After three days of watching the show (WFH life...), I have to say I think Mornings at 10 is a really solid hour. I really like the vibe of "it's 10am and the city is humming along, let's check in with our teams across the city" for more informal live reports (e.g. helicopter report of a protest in the Financial District, or a reporter standing by at City Hall), followed by some live topical discussion over b-roll, lighter banter, and weather and interview segments. A lot of the other personality-driven lighter local programs in the market (NY Living on WPIX, NY Live on WNBC) rely more on in-studio interviews/segments, recorded reports, with lives relegated to Ben Aaron-style goofy site visits, so the energy of Mornings at 10 definitely stands out. Personality wise, I really think Sam has the best presence, I think Shirleen and Mike seem a little more wooden with the banter but maybe they'll warm up with time. I would have picked Sandra or Michelle over Shirleen for this role personally, but overall the team is fine. My one complaint is that the interview segments for the first two days were softball discussions with Eric Adams and the Chancellor, which I think could have had a bit more WNYC-style rigor, but that's just me. It didn't feel like the type of interview that would be on Up Close, so it did feel pretty inconsistent with the EWN brand.3 points

Really liking the new graphics and scorebug for Monday Night Football on ESPN. Not only did they go back to the neon feel, but it's much more improved and cleaned up. And on top of that, they removed the yellow venom which is a step up. Not surprised tho that they kept the same bottom bar layout taking up the whole screen. Given that they will broadcast Super Bowl LXI in 2027 and since they have a common pattern of changing up their look every 4 years, it wouldn't surprise me if they wait until that Super Bowl to make any dramatic changes to the scorebug as well as their entire graphics look.2 points

But Worldwide Pants produced several weeks of guest hosts early in 2015 before Corden took over (but not the week of episodes from New York including the legendary Adam Pally ep or the special late episodes of The Talk). Edit: A search of the trademark database says that Worldwide Pants still owns the Late Show trademarks As for Pluto TV repeats, there are rights issues with the musical guests (there is an official Letterman YouTube channel with choice segments and interviews dating back to the NBC era).2 points

Should have definitely been Michelle for this show. Would have truly set it apart. Shirleen is stiff and has always come across as fake. Put Michelle in that chair, you have a show that would actually be a true NY version of “Live”. Sam brings years of hosting experience and is solid in his role. Don’t forget that before he moved to GMA, he would often fill-in for Regis on LIVE.2 points

Totally agree. Sadly, there really aren't that many on-air talent left that even remotely have the connection/association with the KGTV of the late 80s-early 00s when they were on top of their game. This whole celebration seems like it was done in haste and on the cheap. Let's get a couple of sound bites, some b-roll and a few cheap decorations/logos and call it a day.1 point

KGTV did a poor job on that half hour special. It seemed like it was about Kimberly Hunt special and only 1 min bit of the previous on air talents which they did poorly on.1 point

Not necessarily. The show didn't launch til Tuesday, and I don't think he was on on Monday, at all, this week.1 point

PlutoTV has a Johnny Carson Channel, why they haven't struck a deal with WWP/Letterman for is tenure of Late Show episodes and Snyder/Kilborn/Ferguson LLS is beyond me. Yes... They have to scrub the titles to "Letterman" like they did with "Carson", everything else should be playable for the most part.1 point

New graphics and music package are coming soon - no new set though. That will be when the move to Hudson Square is complete.1 point

And let's add the (not quite newscast, but locally produced) New York Live at 11:30am on WNBC. It's not half bad and I would take that as a full hour at 2pm instead of Dateline. I'm glad to have Sam in a hosting role. SPECULATION AHEAD: I'm sure Sam would love to be back on GMA, but since they have someone, this is a great slot for his personality. Morning meteorologist and Co host on the #1 station. I definitely would have updated the set and graphics to debut a new show, but as others have said, they plan on moving HQ so at least update the graphics. Hopefully 7 doesn't revert to a traditional newscast. In this saturated market, format diversity is needed. Ironically, light news is itself becoming saturated as every station in NYC does it now, lol.1 point

I understand what @MorningNews is saying. In the NYC market, these types of newscasts really do not successfully exist outside of GDNY and, like what they said, WABC could put a repeat of the 6am show on at 10am and the ratings would be fine. So, you have to wonder, if that’s the case, how long will station management continue pouring resources into a show that would do well and be profitable regardless of the format? That said, I think the consensus here is that this is a nice and fresh attempt at something different for WABC. Based off the first show, it’s being executed well. Hopefully it’s so successful that the format sticks and becomes an outlier compared to the traditional newscasts.1 point

I think Mike and Shirleen make a good pairing overall, and I think adding Sam as a 'third anchor' of sorts was a very smart move due to his credentials/name recognition. In terms of light newscasts, there seem to be quite a variety now: -CBS 2 News at 9 with Cindy Hsu (more of a 'positive' newscast; not a huge fan of the forced back and forth with weather, like when the anchor would ask a question to segue weather reports instead of just a normal weather broadcast) -New York Living (although that entire show completely changed vibes to be way lighter fare when they replaced Chris with Alex, but I will acknowledge Marysol and Alex gel very well) -GDNY 9am hour (although this is an extension of GDNY it can be viewed as a new show somewhat) But back to EWN I'm starting to think Dani is there to fill the void whenever Sam can't be, since I think* he takes off every Friday? So in that case, it makes sense to market the newscast as 4 people as opposed to 3 when 1 is consistently off on a certain day. It seems like they are slowly preparing for the new look but it will debut sometime this Fall, (sigh) hopefully.1 point

Couldn't agree more with what Vlad said. It's exactly what the 10am "news" show should be, hosts are great, glad to see Sam there the whole time. Well executed by WABC.1 point

Currently watching the show and streaming it at work, it is very different and refreshing. More in-depth focus on issues and it looks great! Chemistry is great amongst the hosts. For a change, they are not using the Eyewitness News theme Package. Still has the same ole 2016 graphics package with some new gold and yellow morning elements to it. Definitely not the traditional broadcast that we are used to seeing. They have a cute little Circle 7 desk in front of the main desk and the backdrop has been changed. The new opening sequence is really nice they still are on the Talent Open, and they also have a new theme too, not Eyewitness News at all. I think it's a nice effort and is quite refreshing and that is essentially what I was pretty much asking for in a few of the previous posts and they are delivering that. Kudos to WABC for making this show different. Let's see how what everyone thinks! Sam Champion is quite the host! So nice to see him not only doing the weather but also anchoring the show so good for him on that.1 point

What reason do we have to think Sony is all that upset (not happy)? It's Just a simple business decision. Sliding back Kimmel, even under the current strike situation, further than it already may be if MNF runs long, is likewise not realistic. A couple of episodes of a game show airing late at night really isn't that big a deal.1 point

But where earlier in the day on most stations? They have full schedules for the most part. Yes, some here and there have Daytime Jeopardy. But if we’re talking the O&Os as an example, there isn’t space. Wheel isn’t going to bump the news, the View or Tamron. That’s just not reality. Could the O&Os make better use of—and promote—Localish for these kinds of things? Sure. They’ve used it for overflow before…and sometimes rely on the overnight slots. Both have their pluses and minuses. It’s just Wheel of Fortune. It’s an important piece of their schedule, but when you have more programming than hours in the day, something has to give.1 point

Maybe if the changing newscast blog was still a thing, people wouldn’t be getting things wrong, and you wouldn’t have to shame them for doing so.1 point

Probably mentioned here already, but for the first time as my memory serves me stemming from childhood, Dr. Phil will not be on the WCBS lineup. Judge Judy is pushed back to 3 o'clock with Hot Bench returning to the channel and taking the 4 PM slot. I'm surprised they didn't put Hot Bench at 3 and leave Judge Judy as the lead in to the 5:00 news. TV passport also shows Dr Phil reruns popping up at 3:00 p.m. on WPIX! I see family feud now on the WNYW line up at 6:30 after the news. This is a good move.1 point

Whenever I was sick at home during my elementary and middle school years, The Price is Right was one of my favorite shows to watch. With his natural charisma, sharp wit, electric personality and almost-instant icon status, he was one of the reasons (if not the main reason) I watched and why the show was (and still is) an enduring hit of American television and touchstone of American popular culture. He (like Betty White) at 99 lived a long, beautiful life that will forever live on through his incredible career, the show and both of their enduring legacies. Condolences to his family. May he rest in peace.1 point

Put baseball back on local broadcast stations again & add a streaming partner. Broadcast worked for years before the RSN's, it can work again.1 point

Curious to see what Gray's plans for the station are.... Could Telemundo Cincinnati be in the future? Maybe even something related to 3.0. it's basically been a subchannel repository for the last decade or so after losing out on the CW to WKRC 12.2. Speaking of WKRP, when's the last time that show's been shown on TV? At least the DVD release restored a lot of the original music that was stripped from later TV airings.... And one last thing, my fellow babies....1 point

If y'all think one of Byron Allen's shows airing for short time on one broadcast network is either a cause for alarm or a giant joke (or both LBH), then you'll get a big kick out of Allen himself showing interest in buying another broadcast network-- ABC (along with FX and National Geographic). https://tvline.com/news/abc-byron-allen-sale-talks-fx-national-geographic-disney-1235043961/0 points

My one gripe is that they're using 2 different extended fonts on the scorebar. The scores use a more traditional, Helvetica-ish font, while the down indicator pulls from the MNF word mark font set. I do wish the game clock was a more standard width option, or if they eliminated the line between the game and play clocks. It all just feels a bit crowded.0 points
-
I like the overall motif, but the wideness of all of the fonts makes me feel like I'm looking at a 4:3-designed graphic stretched to 16:9.0 points
