  1. Yeah, no idea where you got that September 1st idea from. @That 00s Show As a new member, please be more discerning and responsible in future posts.

  2. Couple problems: 1) the article is from last year and 2) it says nothing about the CW moving from KFMB-DT2 to KUSI in the timeframe mentioned in the thread title. In another thread (which I believe linked to said article), another user stated that KFMB’s CW contract didn’t lapse until 2026, so unless Nexstar confirms the affiliation will move to KUSI on September 1 (terminating the KFMB contract early), this thread was created prematurely.

  3. WRAL's streaming strategy is a big firehose with multiple services rather than just limiting it to certain websites and services (and times... *cough* Perry Sook ), including an open stream of their WRAL+/WNGT-CD service on YouTube, so this isn't a surprise; just another means to get their news out there. I wouldn't worry about any takeovers; this is just a broadcasting company that remembers the 'broad' part of the name and Fox letting them do so through that affiliation agreement, the same way they carry WAGA's audio on an HD2 radio subchannel through Audacy, and I'd expect this will be the first of many FoxLocal streaming deals (or perhaps a part of the upcoming cord-cutting app in planning).

  4. This is better lit than their Upper West Side studio, warmer lighting has really helped all of the shows that moved. The HD quality looks richer. The temporary set looked better IMO, I wish they switched it up more for the new permanent Live set. This is basically what ABC did with World News Tonight, re-create the same thing in a different space. The only set I would've liked to have seen rebuilt the same way was The View, as it looked really good before, but the new set is OK.

  5. Yeah….no. The shows are expensive. That is reason to give group management pause and warrants careful evaluation as contracts renew. But the bottom is what matters and if the business benefits from having the shows on those stations, they will stay. Big boys and girls understand business is business. Sometimes you get into a tiff in one area, but no one with an ounce of common sense would base a business decision involving millions of dollars just on spite.

  6. I’m going to be very blunt and say that, given what Apollo has to offer—a slightly above average group of television stations with an over-performer in WSB-TV and an unappealing laggard in WFXT, coupled with a whole bunch of radio stations—they’ll be lucky to find any buyers to speak of. Who’d want that hodgepodge of stuff? it would not be surprising to see Apollo take Cox off the market because no one wants it. They waited four years too late to sell and aren’t going to get another novice like INSP that is willing to burn $400M just for the ego boost of owning TV stations. Gray, Scripps and Nexstar don’t need them at all (and they ESPECIALLY do not want the radio stations) and Hearst doesn’t buy stations, period.

  7. I hope even if they call, he has the good sense to say no. There is nothing to gain and everything to lose by coming back. I hope Leon finds peace, sobriety, and health in his next chapter. As someone who spent 15 years in a newsroom, for every person who has a public/visible fall from grace due to alcohol or other substance abuse, there are just as many, if not more, who battle it silently or are in denial about it and manage to fly under the radar. There's no way to quantify the why - but the combination of odd hours, lack of balance, constant bad news content, and high-pressure work environment all likely play a role. Candidly, it's a big reason why I got out when I did. I saw the life outcomes of unmarried or divorced men over 40 who stay in TV news. The odds are not in your favor.

  8. Being a savvy mom & pop operation, this actually makes sense. No corporate directives to use "their" platform. Just use their absolute dominance to send their signal every which way because everyone is watching to begin with! And FOX gets a willing affiliate who wants to make their news product part of their national offerings, on their own accord, not a forced clause in their affiliation agreement.

  9. Which would be suicidal and I'm sure the local folks will try to talk New York out of it, but we're talking about a company that utterly refuses to kill a cable channel even as nobody is watching them and subscribers plead with providers to force them to die to get even $4 of relief on their bills. Les Moonves is a jerk and his personal life sucked, but he literally only seemed to be the only adult in the room that could get through to the Redstones and the Viacom board and deal with every CBS division with an iron fist. I would expect next go-around if this sticks, Sony seals a deal with ABC-Disney for distribution and streaming and that if not Netflix, Hulu already has a head start to start streaming the shows just based on Sony/ABC's overall relationships regarding the show alone. Every single negative thing Les feared about a re-merger has come true.

  10. Don't be surprised if out of retaliation for this, CBS doesn't renew the contracts for the 2 game shows in the O&O markets that air it in Boston, Dallas, & Minneapolis/St. Paul.

  11. Not sure what to make of your unnecessary hyperbole, nor did anyone suggest a "grand conspiracy." I simply pointed out that while Disney PR told People Magazine that this was intentional, I suspected it wasn't. You essentially just restated what I already said -- there was likely a delay necessitating it. That's all.

  12. What in the hell possessed INSP to incinerate $393M like that in less than three years? That's Enron levels of fraud. Did Marc Rowan (Apollo's CEO) have incriminating evidence against INSP CEO David Cerullo and threatened to release it if INSP didn't blow all that money on KOKI, WHBQ and a bunch of spare parts and scrap? Cause there's no other way to explain why they would engage in such a horrible transaction.

  16. Another legendary television and radio personality passes on, this time Wink Martindale. Mr. Martindale passed away today at the age of 91, at Eisenhower Health Center in Rancho Mirage, California (near Palm Springs). He was a radio personality for many decades, but most notably he was the host of various game shows including Gambit, Debt, Headline Chasers (a show he co-created with Merv Griffin), the 1987-88 version of High Rollers, and the show that perhaps made him more famous--Tic Tac Dough. He was also one of the first media personalities that helped introduced Elvis Presley in the mid-50s, when Martindale hosted a local dance show on WHBQ-TV in Memphis, and brought Presley on as a guest performer. In later years, he and a couple of associates maintained a YouTube channel that features old and obscure game shows, including dozens of pilots that didn't become series.

  23. I cannot think of anything more value destructive. Just because Ed Ansin got away with it twice doesn't mean it can work when the product is diluted this much. In a billingual market, no less. Honestly I wouldn't be surprised to see Warren Buffett take the L after a year or two and unload WPLG to Mission so Nexstar can have a CW O&O for Miami. He's had some bad business moves re: media (buying the Media General newspaper chain, helping Scripps buy Ion) but this might be the biggest oopsie.

  30. I completely believe this because what used to be a good tool for managing accounts in TweetDeck is probably now a bodged together online-only mess because the guy who took over the site destroyed the downloadable app that let you do this all offline THEN send the muted words onto their lists. I don't know the TweetDeck experience right now, but adding every variation of the r-slur because that place refuses to moderate anything just as an individual user now was a nightmare and a half.

  31. This is pretty much it; Coxpollo wants it to be 1997 where they can create an omnimedia company when nobody actually wants that. They're better off just keeping only the Atlanta, Orlando and Dayton clusters (or better, just the AM news/talk and FM simulcast) that are historically important to the company and so integrated into the TV stations that there's no way to easily break them up, and selling off the rest. They already created Summit Media the first time, which got the radio stations Scripps couldn't easily sell off, and that might just end up being the default direction they have to take.

  33. Well, Sinciair not only wants the FCC to abolish the current ownership rules, but end ATSC 1.0 as we know it.... https://www.tvtechnology.com/news/sinclair-urges-fcc-to-abolish-station-ownership-rules-sunset-atsc-1-0 I sort-of agree that 3.0 is a superior standard. But if only Sinclair is behind it and other broadcasters are using it as a way to restrict viewership (through encoding and datacasting), then it sort of defeats the purpose of broadcasting as we know it. Streaming has proven to be a method where they hold the control. It's there one day and could be gone the next. If broadcasters have the same control, then consumers lose out as well.

  35. Couple of departures from KTUL/KOKH. Yesterday was sports Director TJ Eckert’s last day after 7 years at KTUL. Tonight is Meteorologist Colton Williams last day at both stations. Both are planning to stay in green county but haven’t announce their plans. Well I should say TJ said he will announce later on down the road Colton isn’t for sure as to his next plans but is planning on doing social media weather updates still.

  36. Actually, Drew joined the lineup last year, moving over from Dabl when that network switched from lifestyle shows to Black sitcoms. Ironically, Dabl itself added Hot Bench to its overnight lineup last fall, putting it in the 2:00 a.m. hour that should technically belong to an overnight run of Are We There Yet?, which was added at the same time. (AWTY does air at that hour on weekends, however.)

  39. Now that it's mid-April and winter weather seems to be in our rear view mirror, CBS 2 CBS News New York has rebranded the Mobile Weather Lab, which launched in March 2012 (I took some of these photos) and was redone in August 2016, as the First Alert Weather Tracker. John Elliott says it has "so many cameras," including a "slush cam" down below, though they only showed a roof camera today. Interestingly, the CBS 2 logo square appears on its own, instead of next to the "CBS News New York" portion of the logo. The truck also uses the "CBS New York" (not "News") version of the logo.

  43. Well, this is a shocker. 14 years after the CBS/TBS/TNT/TruTV deal began, CBS finally released an official video on YouTube with the 2011-Present March Madness theme song. Curiously, the video contains the music on loop for 1 hour. However, it's definitely not the full theme song, as some core components are missing, like this part.

  44. Hello everyone, Invision Community, the software that powers this forum, is preparing a major upgrade that we will likely be moving to in the coming months. While there are a number of changes and improvements that I'm looking forward to, one change may negatively impact some folks around here. Logging in to the forum will require entering the account's email address, instead of the account's username. This will not affect you if you're using Google or Discord as a method to login. How can you prepare for this? It's easy! Check the email address associated with your account by clicking here and making sure it's up to date. This is also an important thing to do in case you ever get locked out of your account and need to change your password. There will be additional notice made before this change happens, and I am considering turning the feature on before the software upgrade as a way to prepare. Please note: for security reasons, under no circumstances will I disclose an account's email address. If you get locked out of your account because your email is not current/you are unsure of what email is tied to your account, you will need to create a new account. Please don't hesitate to reply here with any questions you may have. -Weeters

  45. It's not their best look, and it's not the best thing to come out of Linear Drift. But it's manageable, and it certainly refreshes from an out-of-place and outdated old KOIN "arrows" package they were using. Given the station's history when it comes to creative services choices, I'd say this is pretty refreshing. It's not as jarring as that old gray/purple/navy blue look with the abrasive serif font and the lightning bolts they had about a decade ago. Even the sharpness and red applied to the old Young HD graphics. Like if a station was going for graphics that screams brutal murder, WRIC has a history. I can understand slightly the hate for the old 8 logo, it was kind of scary and jarring looking, very sharp like razor blades. But it was unique, very unique. What they use now and have used for a few years now isn't, it's very uninspiring. But to be honest, these new graphics are the first time I can look at WRIC and not be scared shitless by graphics, and that's like for the first time EVER, in over 30 years. Heck, even the animation of the open in the last package it replaced was too jarring. Now, it seems the station is finally starting to soften up it's longstanding "guy hiding in a dark corner with a knife and a menacing smile" image that they seemed to have had for a long time. And if you don't agree with me: (Why is the transition sharp razor blades?!)

  46. WMTW and KOLO have better designs for a logo for an ABC affiliate featuring the number 8. Even WGHP's Sottsass-Memphis art movement-inspired "triangle 8" logo survived the switchover from ABC to Fox in the big TV affiliation shuffle of 1994-1996 before it was unceremoniously ditched in the late 1990s, was a better logo...

  47. The designer of the new graphics package at WRIC Just when you think it couldn't be any worse, I hop on Photoshop and say, "Hold My Beer." I better not speak too loud, knowing our luck, someone in Creative Services over there will hop on here, take one look at the old logo and be like "this is the sexiest thing I've ever seen! Why aren't we using that logo?" Next thing you know... TADA!!!!

  48. r I remember that logo and watched WRIC TV8 News in the mid90s while visiting Richmond. However down the road Young seem to do some investing. It got to a point WRIC & WTVR were tied in some newscast and WRIC beat WTVR for #2. That logo made it for two decades and I don't know how it survived without changes, but Young Broadcasting, wasn't like many groups.
