  1. I can’t tell if this is a joke lol. Is this the first time you’ve watched a television news broadcast?

  2. Because Savannah and Craig are away (either on vacation or on assignment) and Laura and Peter are filling in for them. They want the viewers to know that Savannah and Craig are still the weekday hosts and they will be back.

  3. It’s the middle of the summer. They’re probably on vacation. It’s also Wednesday, the show is still Savannah and Craig why would they change the open?

  4. Any reason why the "Saturday" team (Laura Jarrett and Peter Alexander) were both anchoring on a Wednesday today? It completely threw me for a loop, but even more baffling was that the "voiceover" and graphic at the start of the show still said/displayed "with Savannah Guthrie and Craig Melvin" when Laura and Peter have their own voiceover/graphic that you see on Saturdays. Man, that is flagrant false advertising!

  6. Ol' Scotty is off here, it wasn't ABC that did this, it was Sunbeam. By far the best-designed easy-to-read, billboard I've seen in a long time. Ed would be proud.

  7. Sinclair once again operates KBSI Cape Girardeau and WDKA Paducah. They've purchased the non-license assets of the two as Standard Media (under Community News Group) continues to own them. However, there's an option in the future for Sinclair to also own both, not just operate. https://sbgi.net/sinclair-acquires-assets-of-wdka-in-paduca-ky-and-kbsi-in-cape-girardeau-mo/

  8. Sunbeam were talking with ABC since late last year. It's only new to us. Extra is the glue that holds Deco that holds time to allegedly put Live in that slot next year there are no original ideas over there. They're copying WHDH and hope it sticks. also, WPLG said streaming ate up exclusivity and why they said no to ABC. Welp, Jeopardy! and Wheel are going to Hulu, Peacock and Disney+with current episodes plus the entire library going back 42 seasons, in September, so all the fans can play it all day long on demand.

  9. 106.3 WUUB, the ESPN Radio station owned by Good Karma Brands in WPB, has changed its callsign to WESP. The request took place on April 11th, granted by the FCC on April 17th, and became effective on April 28th. Its the closest ESPN Radio station to Miami since Miami itself doesn't have an affiliate anymore (WQAM has Infinity Sports and WINZ has FOX Sports). https://enterpriseefiling.fcc.gov/dataentry/views/public/fmDraftCopy?displayType=html&appKey=25076ff3961a34fd0196253ca8a808ec&id=25076ff3961a34fd0196253ca8a808ec&goBack=N

  10. Nope! That's trash TV programs right there, and I'm glad WPLG didn't pick them up. We don't need those programs here, so no. Not a bad thing.

  12. Corporate contingency plan. Likely a playbook written years ago, and refined with lessons learned from Hurricane Harvey flooding KHOU. Have a few strategic locations with fully functional second control rooms, studios, and a large enough of an operation where they have staff levels to support a sudden, unexpected addition without harming the host station’s product too much. Plus, MSP and ATL are both Delta hubs - so there are frequent flights between both cities to get talent there.

  14. And for the record, Rincon closed on WICS/WICD, KHQA, KTVO and WVTV on July 9th. So can we expect any de-Sinclair-ing of these stations any time soon? Here's a press release from WVTV: https://cw18milwaukee.com/fcc/rincon-broadcasting-group-acquires-wvtv-milwaukee# Not even a blip on Sinclair's website about divesting these stations. So did they really sell them and still plan on running them from the inside out?

  20. Bringing this back from the dead because for the upcoming UFL season... four teams are being relocated. Michigan, Houston, Birmingham, and Memphis are OUT, Boise, Columbus (Ohio), Florida (likely Orlando), and Kentucky (either Louisville or Lexington) are IN. https://pfnewsroom.com/news/ufl-to-relocate-four-markets-for-the-2026-season/

  22. Also to note that Tamron moves off WSFL to ABC 18 with no timeslot change, with JHud moving an hour back on WSFL, so we may be seeing some more schedule horse-trading through the next two months. But for a channel put together with only a few weeks notice, WSVN hasn't done too bad outside Extra being dead time spackle in the morning and evening, but you're going to just have those spots where you just need to keep the lights on. I just don't understand moving Live up an hour on WPLG at all, where you could just air it live at 9 rather than keep the news going until 11, but I suppose they want to try to counterprogram The View. Miami is basically New York South so I don't think that makes any sense, but People Puzzler being the Family Feud prime time substitute here works well enough.

  23. My last update on this hopefully for a while… KARE did get a 6:00 show to air from the Telefarm. The newscast opened with Julie Nelson standing under a tent explaining the situation and acknowledged that the newscast would be historic and different, and also said they will be out of the studio for the foreseeable future. Reporters appeared one after the other with the one handheld mic, and all b-roll and interviews/stories ran with whatever editing they were able to do. The commercial breaks were all PSAs, and the only graphics they had on the screen were a couple weather stills that Met Jamie Kagol said were prepared via text by WXIA as he explained the weather (possible severe) while looking at a radar on his phone. All in all, an impressive feat pulled off by everyone at KARE tonight.

  24. billboards going up around town. I wonder if they were smart enough to buy social ads against WPLG's FB profile and followers https://www.ftvlive.com/sqsp-test/2025/7/21/ba-bye-local-10

  30. Well... the American hub of TUDN is now based in Mexico City. As of late last month, they closed their American offices in my home market of Miami and relocated to Mexico City to cut production costs and streamline the whole thing. It also means that some workers have either been laid off or left altogether to avoid moving. https://www.adiario.mx/deportes/anuncia-tudn-cierre-de-oficinas-en-miami-y-recortes-de-personal/

  34. Because after being taxed to death by the NFL and college football (well, sort of through rising TV rates and such) all America needs is another football league after the season is over, right?

  37. They could call it “Space City Home Sports Entertainment” and resurrect the legacy HSE brand…

  38. Space City Home Network doesn’t exactly convey a place to watch sports. The name’s giving… local version of HGTV. At least rename it Space City SportsNet to drive home that the network is still the home of the Astros, the Rockets and other local teams.

  39. I apologize if this was already talked about in other sections of TVNT but according to The Denver Post reports are saying AT&T Sports Net Rocky Mountain may be shutting down at the end of the year. 40. And now that network has a new name and logo starting in October: SportsNet Pittsburgh. Now it says in that article that it'll be carried on every cable, satellite and streaming provider, but that's not true. It won't be on DISH because they haven't carried AT&TSN for over a year now, and they don't carry any RSNs, including NESN.

  41. The Jazz are not in their circulation area. The Rockies are, but with Altitude still blanked out from Comcast after several years... I don't think a team would want to enter that scenario.
