi-pro pickleball) running down whatever's been submitted to their network, or from the "new crime + country we're in + caught on camera" YouTube search, and it's nothing but an hour of dread and terror with no levity to be found and it makes you want to build a bunker and hide from the world. If you need to die inside, look up an episode of C4 en alerta. This is exactly like that, and I don't know why they needed Elizabeth Vargas; they could literally pay a stripper cop to present this on his off-hours and there's no difference. It's just crime after crime after crime filled with terrible phone or security cameras, lots of bleeping and blurring, a bunch of has-been 'experts' who add nothing except crime tips you learned from SafetyPup in 1988, and occasional victim interviews. It's pretty much yet another Scott Sternberg Production done on the cheap which only exists to scare people and keep MyNet affiliates on the air for two hours a day. Plus for some reason the host segments are 'filmized', when it looks like they were filmed on a TracFone Android, and I've seen better greenscreening on Zoom calls. Also God, watching Elizabeth Vargas go from the ABC anchor desk, to 20/20, then to a failed AMW reboot and now this in four years...her agent not only needs to be fired, but have their license taken away. This show makes the $7 Bellum shows that never paid anybody look network-quality in comparison. We still have the Amazon infomercial Ring Nation coming, but at least they plan to have humorous segments and Wanda Sykes as a host. This has none of that to save it.

  10. I suppose, like the poor bedraggled guys in Samuel Beckett's "Waiting for Godot" who finally realized Godot was never showing up and headed home, we might as well get back on the road.. Too many canaries in the coalmine squawking too many different tunes. Not that I haven't thoroughly enjoyed this conversation. Not many people care about such things. After all, think of all the viewers who would never even notice a difference in graphics,

  11. KTVU has “Mornings on 2”, and KGO used “ABC7 Mornings” for a while. Probably didn’t want to muddle the market with the “Mornings” name

  12. Her contract was up in two weeks; they just spent money on more ad campaigns featuring her… have to imagine renewal talks were ongoing and not going in a direction she thought was worth it to stay at FOX5 and, after 40 years, probably thought this was a good time to step back and just enjoy life instead of starting over again somewhere else. As you pointed out, she’s retiring from the business at a relatively young age — and good for her! She’ll be able to spend time with family and friends, doing fun things on her schedule, while she has the energy and ability to do so. A true legend in local New York City news, Lori will definitely be missed by many viewers.

  14. Looks like the Eyewitness News name is staying, and it looks pretty good in the CBS font.

  15. I was actually watching that newscast yesterday and there was no mention of that name anywhere. It used the existing KPIX 5 News branding.

  16. Sounds like a waste for Elizabeth. I wonder how she'd do as a CourtTV anchor?

  17. Is there any evidence that they are adopting these names? Can they not use both their current names and the CBS NEWS (CITY NAME) concurrently. Use the current names for the traditional newscasts and the city name ones for digital/streaming/online and non-traditional newscasts like the ones on the sister stations.

  18. That’s a huge hit not only to FOX5 but to NY news as a whole. Best of luck to Lori in a well deserved retirement. As for her replacement I would assume it’s Teresa Priolo. Unless they bring in an outsider there really aren’t many options within the station that I can see filling the seat. Too bad things went down the wat they did with Christina Park she would’ve been a shoe in

  19. Teresa Priolo has been solid. Bianca is a candidate. Rosanna not moving back again.

  20. Nine News has announced they will launch a dedicated 6pm bulletin for Tasmania, to be based out of the state capital of Hobart. Nine doesn't own their Tasmanian station however, WIN is the affiliate. They're essentially outsourcing the production of local news to its network partner.

  22. Makes sense to me. There’s really no point in her being there until the day of the funeral.

  23. WAGA if Fox didn’t make them adopt the mandate they would’ve keep Eyewitness News. I’m some renanas they still kinda act like it sometimes. I wish FOX would give them permission to bring it back. Since they’ve de-emphasize the Boxkite look.

  24. Well, looks like I got that totally wrong then. In hindsight, they took her off the 6 even before maternity leave. EDIT: And they didn’t hire Christi Paul for nothing either.

  25. Despite changes at WSB-TV it still number 1 with still 50% share of the audience. They have 5 anchors for their main afternoon/evening newscast and that big! WSB ship isn't sunk just yet and WAGA has been chasing WSB-TV for years. There a few times WAGA has passed them, but as always WSB-TV rebounds. 46 will pass 11 up no doubt, but 46 needs stability! It can't be the revolving door it has been for the last two decades. WSB-TV been Action News for 50 years or close to it. WXIA has been 11Alive for 4+ decades WGCL/WANF still has their work cut out for them.

  26. Dominic Mancusco was the one responsible for Cleveland 19. Schrader was the one who dropped that doomed brand for 19 News.

  27. Of course, we also don't know what future owners of WSB and WXIA will do to their stations. WAGA has the stability advantage more than anything, even if it isn't a legacy station.

  29. Honestly, it wouldn’t surprise me if they beat channels 11, 5, AND 2 in the ratings. Their new image has me under the impression that ANF has Serious potential to be #1 in Atlanta for years, if not decades to come.

  31. Technically the first EWN station was what is now WKYC and they dropped it in 1965 when the FCC ordered the asset swap reversal between NBC and Westinghouse. I know common interpretation has KYW “moving” back to Philadelphia but that was borne out of Westinghouse wanting to erase any connection to NBC ownership of 3 and 1060 as soon as possible. By stark contrast, NBC tried to play off the “KY” name with WKYC and acknowledged Westinghouse’s prior ownership in Cleveland.

  34. Right? My DVR has the new branding. I was hoping a custom morning open and updated bug, yet they’re still using the KPIX 5 Bug. When they had a 10pm newscast pre pandemic, they at least had the KBCW bug instead. The only mention of CBS NEWS Bay Area Branding is only on the 6 and 7pm with the custom open “CBS NEWS Bay Area with Juliette Goodrich” but the DVR still says KPIX 5 News at 6pm

  36. Jennifer Hudson is definitely on Ellen's set. The main stage looks significantly different but they should have done more changes to the audience side of the studio to make it no look like Ellen. Three of Ellen's old EPs moved over to the show as well.

  37. Wow. Im pleasantly surprised how nice the new NBC 5 set looks. They actually put in some effort. Also they are using some camera pans and movement.(Lets see if it continues after today) I havent seen a full wide shot. But I do like the outcome. Its mostly screens as we thought but the surrounding bits are nice. The desk is great. And the lighting is typical NBC. Top Notch. I HATE THE VIEW OF MICHIGAN AVE BRIDGE. Its horrible and it bounces. NBC 5 uses possible the worst camera. Low Quality and bouncy. I feels like you are watching the news on a cruise ship. Horrible. I dont know why they like that shot but it needs to go
