  1. They could have saved so much headache if they just moved Robin Meade to CNN instead of letting her go.

  2. This means nothing... There are several Gray stations that have had the NBC peacock and the CBS eye removed for weeks now...

  3. WSB is now using the new graphics in full, as they have debuted the standard open.

  4. Funny you should mention Spectrum. Gregg Palermo is a KTVI/KPLR alum; They also appear to have an executive producer, a digital producer, a meteorologist, and a reporter, too. A small team, for sure, but more than KDNL, and it's comical The National Desk.

  5. The 2/1 newscast and weather report with "Sexual Eruption" in the background of the forecast is...wow... It feels like it would go well with the film Idiocracy.

  6. WHP-TV CBS 21 here in Harrisburg (not to any surprise) kept the old ticker, for now. -- Matt

  7. I think these look pretty good, actually. I like the different colors highlighting certain stories, a nice addition if you're just glancing at the screen and decide you want to focus more on a campaign or money story.

  8. I'm not entirely sure that would have worked. Robin's show did not have the political and international focus that the main network has. While it might have been refreshing to see CNN getting back to reporting more than three or four topics an hour, I don't think they would do that.

  9. Also notable, that's sports anchor Jim Rose with the opening voiceover, that night.

  10. Agreed. The concept is not horrible. The L3's just look too cartoonish, flat, fat, and white. The graphics looked better in the CBS News Mornings shot, maybe because it doesn't have the ticker and the upper subject bar weighing it down. Broadstroke: As time advances television graphics are not.

  11. New graphics premiered. The open basically looks the same, but has been made shorter. The lower-thirds look cartoonish and they went with a bold condensed font for the main text. Is the text an afterthought? The logo, now stacked in two lines, stays on the left side of the screen like the other CBS newscasts and local news. (Previously it would move above the lower-third.) Edit: I should add that this is an upgrade over the previous look, which didn't let the text breathe and had too many sections that were just black. This is mostly white and feels lighter. WCBS seems to be having problems with the ticker. It's been blank most of the time, occasionally running a single headline from the website before being blank again. It also remained on screen during most of the first commercial break.

  12. IIRC, Bill Ritter himself was on weekend evenings before he replaced Beutel on the 11pm. If they're grooming Mike Marza to be Bill's eventual successor, I could definitely see Pedro taking the weekday morning slot.

  13. Oh I know why they do it. And I completely agree with you. This isn't the 1950s anymore. The race should be shown live in the Indianapolis market. There's absolutely no reason why it shouldn't be aired live. None whatsoever.

  14. I hope the L3s get updated with the new ticker, the two just don't match.

  15. The only message that likely sends is "We don't want local fans to be interested in our [race/game]."

  16. If anything, the stations have to give up inventory (either paid or promotional) to show NewsNation ads. For a station that is not clearly number #1, giving up this prime inventory may be something that could possibly make a difference for the positive.

  17. They're identical, though the two .png files you attached aren't accurate. Those feature a different circle 7 than the 2021 versions. KABC and KGO are now identical, too, and all 4 stations use the same numeral.

  19. Paramount likely figured the Nick simulcast would add viewership, boosting total ratings for the Super Bowl, rather than cannibalize the CBS viewership, given their different demographics.

  23. IMS does this so they can "so-call" boost attendance. They want seats to be filled at IMS for the big race. This "put the race on TV, no one will come to the stands" mantra is so backwards-thinking. Why you want to hinder the local viewers from watching the race live on TV? NFL use to do this (if there's no sell-out 72 hrs before the game).

  24. Seems like a pretty good hire, and will hopefully make a good partner for Arrianee. My guess is the same as above (Kendis/Arrianee for 4pm and 5pm and Shirley/Kori for 6pm/6:30pm/10pm). He is also one of "New York's very own", as they say.

  25. Yeah The CW is definitely not getting the 500. NBC will do everything it can to keep that race. It's not going anywhere. What could happen if The CW gets part of the IndyCar rights is something similar to how the rights were split between ABC/NBCSN (Versus before that) before NBC completely took over. That's a possibility. It really is a shame. It's ridiculous. Just plain stupid. There's no reason that the race should be blacked out in the home market. I've been against it for years.

  26. Why wouldn’t the CW have it on Memorial Day weekend? EDIT: Oh I see. They wouldn’t televise Indy. And yes. NBC feeds WTHR that night’s primetime lineup while the race is being broadcast to the rest of the country (noon-4pm Eastern). ABC did the same for WRTV I believe.

  27. Yep. They still do the local blackout. And that's a shame.

  28. Obviously, The CW wouldn't have the marquee race on Memorial Day weekend, but carrying the other races leading up to it and any other series would be a benefit for WISH. So even after the 500 itself moved to NBC, they still tape delay it in Indianapolis?

  29. The small details matter! I’m very pleased to see that WABC is using an alternate talent intro for Friday 6pm shows that feature Sam Ryan instead of Ryan Field.

  30. It sounds like he is preparing for retirement by being sure to transfer his knowledge across the group. I don't think he will have any on air role going forward. With his experience, it is well deserved.

  31. Thats pretty cool! At least he'll still be with WABC but in a different capacity!

  32. Sade also sounded ill a couple nights ago. Also, we seem to have acquired Phil Taitt from News 12 for morning reports. Considering they've been short a morning person since Derrick Waller understandably walked away, I'm guessing he's the replacement.

  33. At the very least, I like that talent opens still exist. It allows anchors to own their slot rather than being interchangeable. They're also more grand than the boring two second opens we get on stations like WNBC. Overall, the new ABC O&O package isn't the best BUT it's better than anything WABC has had in decades and I'm just greatful for that. I enjoy their use of gradient blue L3 rather than the over proliferated paper white box look.

  34. Ugh! This package looks 8-10 years old already...really dated.
