I can’t tell if this is a joke lol. Is this the first time you’ve watched a television news broadcast?7 points

Because Savannah and Craig are away (either on vacation or on assignment) and Laura and Peter are filling in for them. They want the viewers to know that Savannah and Craig are still the weekday hosts and they will be back.5 points
-
It’s the middle of the summer. They’re probably on vacation. It’s also Wednesday, the show is still Savannah and Craig why would they change the open?4 points
-
Any reason why the "Saturday" team (Laura Jarrett and Peter Alexander) were both anchoring on a Wednesday today? It completely threw me for a loop, but even more baffling was that the "voiceover" and graphic at the start of the show still said/displayed "with Savannah Guthrie and Craig Melvin" when Laura and Peter have their own voiceover/graphic that you see on Saturdays. Man, that is flagrant false advertising!3 points

Ol' Scotty is off here, it wasn't ABC that did this, it was Sunbeam. By far the best-designed easy-to-read, billboard I've seen in a long time. Ed would be proud.2 points

Sinclair once again operates KBSI Cape Girardeau and WDKA Paducah. They've purchased the non-license assets of the two as Standard Media (under Community News Group) continues to own them. However, there's an option in the future for Sinclair to also own both, not just operate. https://sbgi.net/sinclair-acquires-assets-of-wdka-in-paduca-ky-and-kbsi-in-cape-girardeau-mo/2 points

Sunbeam were talking with ABC since late last year. It's only new to us. Extra is the glue that holds Deco that holds time to allegedly put Live in that slot next year there are no original ideas over there. They're copying WHDH and hope it sticks. also, WPLG said streaming ate up exclusivity and why they said no to ABC. Welp, Jeopardy! and Wheel are going to Hulu, Peacock and Disney+with current episodes plus the entire library going back 42 seasons, in September, so all the fans can play it all day long on demand.2 points

CHSN will temporarily return OTA in Chicago for 7 games the rest of the MLB season via WCIU (posted via T Dog Media on Bluesky).1 point

Nope! That's trash TV programs right there, and I'm glad WPLG didn't pick them up. We don't need those programs here, so no. Not a bad thing.1 point

Makes sense, though I hope KARE and WXIA aren't the only stations set up for this. (I can see KING and WFAA both also being available.)1 point

Sky TV has agreed to buy Warner Brothers Discovery NZ, which owns Three, for NZ$1. WBD bought Three, also known as TV3, for US$20 Million in 2020. Sky TV shares a name, but is not related to Sky Group in the UK, which is owned by Comcast.1 point

Couldn't it just be transitional services or something.1 point

The Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals has issued its decision in the case challenging the FCC's ownership rules. While upholding most of it, they overturned the decision to keep the top-four rule and the tightening of it to include LPTVs and subchannels. The Court gave the FCC 90 days to justify retaining the top-four rule. https://ecf.ca8.uscourts.gov/opndir/25/07/241380P.pdf1 point

Yes they switched to these on Monday. Other NBC O7Os do this. The white flag was the more striking aspect. They said that there would be a lot of integration between the two newsrooms. About 2 weeks ago a T47 reporter did a report on NBC4. It makes sense.1 point

Ch10 will have to be in dire straits to put these two on. They aren't into low brow shows. Many over there (still?) think WSVN is low brow news if that says anything1 point

Bringing this back from the dead because for the upcoming UFL season... four teams are being relocated. Michigan, Houston, Birmingham, and Memphis are OUT, Boise, Columbus (Ohio), Florida (likely Orlando), and Kentucky (either Louisville or Lexington) are IN. https://pfnewsroom.com/news/ufl-to-relocate-four-markets-for-the-2026-season/1 point

John Ziegler and Lauren Leamanczyk is in or heading to Atlanta to WXIA 11 Alive to handle the streaming side for KARE11 while they deal with getting power back and getting back on air.1 point

Good on Sunbeam to do this. Had a feeling they would after seeing the initial report on this on 7 News & Craig Stevens (whose FB page looks to me like he's kinda a fanboy to ABC with all the posts relating to the switch) stating they'd be doing an ad campaign ahead of the launch of ABC Miami.1 point

not unusual at all, they used to run lower thirds during Deco and daytime programming for upcoming FOX shows. The 10pm newscast teasers that run between 8-10pm also mention the network and the shows. And the 6-6:30pm newscast often features previews for upcoming shows. American Idol was really the big one they pumped constantly1 point

WDAF delayed Letterman (and Conan's first year) a 1/2 hour, KSHB continued to delay continue by a 1/2hr for a couple years, still not as bad as how he was treated in Houston1 point

To clarify his post above... WFIE launched a new brand at 12 Noon today. Except... its not a new brand. Temporary? Maybe, but currently unsure. I checked Zeam and the later 4:00, 5:00, and 6:00 p.m. newscasts... it still goes by 14 News, so I wouldn't go full gorilla on this change just yet.1 point

Seems like they been 18 & 48 past the hour. I saw it on Fri was very odd they should keep it on the 8's and not 27 or 53 past the hour in my opinion.1 point

Anchor and reporter Morgan Parrish is joining Good Day Philadelphia. She's a South Jersey native and is coming from Fox 35 in Orlando, FL. https://www.phillymag.com/news/2025/07/21/morgan-parrish-fox-29/1 point

Because after being taxed to death by the NFL and college football (well, sort of through rising TV rates and such) all America needs is another football league after the season is over, right?1 point

I hope those buckeye players who want to pursue professional football opportunities realize there is more than one pathway to the NFL and that is the United Football League1 point

This does not surprise me one bit. Especially since many don't even understand the difference between the two, other than the fact that they are both just football in the spring or summer.1 point

Space City Home Network doesn’t exactly convey a place to watch sports. The name’s giving… local version of HGTV. At least rename it Space City SportsNet to drive home that the network is still the home of the Astros, the Rockets and other local teams.1 point

Agree, and if MLB had a streaming app where I could watch all games of every team without region locks, I’d shell out the money for it. I’m sure a lot of other people would too. Same goes for NHL/NBA. The NFL essentially has that service already with Sunday Ticket; why can’t the other leagues have something like that?1 point
-
That is, quite honestly, a very good idea. It's well known that the only thing many people still turn to linear TV for is live sports. If I was running an independent station, I'd most definitely be looking into some local sports rights...if the price is right.1 point

random question but are they going to do any type of relaunch with the new optimum brand identity?1 point

Finally News 12 Hudson Valley/ Westchester is LIVE on the top of every hour during the day (weekdays only) and now the evening news starts at 4:30pm (that only used to happen in Yonkers). Its really a good thing for them instead of showing the same exact thing over again.1 point
