  1. KAIT-TV in Jonesboro, AR made the switch to GrayONE today, and have replaced Inergy with Aerial.

  2. There can be an argument made for both cases. The argument in favor of bringing in the A team is that more people will be tuning into the news than usual on a Sunday, so the station wishes to highlight the main team (in this case Kristine/Maurice and Bill/Sade) as opposed to its weekend team. On the other hand, it can be a bit dramatic and unnecessary for stations to go out of their way to bring in a main anchor (like having Mike Marza come in when Joe and Tonya could've handled it just fine, same with bringing in Kristine and Maurice as opposed to Jessica Moore). I think WPIX handled it well at 10pm, Kaity anchored solo as usual but Dan was brought in not as coanchor, but as contributor to handle live interviews.

  4. Not just the CBSEN set but the Washington newsroom looks amazing too, especially when they show the various angles of it! Honestly, now that you say it, CBS does have the best look of the big three as far as the main newscasts' go, having great graphics and a great set, not only that but using that set with many shots. WNT does not even use it's set, simply using that one OTS shot the entire time and the graphics are outdated. NN has alright graphics, not the best but better than WNT but 1A brings it down.

  5. The novelty of main anchors being on sunday for a major historical event is certainly worth a note. Keeping talk of other stations in their respective threads is a fair call. BUT To be fair, Now Bergen asked where CBS's main anchors were which drew comparisons to other stations for a context based response to their answer.

  6. Weekend teams are fine. I suppose station thinking is that bringing in a primary anchor like Maurice on the weekend signals urgency and importance to viewers. Similarly, on the national level, Kristine is a capable anchor but Norah was brought in eventually so the leading face of the network could be with viewers through this big story. Having Norah (and Lester and David) in on a Sunday signals that the situation is huge. Anywho...back to WCBS before the admins come.

  7. I believe they did after the assassination attempt on the former president.

  8. I feel bad for KFOX and especially KDBC-TV. The station really didn't deserve the treatment that it would get by Sinclair. Like KDBC had to deal with all of the problems since Pappas tried to make the station an Azteca America O&O (which is odd, because, isn't El Paso near the Mexico Border and some of the Mexican stations near El Paso airs Azteca programming?) which led to controversy about where would CBS go, then they aquired KDBC after Channel 4 continued with the affiliation with CBS. Then the deal with the Communications Corporation of America and KTSM-TV until 2013 when Nexstar aquired ComCorp and Sinclair bought some of the former Pappas stations. With that decreasing the chances to compete with KTSM and KVIA-TV as well as the Spanish-language stations. Also, I don't know if ARC Mornings is like Fox and Friends just for Sinclair.

  9. KDBC has suffered for years even before Sinclair bought them. Pappas tried to turn them into an Azteca America O&O and the viewer outcry made them re-up with CBS. Then they signed the SSA with KTSM until Sinclair purchased KFOX from Cox and then acquired KDBC. Thanks to the market, KDBC has been duopoly bait for a long time given it's location on the Mexican border where the traditional english-language stations can play second fiddle to the spanish language ones. So esssentially, KFOX is getting gutted by Sinclair and KDBC has to suffer alongside it. And this supposed ARC Mornings.... is it basically Sinclair's version of Fox & Friends?

  10. Not everyone likes staid. Awesome. Some do. Equally awesome. Some like both each in their own way. Some hate both. There isn’t one “right” way to do something that is inherently subjective, no matter what some of my old professors preached.

  11. I agree that CBS has the best evening set of the three, but I'd say the previous morning studio at the Broadcast Center looked better. Back on topic, the area CBS still lacks aesthetically is graphics (across the board). If that improves, Evenings News will hands down be the best looking of the three broadcasts.

  12. With all the breaking news Mike Marza was brought in to anchor with Joe Torres tonight. And before anyone says anything about commenting anchor coverage. Tanya Rivero (who is the new weekend anchor with Joe) was also in studio covering the breaking developments and seemed to be the “3rd” anchor for the Biden coverage.

  15. Seems to be an official change. Their website may be gray.tv, but all over the website, they refer to themselves as Gray Media. Not sure when this was done though...

  16. Among the reasons others have listed...Bigger fish in a small pond. You can go from being a network correspondent to a local anchor (bigger role, smaller environment). They could be doing it to stay closer to family. Plus national correspondents or anchors tend to be under more public scrutiny. Tabloids in their business for personal narrative. Local can equal less attention and sometimes less drama.

  17. Several network correspondents have left their jobs for anchor roles at local stations in major markets. The pay is comparable or in most cases better, hours are predictable, and there’s no travel required. For plenty of people, especially those with families, all of those things can be more important that just having a national profile. Bill Ritter, Liz Cho, and Rob Nelson all did this, leaving ABC News to join WABC as anchors. Before returning to ABC News, Whit Johnson had left CBS News for an anchor/reporter role at KNBC. There are countless other examples.

  18. Surprised she choose to leave network CBS in her case I’ll never understand journalists who leave the highest level ever in broadcast journalism to downgrade to local. That like Leaving Yale for Ohio State. Very few make it to the national level to unless you’re leaving to retire, going down is always a bad move because you’ll never get an invitation back. Very few journalists have been able to leave the network for local news then return to network for another stint Don Dahler is a good example with his brief stint at WCBS before returning to CBS News. Yea I get NY is market #1 but I think that’s a downgrade to go down.

  19. Tanya Rivero was just introduced as their new weekend evening anchor by Bill Ritter before she reported a story. She had most recently been at CBS and previously anchored ABC WNN (World News Now), which Liz Cho once anchored many years ago, (obviously). I still remember being pleasantly surprised when she showed up on air on the local news.

  23. At least in NJ, News12 is live only a few hours a day now. Altice has killed it. Hyper local? Not so much anymore. And they are now pushing News12 streaming, which is only NY news. Pass.

  24. Different level but the absolute worst is news 12.. even their “main faces” don’t stay long anymore. We all know what has happened there in the last few years but it seems like it’s even worse now.

  25. They're in an adjacent market and WITI was a sister station to them until 2020 (even discounting she came in a year later you don't exactly sever sister station relationships that quickly), so they probably have more than a glancing familiarity with her work.

  27. KDBC/KFOX in El Paso are ending most local newscasts. The former’s 10pm is staying for now along with some simulcasts of KFOX’s newscasts on KDBC.

  28. WAGA's Sharon Lawson is leaving Good Day Atlanta after 7 years. The reasoning is not clear but her Instagram post says it was her decision. The Atlanta Journal Constitution article notes that two other veteran newscasters left the station after accepting company buyouts. Sucks! Sharon was okay. Welp...this is a creative way to reach a younger audience lol.
