  1. Personally, I don't really consider a Trump rally worthy of breaking news or live coverage, in my opinion, since my consensus of Donald Trump as president is... well... to put it nicely, the opposite of thumbs up. Back on topic, NewsNation has a group of former Fox News people at the helm, including Bill Shine. Of course they're going to go to live coverage of a Trump rally! It's not that surprising. And of course, the Trump rally is within news programming. Would they be doing that if it wasn't? Yes. Any other news besides "You-know-who's Cavalcade of You-know-whats" that actually do warrant live coverage outside of their news hours? Not a chance.

  2. Better question: Does anyone actually care?

  3. Look, I’m no Nexstar fan, but I wouldn’t blame the entire company over one idiot. Unless he exhibited the same behavior at KTVI (which we have no evidence of), they have no control over an individual employee acting like an abusive moron at another workplace. Even in that instance, most of the blame would go to local/regional management for their negligence, not corporate. I’m confident that KTVI will handle this appropriately (i.e., dump him).

  4. The station owns the airtime and decides what they do with it. If they decide to let an anchor use it to say goodbye, then great. If they don't, then that's their decision too. Different stations and different circumstances could lead to different decisions, but ultimately, nobody is owed any airtime. You'd also be surprised to find out how little viewers actually notice or care if an anchor 'disappears.' Yes, many might notice, but most don't. What everyone in this line of work should know is that everyone, from the GM, to the anchors, to the part-time video editor, is replaceable. I am far from a Nexstar apologist, and I'm glad I don't work for that company, but unless there's a huge backstory that we're not aware of, then it sounds like a lot of the on-air people at KTLA need to be reined in and have their egos put in check. I get that KTLA is all about personality, and to a degree, that's fine, but anchors are principally hired to do a job, which is to do the news. They're not hired to do a talk or reality show, and they're not hired to sell products or a lifestyle on Instagram. It wouldn't surprise me if Mark Mester just anchored his last newscast on KTLA. What he just did is stupid. I highly doubt the GM would have approved of what he said, but the fact that he referenced her in it is enough to make it appear like she did, and that's just stupid on his part. He just put a target on his own back by doing that. I get that he must feel like some special connection with their viewers has been violated, but being the weekend AM anchor at a big market station (or an anchor at any station) is not that big of a deal. Ultimately, it's management calling the shots, and management hire people to do the news and also not make the company look bad.

  5. It actually checks out in Boston too. WSBK has WBZ News, a Jeopardy rerun, the Phantom Gourmet, and comedy reruns scheduled for Monday night. I was curious to know of a source because I haven’t seen any announcements, although I suppose this isn’t the type of thing most people will actually notice/care about.

  6. Almost two months later, turns out to be a correct prediction- KBJR/CBS3 morning newscasts are combined- Staff from both shows were merged, live reporting in the morning added, and KBJR is now using "F1RST ALERT" Weather branding with the old KBJR/Quincy graphics. That said, looking at their website, the morning newscast will rebrand as "Northern News Now" at 5a and 6a. Evening newscasts appear untouched for now with the exception of weather on CBS3 using the KBJR graphics- otherwise the CBS3 show still has their own branding.

  7. The latest Nexstar dumpster fire. With that audio leaked and the language he used, it would be hard to imagine him back at the anchor desk. He (allegedly) swore 40 times in 4 minutes, saying some really awful things to her.

  9. Well, it took them long enough, but NewsNation is indeed airing the state funeral of Queen Elizabeth II like the other news outlets instead of doing what they always do when it comes to huge breaking news (miss it habitually, which I honestly was expecting them to do since it's been made clear up until now that they couldn't do anything right).

  10. The 1pm hour is an odd time for affiliates to fill with live news cut-ins. The morning crew normally will have left and the evening crew not yet in. Seems like stations would likely be prerecording something from their morning/noon team...

  12. I hope something; CBS does so little regarding WSBK you've had to get very exact on Google to find a TV schedule for the TV station, not the World SuperBike circuit, or for WBFS, to avoid links about a Wii ROM file format. Still, better that filler programming than Chicago/Dateline reruns on MNTV competing against Chicago/Dateline reruns in syndication/cable/Ion/True Crime Network.

  17. This video appears to have the full open which seems similar to the leaked video. This also makes me wonder why it took so long for WCBS to have a Sunday morning politics/public affairs show. I guess they did briefly with Exit 10/55 on WLNY many years ago. WABC has Up Close/Here and Now, WPIX had PIX News closeup and now PIX on politics, however I think WNBC lacks a Sunday AM politics show as does WNYW.

  18. Marcia Kramer's new show The Point, looks like it is using the new graphics. The show has the new CBS News New York name and has the new L3's. Below is a YouTube clip of the new look.

  20. Longtime New York City anchor Lori Stokes announced on Instagram that she will retire from television news on Sept. 30th. She's currently the 5, 6 and 10pm news anchor at WNYW after her long tenure at WABC-TV. https://www.instagram.com/p/CifcsIpgNcB/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link

  21. And the winds of change continue blowing at WAVY, as longtime morning anchor Don Roberts is retiring, with September 30 as his last day. https://www.wavy.com/news/local-news/end-of-an-era-wavys-don-roberts-is-retiring/

  24. Put on all the news you want, but job candidates aren't magically appearing. Gray was trying to find people willing to work remotely to put news on at KVVU. I don't know if anyone took them up on their offer.

  26. In this age of being connected all the time, I'm sure there's a plan in place to get a hold of the big 3 anchors. I believe in the last decade, NBCs Lester Holt was out of the country on vacation and flew back to NY to cover the story. Unfortunately, I can't recall which "big" story is was. Most network anchors will usually end their vacation and come back to ensure they are the face of the network's coverage.

  27. It's market 204 I believe, so we can't hold them to the same standard. Any old Gray set could find its way up there to be reused.

  29. Keep in mind, the era a lot of these are coming from was when it was still entirely possible for a station's in-house graphics department to create an entire news graphics package on their own. It wouldn't surprise me at all if that's where a lot of these unknown ones came from, especially the larger stations (i.e. WPIX and WGN) You see a lot of TVbD knockoffs because a lot of stations looked at their work and went "we can do that ourselves for much less". You don't see it much anymore because most stations barely have a graphics department, and unless you really like working in local TV, most decent designers jump ship to different lines of work.

  31. Its usually an afternoon or midday crew who would do it since having a morning team doing it would be so much longer of a day for them. For my NBC station WTVJ, the midday team at noon and 4pm do the live cut-ins.

  32. NewsNation ran the entire speech from former President Trump at a rally in Ohio this past weekend. This is the same network that didn't cover a lot of breaking news events.
