  1. Aside from the Astros, Houston is not a market that Fox has a vested interest in sports-wise. The Texans are an AFC team that's had some better years but that's CBS's problem in their eyes. Wonder if the same will happen in Orlando? Austin seems to hold on despite it not having any teams of their own, but feeds on the surrounding markets like DFW, Houston and San Antonio.

  2. “We did not eliminate the sports department — we eliminated the sports anchor position,” Keane said. “We’re still going to cover sports extensively both with a reporter in the mornings and we’re going to gather and distribute sports content across all sports whenever there’s breaking news." Typical corporate jargon speak. They did eliminate the sports department. If you let go of people whose job it was to do a very specific task, you eliminated the department and shifted the workload elsewhere. Also, specifically covering sports with a reporter in the morning? When nothing sportswise happens? Those reporters aren't going to have the same connections and relationships that the sports department will.

  4. Extremely disappointing decision since it's a Fox O&O. If more stations including O&Os join in eliminating the sports department, who knows what they could do...

  5. Looks like Comcast wanted exclusivity for carrying CHSN; outside non-Comcast markets like Iowa, Indy and Milwaukee, CHSN is being taken off OTA as of Monday, including WJYS.

  6. Probably. But they could end up having their digital content team fully take over Sports coverage too. It appears to be a pretty large one (of 7-8 people).

  7. I agree. From what I read (from reliable sources) is that 'if' Clarkson were to end her show; it would be so that she can focus on her family. That's a more plausible reason (to end the show) to me.

  8. The source for the above is the Daily Mail and they have no idea what they (or the anonymous source) are talking about. There's a good reason nobody usually uses a Yahoo News syndication article that's from a pink slime SEO operation.

  9. https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/articles/kelly-clarkson-tormented-talk-show-133000022.html Kelly Clarkson will reportedly leaver her talk show in 2026. If so that's a shame. She was one of the better daytime hosts. I really enjoy her and Sherri, Jennifer Hudson is okay too.

  10. Paxton, who owns WPSD, would be a good choice for WEVV. WEVV has had poor ownership going back for years. Paxton could save that station from the mess it's become.

  11. Wild that an O&O in such a major pro (and college) sports town would cut the entire department.

  12. Cheap and safe promotion. They will continue to be an also ran in the mornings.

  13. The staggered departure of Bill, probably is rooted on production side. What the general audience does not know is that these newscasts, while they may look and feel the same on air, they are all very different productions with different staff, producers, etc, news teams, etc working solely for the 5pm show, the 6pm show likely has different people behind it's production as well.

  15. I think he’s fine and that’s the thing, a lot of it is subjective. Some folks love to tear down others over some personal hangup.

  16. What makes him bad, personally I think he isn’t himself sometimes.

  17. CBS could take NBC #2 spot. He isn’t familiar with viewers when Lester got the weekday gig he’d been doing weekend editions for years. Tom hasn’t. Looks like he’ll continue to do Top Story on streaming so there trying to make him the face of TV and streaming not a bad idea.

  18. NBC announces Tom Llamas as Lester’s replacement. They deserve to fall to #3 lol, that guy is so bad.

  19. Tom Llamas is probably the successor don’t know if he’ll overtake ABC but it’s a fair choice. Even David Muir congratulated Lester on him stepping down, so even he knows what he up against next a former ABC colleague. He’s okay, don’t think he’ll overtake Muir nobody is overtaking ABC. I think in fact he’ll be fighting with CBS more.

  20. Yeah, this isn't a CBS-like transition. He'll be 66 next month, 10 years in a role that no one ever expected him to assume. Just stepping back from the daily grind. Good anchor, good guy, good for him.

  21. I mean Lester is 65 so he’s at about retirement age. Could be his way of slowing down while still being active

  22. It's been 10 years, so he's probably not renewing his contract (NBC probably cut what it would have been anyway). Maybe Jose Diaz-Balart moves over from the weekend to take over? He seems like a better choice over Tom Llamas.

  23. I don’t watch anymore. They cover stories in a breathless fashion with too many mini-packs. Lester jumps to the next topic too fast. Meanwhile, CBS has a great format now. Theirs is the Huntley-Brinkley report of this day.

  24. I'm surprised. Is he being forced to retire from Nightly News? Reassigned to Dateline. Like Norah O Donnell? She was reassigned to 60 minutes & other projects.

  25. I’m pretty meh on Tom Llamas being the replacement if they decide on him. He’s underwhelming.

  26. As if this cursed deal and the people around it aren't enough chaos already, Shari Redstone has thyroid cancer, so once again it's another Viacom/CBS/Paramount deal where a Redstone's health is throwing a wrench into the works. I hope she gets well, but I'm sorry about what they're doing to your baby, Bill Paley.

  29. I wouldn't say that MSNBC's departure will open up a lot of studio space. It will open one major studio - Studio 3A. They will have more office space opening up than studio space.

  35. He was in over his head at noon & 5 on WNBC, he was bland as all get out on ABC, so my expectations are low for Tom. I said it over the Discord, but I'll ask here; he was clearly hired to be NBC's Muir, but will he end up being more of a Jeff Glor?
