  1. WKMG loses two on-air talent folks in a span of days. First, Crystal Moyer who's leaving WKMG after 5 years there later today (as of the time I write this post). https://www.clickorlando.com/news/local/2025/06/25/thank-you-news-6-gets-ready-to-say-farewell-to-longtime-morning-anchor/?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=snd&utm_content=wkmg6&fbclid=IwY2xjawLS5PNleHRuA2FlbQIxMQABHhenP7c_1K0bxmgKgC5KtLn9AfZwzuvSPyfCm6KTqmruSfmt8sT5jt1nm_MU_aem_fTe-Jk7_86xBB8s7up4gxw Now, its longtime morning and noon anchor Bridgett Ellison who left yesterday after 14 years there. https://www.clickorlando.com/news/local/2025/07/02/wkmg-news-6-celebrates-anchors-14-years-of-service-to-central-florida/

  2. In the end, Paramount Global didn’t settle because they were wrong. They didn’t settle because it was fair. They settled because that’s how power works now. Grease the right palms, press the right flesh, and you can say whatever the hell you want—as long as you don’t mean it. In the end, they sold out the truth for 16 million bucks. ... that’s a hell of a bargain.

  4. I would argue maybe bringing "Vatican Media" to the States via Roku and other streaming means and double down on content, even make actual newscasts from the reports from Vatican News? But does the cost justify it when the church is already in a tough financial spot, probably not.

  5. The Ansin family literally developed Miramar from the beginning. The only thing that kept them from redeveloping the island was getting the WIOD side and their towers (the island was partitioned in 1962 after Biscayne Broadcasting lost the license for channel 7–which saw a replacement license awarded to Sunbeam—and AM 610 was sold back to Cox Media).

  8. TBN also did themselves no favors by cashing out many of their stations in the spectrum auction, and subsequently selling the licenses to other parties, much like WDLI in Canton living on as a re-packed station on Ion's (Inyo's) WVPX. These TBN stations (and other full-power god-casters) exploited the must-carry obligation to get them on cable while the others opted for retransmission consent. Donations went down over time and the spectrum was a way to make some quick cash.

  11. Does the TV version of EWTN still air Mother Angelica's reruns? EWTN was her mission as a nun and was an extension of her creating a monastery in the South after experiencing a miracle of her own healing from a devastating injury. Her original TV efforts were through WBMG (now WIAT) but she decided to start forming EWTN after she objected to CBS's content at the time. As tormented as the Catholic Church has been throughout its history, this is probably the only religious TV channel purely devoted to faith.

  15. For what it's worth most of this goes back to the Crouch family feud, in which Matthew and his wife Laurie (and by extension, their sons Caylan and Cody) prevailed over Paul Jr. and his children for succession rights. P.J. and his son Brandon created JCTV, renamed JUCE after P.J. and his offspring were banished from TBN. Smile (of a Child) and the Church Channel were Jan Crouch's creations. As soon as she died, Matt and Laurie changed course on both. TBN stayed away from wading into political waters when Paul Sr. and Jan were running the show. Of course, that all changed when Matt and Laurie gained full control once both his parents were gone. I see that as part natural evolution, and part Matt and Laurie seeking greater influence in those circles.

  16. There's two EWTNs: the first is the channel that shows masses for shut-ins and daily rosaries (along with Bishop Sheen reruns). The second is the news service, which is to the right of OAN and Newsmax. Raymond Arroyo is their lead "anchor" when he's not chumming up with Laura Ingraham, a friendship that goes back to her conversation to the Church 20 years ago. The Vatican is in a tough spot, it's not like there's enough of an audience to justify the existence of a competing network with a more liberal ideology. It always had been a euphemism for the right-wing. CBN, TBN, PTL and even individual televangelists have had those beliefs for practically forever.

  24. As I said months ago....it's very iffy for Maurice to relinquish his WCBS seat for the unstable CBS Evening News. We initially thought Maurice would stay on at 11 PM, but when they changed him not on CBS 2 at all it was understandable based on the assumption he'd be busy with national duties. But John Dickerson anchors Evening News +, most special coverage, and is typically the between the pair to anchor special reports. All Maurice really does is the 30 minute CBSEN and I'm not sure if he takes a lead editorial role in the broadcast. Maurice & CBS probably have their reasons but perhaps he could have maintained his dual national and local roles. I'm guessing her bio isn't updated, because as I recall Cindy Hsu took over 12pm after her 9am newscast was cancelled.

  29. I know that Wood TV is number 1 by a mile it isn't close I thought that WWMT was number 2 as there promos say there the number 1 station from sign on to sign off largely because of syndication, & WZZM number 3 just because of it being a legacy station only. I was surprised that Hearst sold WZZM in the 90s to what is now TEGNA yeah, would like to Hearst to buy WZZM again.

  30. You know this is a dying industry when all of these companies are being scooped up by banksters and bottom fisher low rent broadcasters like Byron Allen.
    1 point
  31. IF they were, they won't be for much longer... WWMT is now down to 8 people I think? Christina Anthony left in November and they most likely won't replace her... Chief Keith Thompson is all over the place filling in... They have 2-3 reporters and focus way too much on Kalamazoo/Battle Creek for any GR viewers to care... My dream wish would be for Hearst to pick up WZZM somehow...

  32. I just don't see good things happening... I wonder if WZZM cna stay in 2nd place with him...

  34. I'll admit I was surprised Wood TV aired ES.TV seems it's repeats than new content even when the guide says it's new yeah, it isn't a good show Byron would be smart to put music videos for 30 minutes than ES.TV in my opinion.

  35. When I think Byron Allen, I think of his Entertainment Studios show from years ago that would be on before the morning news. And those shows were meh at best.. So to consider him a top rate broadcaster would take some time...

  36. Allen Media has a long way to go to decent respectability. Owning the Weather Channel is a good start, but the bottom line is Allen Media (and Entertainment Studios) are the slumlords of daytime TV with all of their cheap "court" shows.
    1 point
  37. P.S. Do you consider Allen Media a top rate broadcaster? LOL Tegna is light years ahead in respectability. Allen is right there at the bottom of the garbage pail with Nexstar, Scripps and Gray.

  40. If Nexstar passes on WMYD & KOFY, what I don't want to see is them getting gobbled up buy a "Spectrum Speculator". Those two stations are too good to be sold by a company that they only care for is to cash-in at auction time. Those stations will go bye-bye post-auction, if that's the case. I wished Fox would acquire WMYD, but it can't happens because it has to keep the eight separate owners rule. I think the question is why would LIN want a low-rated station in a sub-100 market, like WAOE. Many of these groups would want a leading station. Yes LIN own 7 sub-100 market stations (2 involves using its shell card, Topeka & Youngstown), but most are among the top rated. It would be stupid for LIN to just have a low-rated MyNetworkTV stated and have not have one of the bigger stations like WMBD, WEEK or WHOI. AFAIK, WAOE is basically shell bate.
    1 point
  41. AFAIK, LIN bought New Vision's station group and it came with the SSA agreement to operate three stations. otherwise, I personally would think that Sinclair/Nexstar are not really going to divest any stations at all unless the FCC has a really really hard time with their ownership proceedures with an TV station.
    1 point
  42. Nexstar and Sinclair (and any other existing owners) are not likely going to divest unless forced to by the FCC.
    1 point
  43. I agree re: Fort Wayne, they got away with it in Evansville and Granite already has the situation so it is basically status quo. WMYD and KOFY I definitely see sold off (probably as duopoly bait for the existing owners in their markets - perhaps Fox Broadcasting for WMYD into a duopoly with WJBK and Cox Media for KOFY into a duopoly with KTVU?) since top-15 markets are not in Nexstar's DNA. Binghamton is pretty much status quo as well due to the fact there are essentially two operations given the market size. Duluth would probably be KBJR and KRII to Nexstar proper and KDLH to Mission - no effective change. It is Peoria and Syracuse where the troubles lie... It might be that the WSYT deal to Cunningham was rejected but it appears somewhat unclear...if so, then something there would need to be sold off to another operation. But who? If forced to sell something in Syracuse, Hubbard comes on my mind first due to adjacent assets, while in Peoria, the first on my mind is Quincy, also due to adjacent assets in similar small-medium markets. Some of those Sinclair/Nexstar LMAs may end up being bait for the other side in trades... What do you mean by those Sinclair/Nexstar LMAs may end up for the bait for the other side as in the selling or trading off?

  44. Brady would probably have a baby and file a complaint, if it does come to fruition. He owns WICZ. On earlier post, I speculated that Media General would acquire the Granite stations, because it wouldn't have any sort of conflicts. The overlapped markets (Duluth & Fort Wayne), one of them would be assigned to that Galloway shell (I think he holds the Sheild). The article states that one of the deals may include Granite. Should they acquire Granite, I don't think that it will include KOFY or WMYD. That would be just too big for them. Should Nexstar goes ahead and acquire Granite, several things need to be sorted out, not only the situations in Peoria & Syracuse, which I think there's several issues in itself, but the current LMA in other existing/new Sinclair/Nexstar markets. It looks like Sinclair will win another Big-4 duopoly soon (like in SA with WOAI/KABB) in El Paso (KDBC/KFOX). If both are going to move to a new facility in 2014 like they said they were going to do, where are going to move to? Or are they going to build it from scratch (which is very unlikely). Other markets include Harrisburg, Rochester. I think, the Rochester one basically be done after it expires. I don't think Nexstar will lose any sleep if WUHF move to WHAM, because there busy hubbing the other NY stations anyway. Harrisburg could be a real tricky situation since Sinclair will operate both WHP and WHTM, while they still have that LMA with WLYH. In other words, 7 years ago when they both partnered to do the LMAs in Rochester, Peoria & Harrisburg, and while both have more then one shell I think they have all the capital that they don't really need/continue to have an LMA. Peoria will be one hot mess. Should Nexstar acquires WEEK (and they would no doubt have come with a Mission), you know what they're going to do. I'm not sure if WMBD's building is big enough to occupy two stations and two master controls. I would love to see WHOI having an in-house news operation. If Sinclair was smart enough, they would probably think about the spots to where they could build a facility, and yes they would have to recruit personnel and buy sets and HD equipment and such. OR, should WEEK move to WMBD, WHOI could have the WEEK facility all to themselves, and move WYZZ to join WHOI. But whatever the case maybe, this would be one of the most complicated moves I've ever see in regards of move of station operations. If the LMA in Peoria & Syracuse never happened, this would be an easier pill to swallow, I tell you.
    1 point
  45. If this were to go through, Binghamton would be a mess too, as they would have ABC, NBC and CBS. The only non-Nexstar station would be FOX.
    1 point
  46. No surprise at all really, Granite was definitely a seller all along. Nexstar was never even in contention for the big guns recently - Local TV, Allbritton, Belo, Young, etc. - as they were FAR outside their price range. I wonder if the top-market netlets would be kept by them or sold (perhaps to networks looking for O&O duopolies) for more cash for further acquisitions, since Nexstar doesn't seem interested in top-25 markets.
