A tad overlydramatic and tense. I personally don’t think that was a very good look for Mark Mester - he used the time to blast management with cryptic references to behind the scenes drama. Why not use the opportunity to look back on Lynette’s time and say thank you for her 24 years? Following his remarks, he’s not even letting his on-air colleagues speak without interrupting their thoughts. Ugh that was woeful. I understand the frustration but this is not a new phenomenon by any means. I love Lynette but in what industry would you be able to walk over to a direct competitor (KTLA Morning News vs Today in LA) and not be immediately shown the door? Hell most companies unceremoniously escort you out the door the instant you disclose that you’re leaving for a direct competitor.

WABC took Lori Stokes off the air but let her say goodbye in the last 10 minutes of the morning newscast.

An anchor got away with airing the station's dirty laundry not just on air, but also in the first four minutes of the A-block of a newscast? I'm sorry, but that's ridiculous. The news should always come first. I get that it's KTLA's style to be a little overly personal, but all this is doing is making the station look bad and making the situation worse. Trust me, nothing good comes out of calling attention to yourself in these situations. That is way over the top for what sounds like a fairly routine situation of an anchor not feeling valued and going to a competitor for a better offer at the end of a contract. Sucks that such a thing happens, but that happens in this business all the time.

Sounds like it, given that Mester was more than complementary toward Janene Drafs. The thing is, like it or not, immediate dismissals after signing with a competitor are the norm, regardless of the station owner. If Lynette wasn’t leaving voluntarily and was fired like Demetria Kalodimos and Lisa LaFlamme were, I’d have a lot more sympathy for Mark Mester doing what he did. That isn’t the case here. I’ll echo what @MorningNews said; one can understand frustrations with corporate, but there are much better ways to handle this.

I've aired my grievance before about Brenda Blackmon and Kaity, and I'll say something similar about Muller. It's a disappointment that his tenure in the evenings didn't last (while Tamsen Fadal's still there) and that he was pushed off to weekends (and she wasn't). They should've kept John on weekdays and demoted her. I previously found Tamsen an okay anchor, but now I must ask... What do they see in her? Why is she still where she is? And what is so important about her that the execs insist she's their main face of their news op -- when better is right in front of them? Does she have an ironclad contract or something?

If this turns out successful, I wonder if this experiment will transfer to other Gray markets?

I also saw Mark’s message at the top of the 8am hour. I was thinking, damn, this guy has balls, but also made me think, what an incredible local management team that allowed him to criticize them on their own air. Mark was right that, after 24 years, Lynette should’ve been allowed to say goodbye, but really, as someone commented earlier, she one leaves for a competitor in any industry, you’re generally shown the door pretty quickly. In his message, Mark eluded to something terrible that happened to Lynette which caused her to stop anchoring weeknights at 10 with Hal Fishman. Does anyone know what that was? I was a kid back then and always wondered why she was taken off the desk.

Almost two months later, turns out to be a correct prediction- KBJR/CBS3 morning newscasts are combined- Staff from both shows were merged, live reporting in the morning added, and KBJR is now using "F1RST ALERT" Weather branding with the old KBJR/Quincy graphics. That said, looking at their website, the morning newscast will rebrand as "Northern News Now" at 5a and 6a. Evening newscasts appear untouched for now with the exception of weather on CBS3 using the KBJR graphics- otherwise the CBS3 show still has their own branding.

No reason to work into your 60s/70s if you don't have to. She has accomplished a lot in her career so, in her eyes, there's nothing else left to achieve.

Her contract was up in two weeks; they just spent money on more ad campaigns featuring her… have to imagine renewal talks were ongoing and not going in a direction she thought was worth it to stay at FOX5 and, after 40 years, probably thought this was a good time to step back and just enjoy life instead of starting over again somewhere else. As you pointed out, she’s retiring from the business at a relatively young age — and good for her! She’ll be able to spend time with family and friends, doing fun things on her schedule, while she has the energy and ability to do so. A true legend in local New York City news, Lori will definitely be missed by many viewers.

Wow good luck to Lori; what a huge loss for NY News. Teresa is the natural choice since she's been filling in a lot more frequently lately. She's definitely main-anchor material despite (as someone pointed out) being demoted unreasonably. They could of course try to look externally too; i'm sure there will be an announcement soon

Unless they bring in an outsider there really aren’t many options within the station that I can see filling the seat. JHud and Sherri...great shows, thank goodness. Hopefully they'll move on from 'another Wendy' talk real fast, because they're none of that. The complete dud for sure this year is iCrime, which I would call yet another 'crime porn' show. I've seen a few of these internationally where there's some host (either a female host being put on contract burn-off duty, or a military-looking guy with no sense of humor who has so much testosterone and muscle in him he's banned from even semi-pro pickleball) running down whatever's been submitted to their network, or from the "new crime + country we're in + caught on camera" YouTube search, and it's nothing but an hour of dread and terror with no levity to be found and it makes you want to build a bunker and hide from the world. If you need to die inside, look up an episode of C4 en alerta. This is exactly like that, and I don't know why they needed Elizabeth Vargas; they could literally pay a stripper cop to present this on his off-hours and there's no difference. It's just crime after crime after crime filled with terrible phone or security cameras, lots of bleeping and blurring, a bunch of has-been 'experts' who add nothing except crime tips you learned from SafetyPup in 1988, and occasional victim interviews. It's pretty much yet another Scott Sternberg Production done on the cheap which only exists to scare people and keep MyNet affiliates on the air for two hours a day. Plus for some reason the host segments are 'filmized', when it looks like they were filmed on a TracFone Android, and I've seen better greenscreening on Zoom calls. Also God, watching Elizabeth Vargas go from the ABC anchor desk, to 20/20, then to a failed AMW reboot and now this in four years...her agent not only needs to be fired, but have their license taken away. This show makes the $7 Bellum shows that never paid anybody look network-quality in comparison. We still have the Amazon infomercial Ring Nation coming, but at least they plan to have humorous segments and Wanda Sykes as a host. This has none of that to save it.

I’m watching right now on WCAU and am enjoying it. It’s a fast paced newscast. It’s 12:25 and they’ve cut in for “The Line Up” with Sheila Watko.

One thing regarding anchors... To an NBC News Viewer - they should all be recognizable. Vicky Nguyen is on the Today Show as the consumer correspondent. Morgan Radford is a veteran correspondent and occasional guest co-host on weekend-today. Aaron Gilchrist is the newest to the NBC family, while Kate Snow is another veteran who anchored on MSNBC daily in the past and now is on Weekend Nightly News. While i have not see Aaron and Kate together, i will say that I don't think Vicky and Morgan have any chemistry. It would almost be better if they moved Philip Mena off Early today and paired him with Morgan or even made Steven Romo an anchor and paired him with one of them. Vicky and Morgan are great, but just not a good pair. Another idea would be to pair Morgan with Jose Diaz Balart. The issue there would be location as Jose is based in Miami. Then MSNBC can re-align its daytime line-up and perhaps include Vicky Nguyen there? Or Swap Vicky with Morgan and have Morgan anchor an hour of MSNBC Reports...

Now, all four of Cleveland's news stations are doing newscasts at 4PM. With WOIO on at 3pm, I wouldn't be surprised if more stations start at 3 as well.

The show is so dry it might as well be Early Today. That's fine at 3:30am in the morning when you have no expectations, but not as a mid-day program. I'm all for a basic news rundown show but I didn't need it to be this basic and unchanged from the streaming feed where you can just see the affiliates watching and being like 'you know what? We agree Irma, give us Days back!' and seeing people flip over to a more dynamic GMA3.

That video background has a little too much depth, too much going on. Again it's just more of the same: Trump, inflation, COVID and now the Queen. In this era of news saturation, it's every station clamoring to cover the same thing rather than aiming for some streak of uniqueness. I can't act like Days of Our Lives was in the best condition before it got taken off the air, but it will be missed. I wonder how long Dateline at 1 PM will last.

John should've never left 6 and 10pm. The station has gone downhill since October 2010 when Kaity and Jim were demoted in favor of a solo anchor being Jodi Applegate herself. Since then, the station has been suffering through a lot of changes that were not necessary. When John rejoined in 2014, rating started to increase beating WNBC and WNYW.

There's such a thing as over exposure. If I have an anchor team that I reguard as my best, I wouldn't want them on every living newscast to the point where the audience gets tired of seeing them. I don't even find Kori and Tamsen to be that strong of an anchor team to be the lead duo. Going down this road again but Kaity Tong should still be on weekday evenings & nights, especially given that Mr. G is still there. The 10 PM slot has not recovered quality wise from her and Watkins' departures. PIX 11 needs a more diverse anchor line up in the evenings, and a less cheap looking aesthetic. They have some things going for them like an authentic New York local feel, (something WCBS lacks), but there's still major room for improvement.

Lifelong Minnesotan here- even if you are correct, they will take a sweet long time to kill off the best known branding/call letters in the state. They had the opportunity to unveil the CBSN MN brand to the tens of thousands who walk by their booth at the state fair and every sign, banner, and giveaway had the classic WCCO logo on it. Along with the billboards, you don’t spend that kind of money on promos and giveaways (even if they are paper fans and reusable grocery bags) to flip it right away.

Just because someone is on the weekends, it doesn't always mean it's a demotion. KTLA's Lynette Romero has co-anchored the KTLA 5 Weekend Morning News for quite some time now. Most will remember, Lynette was brought in from Denver to co-anchor weeknights with the legendary Hal Fishman. That pairing always seemed odd and the chemistry was weird. For many years after she was moved off of weekday nights, Lynette served as a GA reporter (which she does a great job). She found her stride again as a strong anchor on the weekends where she can show her personality. She's also a great fill-in on the weekdays when the A/B anchors are out. Also, lets not forget Kathy Vara at KNBC. She was brought in during the mid 1990s to anchor next to Kent Shockneck on Today in LA. They were a strong team for many years. They domimated ratings at the time as well. Kathy left for KABC for a short time and has since returned to KNBC as weekend co-anchor. Again, Kathy does a fantastic job and knows the market. She's been a great go-to person when news breaks on the weekend (OC church shooting earlier this year). Should Colleen Williams retire or Carolyn Johnson choose to move on to something else, Kathy would definitely be the #1 choice to fill either seat if I were the ND.
