UPDATE I checked this morning's program of GMA First Look (via ABC News Live) and both Andrew and Rhiannon are still there. So, after two years and three months, they became the longest-running duo in the history of the program. It seems like they both aren't going away anytime soon... and don't need to since CBS has been all over the place with their overnight programs since the end of Up To The Minute.

Australia The longest serving presenter in the history of ABC News Breakfast is hanging it up next week after a 15 year run. He's staying at the ABC to work on other projects. https://www.linkedin.com/posts/michael-rowland-6168aa13_some-program-news-i-will-be-leaving-news-activity-7269090460126593024-oLr8?utm_source=share&utm_medium=member_android

Well... its all over for John Patrick. I didn't know about this until today but WZVN's Chief Meteorologist has decided to hang up his cleats and call it a career. He'll now be a part-time radio owner as he owns 102.1 WJST Sylvester/Albany, Ga. https://www.facebook.com/JPweather/posts/pfbid02UB3MFfYRJ8rzEdQEws9XxSeFc7J7scGSwSuycieZpWQAS4BowG72yshxLqK4RTeXl

Okay, I am so excited for this and this is stuff only public television can do. KTCA Twin Cities PBS has produced a three-part series called Broadcast News. Produced by Minnesota news legend Cathy Wurzer, It takes a close and unique look at the Twin Cities television market from the 1960s onward. I have yet to see them but I WILL be watching them. To paraphrase the descriptions of each episode a.k.a. TL;DR (these are my descriptions based on titles and descriptions used at TPT.org): Episode one mainly focuses on the 60s and 70s as Stanley E. Hubbard is a pioneer in broadcasting which leads KSTP to dominate until an unknown Dave Moore and WCCO take over, skyrocket, and create a fierce battle between the two. Also, women and POC fighting to be included into newsrooms. Episode two gets to the late 70s into early 80s, continuing to showcase women and POC fighting to be included, weather and meteorologists now becoming an important part of the news, and production values becoming more mainstream and polished. Episode three gets into local news from the 80s to today. KARE 11 is the laughingstock... until its no longer and becomes a major threat to WCCO and KSTP, the Hubbards are investing in their stations, and continuing shifts in the media landscape as newscasters have their private lives thrusted into public view. Watch them now before KTCA puts them into PBS Passport and then is paywalled. https://www.tpt.org/broadcast-wars/

I saw him last at WPTV. Now, John Gerard is back on Miami television with WPLG, more likely as a fill in or a freelancer.

Canada An iconic place. An iconic building. Its no more for CP24 at least at the legendary, iconic institution that is... 299 Queen Street West. You can't say Toronto without that street.

Sophie Erber is soon leaving KCAU 9 and Siouxland for Colorado Springs. Could KXRM be in her future? https://www.siouxlandproud.com/about-us/kcau-9-insider/anchor-sophie-erber-soon-departing-kcau-9-news/ WAVY loves delivering homeruns. This is probably a no brainer either. Aesia Toliver moves from mornings to evenings at WAVY News 10. https://www.adweek.com/tvspy/aesia-toliver-moves-from-mornings-to-evenings-at-wavy/

Considering this program is an NBC News NOW program, I'll put it here... NBC News NOW continues to expand its reach and is now going to Mexico and Brazil. https://variety.com/2024/tv/global/nbc-news-now-televisa-tv-azteca-1236222239/

Chuck Woolery has died. He was the original Wheel of Fortune host (before Pat Sajak took over for the next 41 years) but I remember him the most from Love Connection, Greed, and Lingo. He was 83.

If that becomes the case, they'll have to rename Sky News Weather and Sky News Extra (currently Sky News Election) too.

Longtime WAGM sports director Rene Cloukey is finally hanging it up after a four-decade run at the only news department in market #206. https://www.wagmtv.com/2024/11/19/rene-cloukey-announces-retirement/

I've always thought he would make it to 50 years and then retire, even if it's semi-retirement. Anyways, this is, in my question, without a shadow of a doubt, THE greatest NYC local news anchor who's ever lived. In a town full of legends and icons, IMO because of the run he's had, Chuck stands alone. December 12th will be a sad day in NYC and in this country in the world of broadcasting as a result of his departure. I'll make sure I'll be watching.

Good for her, man. Over the years, she's been a very recognizable face at WITI's Wake Up News alongside Rob Haswell and Gus Gnorski, among others and it has remained #1 a bit in part due to her presence so it'll be weird to see her doing nights now but its very deserving for her as she approaches 25 years at WITI next year.

Canada It's a new day, and it's the same old story: more layoffs, this time at Rogers Sports and Media. However, nothing is closing or shutting down. https://www.thestar.com/business/rogers-sports-media-lays-off-dozens-of-podcast-radio-employees/article_a5b1eca0-a6d3-11ef-8315-77ad00480a89.html

Yeah I hope not. WALA has been StormTracker since John Edd Thompson's days and it has fit them very well over the past couple of decades.

Also, you may have noticed that WTVY has switched over to First Alert Weather, which now creates a conflict with WDHN, which goes by the First Alert StormTeam.

Editorials still exist. KOCO still does them and their latest example is inducting five folks into their KOCO 5 Hall of Fame.
