  1. That is so similar to what they currently have it could be that “they’re the same picture” meme from The Office

  2. "Ciritical" may be a bit of a subjective word but otherwise this is a pretty well known fact. Just because it doesn't fit someone's narrative doesn't make it an opinion or a bias. The fact that others reported the story without this fact doesn't prove your point. Context is important in any story, and perhaps leaving that important piece of information out of stories could be considered journalistic malpractice.

  3. It’s likely just a matter of hitting the right preset button (clouds, rain, snow, etc..). Doubtful it’s any more complex than that.

  4. I appreciate your affinity for NBC and USA. While this is a creative take, it doesn't consider business realities. Cable channels have dual incomes: subscriber fees from cable operators and advertising. For a long time, they were the envy of the media world, but their revenue has shrunk with cord-cutting. (One can make a pretty compelling case that the cable channel programmers have made their ratings collapse a self-fulfilling prophecy, but that's a topic for another day.) So, combining CNBC with MSNBC would eliminate a huge chunk of subscriber fees. Financially, they need to remain separate. Viewership-wise, they need to remain separate as their audiences are not similar. USA and CNBC are two of the more widely available channels, and MSNBC has consistently been among the Top 5 cable channels in primetime viewership. That's why they are all part of SpinCo. The revenue from these three will drive the new company. Lastly, there's Peacock. As noted in the separation announcement, the cable channels being spun off account for very little of the content streamed on Peacock. Bravo content does well on Peacock, so it's staying put. NBCU is focusing on broadcast and streaming. They see a profitable future in Peacock and FAST channels like NBC News Now. But I did enjoy reading your creative ideas!

  5. I was ready to doubt you, but yeah, you're right. Such a lateral move. Their stubbornness and not wanting to actually evolve the show's look is very frustrating. Compare to the current set...

  6. Hello everyone, Invision Community, the software that powers this forum, is preparing a major upgrade that we will likely be moving to in the coming months. While there are a number of changes and improvements that I'm looking forward to, one change may negatively impact some folks around here. Logging in to the forum will require entering the account's email address, instead of the account's username. This will not affect you if you're using Google or Discord as a method to login. How can you prepare for this? It's easy! Check the email address associated with your account by clicking here and making sure it's up to date. This is also an important thing to do in case you ever get locked out of your account and need to change your password. There will be additional notice made before this change happens, and I am considering turning the feature on before the software upgrade as a way to prepare. Please note: for security reasons, under no circumstances will I disclose an account's email address. If you get locked out of your account because your email is not current/you are unsure of what email is tied to your account, you will need to create a new account. Please don't hesitate to reply here with any questions you may have. -Weeters

  7. CBS and Gayle King are getting hammered in the social media comments for this by fans. It might have been somewhat controversial last year, but now with Jeff Bezos cozying up to the current president and his dramatic changes at The Washington Post, this is a very bad look for a news anchor. She will no longer be able to report honestly on a major newsmaker, at least up until the launch, and she will likely feel indebted to him for the rest of her life. The question is whether CBS will be similarly tied.

  8. A stupid idea would be to cut the local stations out of the CW. They should just go the UPN route and sell off any station that does not have a CW affiliation if they want to go that far.

  10. They moved back to home base and unveiled a new desk (identical to WTTG). Not sure if they’re finished with the studio/set remodel (the lighting appears off…lots of shadows, etc…) While the new desk is nice, it is noticeably lower than the previous one.

  13. Those folks contributing a lot to the economy is also an objective fact. Regardless of status their working means they are contributing and the folks who are working are undoubtedly scared currently. Those are gonna be uncomfortable statements for some people but they are just like the earth being round. That’s why I used it as an example. I’m sure you can find an actual example where he really throws an opinion in there but that simply wasn’t it. Let’s say somebody gets beat up real good and he says “I hope the jerks get what’s coming!”… that might start to blur the lines a bit. I mean if you go to some corner and see folks working doing landscaping there’s at least a chance they are not legally authorized to work but it’s not reasonable to say they aren’t contributing to the economy because [insert flat earth denial reason here]. The first clip you posted didn’t actually include what you were talking about at all by the way. It seemed like a normal intro and then an ABC News sourced report about the fires. I didn’t see where he actually made an off hand remark about whodathunkit in LA. One thing I’m curious about… do you actually work in the news business?

  15. So, I just saw a promo for WMAQ/NBC 5's 10pm news, and Mike Adamle is featured alongside the other anchors. So, it finally seems like he's being acknowledged as the lead sports anchor, a role he's essentially filled for over two years. I know this didn't deserve it's own thread, but it didn't fit into any others, so I guess we can just have one for random rumblings at the old number 5.

  19. Have they been presenting weather in front of the video wall screen all week like Dani is doing on the 10am show? I can’t remember seeing Lee in front of it. KTRK does that as well and I’m a big fan of that look vs the traditional green screen.

  20. The rendering for the bottom set looks significantly better than the actual thing did. If only it were actually lit that way. That zoomed out view in the rendering would make for a great opening broadcast shot.

  22. Fair. I like WABC, they are probably the best in market right now, followed by WNBC then WCBS. But among the O&O group, WPVI seems to be the strongest that I've watched.

  24. With all due respect that off hand remark about immigrants is fairly widely reported and accepted as factual so it’s not exactly inserting biases into the equation. If the appeal was more emotional that would be perhaps biased. But those folks having all kinds of jobs others won’t do is a perhaps dirty but known thing. I don’t see that as in any way being inappropriate.

  28. I agree. Begin the show with that daily news roundup, but instead extend it to 90 second VOs or VO/SOTs for the first 2-5 mins, then get into feature reporting for the remainder. If CBS torches their best revamp of EN since Bob Schiffer, that would be very unfortunate. To the critics: Every news outlet covers the same thing, it's not a sin that CBS decided to go in a different direction. I really hope the audience gives this a chance. It's a jolting transition because we've been hardwired to fast paced high story count newscasts like the competition. But this is a level of quality rare for American TV news that we'd more see from PBS or Europeran sources like BBC and France 24. I hope people will open their minds to this. If this crashes and burns, I don't think the evening news can get much better than this. Just give the timeslot back to the affiliates.

  29. Looks like they have started the 2nd phase of the [ main ] set upgrades you mentioned. For the nearly two weeks; they have been using their secondary studio (Studio 32) for all newscasts. No word on when they will move back to the main studio nor the full scope of work being done.

  32. WFLD unveiled a different color set/skin of the FOX O&O graphics today. Most notable change is that Good Day Chicago has, as described by Mike Caplan, a ‘traditional’ open (delivered by the station’s voiceover announcer) along with new graphic elements. The L3s are a lot more richer/sharper than the previous ones.

  33. New graphics for Sports Sunday. The outgoing look carried several design cues from the 2016 O&O graphics, so it's no surprise that this package draws a little from the 2021 look.

  40. I do gotta say, I really like the Jeff and Dawn team at 9pm. I also have seen an improvement in the 9pm news in my opinion. For example, they started right away with team coverage with Craig and Alexa in the field and Bill in the Weather Center. If you think about it, sadly, 2 reporters for WFLD is a lot in one newscast since they lack personnel. Idk just my opinion. Put it this way, I don't want to fall asleep anymore now that Sirott's dry humor is gone.

  41. KGTV is running new promos touting its new fall lineup. Here is the afternoon schedule from 3-8pm... 3:00- Let's Ask America 3:30- Right This Minute 4:00- Right This Minute 4:30- Inside Edition 5:00- 10 News 6:00- 10 News 6:30- ABC World News 7:00- 10 News 7:30- The List So KGTV is adding Let's Ask America full time and The List. Inside Edition is being moved to lead into the 5pm news. They should have done a newscast at 4pm to compete with KNSD, instead of having another run of RTM.

  45. I thought I was going to miss The Early Show as well (even though I hated the last year. David Friedmen messed the show up) but I really enjoy it. I can see CBS keeping this team for a while since the ratings are up dramatically from 2 years ago even though it hasn't overtaking Today in the ratings.
