These are all non-profits, so they are much more willing to make it public domain. Nexstar, on the other hand, wants to line their pockets with money because capitalism. Just how it works . Also, we have this magical thing called the internet, making it available for anyone with a connection to watch.3 points

It wouldn't surprise me for Nexstar to have kept it to themselves and relied on NewsNation to fill in the rest of Ohio and the nation, because it's a such a great news channel with millions of viewers....right?3 points

Not quite; airing the debate on WSTR was out of necessity, not for “public interest” reasons. Nexstar doesn’t own a station in Cincinnati, and had to partner w/ Sinclair in that market to ensure its debate could be seen in every Ohio market. That said, it’s really not a big deal IMHO. Is it any different than WABC/WPVI having exclusivity over a New Jersey gubernatorial debate? I actually don’t mind Nexstar doing this. Just like ABC in NJ, Nexstar has the rights to host this debate, so why wouldn’t they air it on their platforms? If anything, airing it in all of their markets broadens the reach of the debate, as it now airs on stations that may not otherwise have carried it. And what does it have to do w/ NewsNation? These debates are being moderated by local anchors/reporters, not Chris Cuomo (and thank God for that).2 points

Agreed. How Kristine Sorenson was ever promoted to a weekday anchor job, and still has it nearly 20 years later is beyond me.2 points

I also noticed on the News Music Search Archive that KOLD-TV 13 in Tucson, AZ used TM's classic "Spirit" music package back in 1987. However, I looked on YouTube and could not find a video using the theme. A newscast, news open or anything would be good. Also, I came across some rare newsbreaks anchored by J.D. Miles over former CBS affiliate KLMG in Longview/Tyler, TX who was a news anchor for the station. The KLMG newsbreaks can be found below. Not only did J.D. Miles work at KLMG, he also worked as an anchor for WJHL in Johnson City, Tennessee. You can watch the WJHL clips below. Not only did J.D. Miles anchor the news, there were even some outtakes and promos too. See those below. And Steve Pickett worked as a reporter for KFSN-TV in Fresno, CA back in the late 1980s. Check out his reel below.2 points

That still leaves out Lima, Toledo, and Zanesville. Not to mention Marietta, which is covered in the Parkersburg WV market.1 point

I can't understand station groups keeping a debate to themselves; in Wisconsin the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association organizes the debate, with either Milwaukee PBS or PBS Wisconsin hosting it, and it basically being open to everyone to take; WVCY, the Milwaukee religious station, even broadcasts it both on TV and radio, about the only time they're neutral (though with a strong 'vote how God would want you to' message at the end). And Nextar's requirements for debate coverage? How any media org accepts them is just beyond stupid. They basically read 'radio can rot', and the big annoyance in campaign ads, where a clean feed isn't available so a station gets dragged through the mud with some PAC, is just completely self-inflicted idiocy.1 point

I'm sure getting Aaron back on the air at WRC was part of it (he's much more recognizable locally than Vicky Nguyen), but the promos are basically saying they're starting with the "News that Matters from around the world" at 3 leading to the "News that Matters on your street" at 4 (I don't recall if they actually used "News that Matters", but that's the general gist) - I'm surprised they're not promoting the non-stop news lineup from 3 until 7:30 (yet...)1 point

Forgot about Shumway now that he’s in the morning. As for Highfield, he’s good, but he doesn’t fall in the same category as Rice, Stacy Smith, or Patrice King Brown.1 point

I have some WCNC clips from 1994, but they got purged by Vimeo - will have to hunt them down and re-post... Jim1 point

One month in to the new season, and WRC 4 Washington DC is already futzing with its schedule: Dateline and NBC News Daily have switched places (Dateline now at noon and NBC News Daily now at 3pm). Access and Kelly kept their 2022-23 season timeslots (1pm and 2pm, respectively), so far... Jim1 point

And this is where I present to you this: https://newsblues.com/2022/07/15/source-megyn-kelly-not-going-to-newsnation/ Megyn Kelly has decided that she will not be joining NewsNation. The date of the article linked is July 15, 2022. Again, would've been mentioned sooner, but because NewsNation is the embodiment of irrelevance...1 point

No ass kissing from Chris and didn't have his bro former governor of NY Andrew on the show LOL since Andrew needs a job after all. I wasn't going to watch Chris's show I didn't watch him on CNN when he had his bro on nightly being on his jock strap with softball questions. His promos suck for his show should've kept news of the day at 8PM or hired Megyn Kelly she would've gotten better ratings than Chris.1 point

Yeah, I think do Fri & Sat nights during the winter, spring & summer for Sat nights. I'd only do 2 nights and not go for 7 as One Chi does quite well for NBC on Wed nights.1 point

I was happy that Nexstar likes Walker & it's spinoff, Kung FU, Superman & Lois. I hope they keep Stargirl, All American, Nancy Drew as Nancy & her Drew Crew have more story to tell. I don't see Fox having a problem with Nexstar owning The CW in my opinion they will get a deal done whenever Nexstar has to renew with Fox.1 point

I didn’t get it at first either, and I’ll try to simplify what I think they’re doing as best I can. CBS knows that local news is more identifiable w/ viewers than the national network. That’s a problem for them, given that CBS national newscasts don’t perform well in the ratings. By slapping the “CBS News” name onto local newscasts, the CBS News brand effectively becomes more regional. The hope is that viewers identify their local newscasts with CBS News as a whole, and that they stay w/ their CBS News station for national news rather than flipping the channel. CBS also wants to push local/national streaming, given the rise of OTT services, and also wants to integrate the operations of local streaming services. The best way they can do that is by having everyone brand around the network, rather than have the channel number on TV, the CBSN brand for streaming news, etc. The current “awkward muddle” of brandings is because they’re transitioning. In NY, I’ve seen more references to CBS New York than CBS 2 in station promos. I have no idea if this would actually accomplish the first goal of increasing viewership, and I don’t see myself wanting to watch the CBS Evening News in my market just because WCBS doesn’t call itself CBS2 anymore. However, it would accomplish the goal of integrating the network in a streaming-heavy world.1 point

Really? This looks like a tiny virtual set up for now. I have no problem IMO with how 3K looks, however, at this point they will not be making changes (including the desk which is what most don't like) since they will be moving to half of 3B sometime next year. I suspect some of what WMAQ just did will filter into both the WNBC and Telemundo 47 sets that are relocating to 3B.1 point

Wonder if they want to have one of the western feeds since Aaron anchors there. Surprised they didn’t follow the other O&Os in moving Kelly to 3pm (and have Dateline at 2pm, Access at 1pm, and NBCND at 12noon). I must say with regards to NBC News Daily that I’m surprised they don’t have their strongest anchors (Kate and Aaron) anchoring the “East coast” feeds.0 points

John Shumway and David Highfield are still there. How much longer that lasts remains to be seen, but as @Tylersaid, all the other greats have retired.0 points

I thought NewsNation was rumored to be hiring Megyn already? That would be awkward to have both her and Cuomo on the show after she blasted one of his segments on the opening night of his show.0 points

They could do Friday, but Saturday nights with Notre Dame (and the Big Ten in the future), along with SNL live coast-to-coast, it's impossible there. I'd say more Tuesday since that's a struggle night for them, and Wednesday and Thursday are currently Dick Wolf territory with the Chicagos and L&O shows (I have no idea how they balance that out with three hours on each unless a show goes on the block at the end of the season).0 points
