1. Hmm... it seems like Scripps is the new modern day Castle Rock.
2. And that's funny because KQDS didn't even have a news department until 2007.
3. I like WDAF FOX 4. I think they're really good. In fact, I think in the last major ratings period, WDAF won in every timeslot except weeknights at 6:00 and 10:00pm but is a strong #2 in those timeslots. Btw, why isn't WDAF on at 10:30pm on Saturdays?
4. I saw it last night on my Cozi TV station (WTVJ 6.2) and let's just say... the band Chicago ended their performance 10 seconds before the new year + the delay between the countdown and the actual new year's moment was noticeable. It was awful. Even Pitbull's broadcast was way better and possibly, the NYE broadcast on ABC was possibly even better too. I think NBC's broadcast was still better than the Chi-Town Rising.
5. That's right. When JKL went to 11:35pm ET/10:35pm CT in 2013, KSTP put the 11:00pm newscast into its 10:00pm newscast and created an hour-long newscast out of that. It wasn't until 2015 when KSTP shortened it again to a half-hour at 10:00pm, basically getting rid of Minnesota's only hour-long 10:00pm weeknight newscast.
6. Or by watching a different NYE event in the same time zone. Nashville or Dallas for example.
7. WPIX's ratings at 6:30pm will sky rocket once the other local stations go national. This pairing is gonna be a slam dunk for WPIX and its viewers.
8. The WTAT/WCIV partnership is not the only new partnership we're gonna see in the new year...
9. I've mentioned in my article that Connolly and Walker will report during the morning news on WESH from 4:30-7:00am which currently has Jason Guy and Michelle Imperato. So basically its the following and The Orlando Sentinel has it down packed: 4:30-7:00am: Jason Guy and Michelle Imperato 7:00-9:00am: Brett Connolly and Jazmin Walker 12:00-12:30pm: The Orlando Sentinel didn't mention it. 4:00-5:00pm: Meredith McDonough and Summer Knowles 5:00-5:30pm: Jim Payne and Angela Taylor 5:30-6:00pm: Stewart Moore and Angela Taylor 6:00-6:30pm: Jim Payne and Meredith McDonough 10:00-11:00pm: Stewart Moore and Angela Taylor 11:00-11:35pm: Jim Payne and Meredith McDonough Weekends from 5:00-8:00am: TBD as WESH 2 will determine that later. Weekends at 6:00, 10:00 and 11:00pm: Adrian Whitsett will be solo now.
10. A big expansion month just became bigger in January (of course from my blog):
11. What I'm about to list is local newscasts debuting in January. What you already know: WPIX 11's new 6:30pm news debuting January 11th. WCVB 5's new 4:30 and 7:00pm news debuting January 11th. WFLA 8's new 8:00pm news on WTTA 38 debuting January 4th. KCRA 3's new 4:00pm news debuting January 25th. WDRB 41's new 11:00pm news, which I learned today that its debuting on January 11th. WFLD 32's new weekend morning newscast that could debut in either late January or early February. What you don't know yet:
12. I think The FAB Life and The Meredith Vieira Show will be canceled after this season.
13. Meredith is being removed from 3pm to 1:35am, I believe, while Ellen will shift to 3pm on WCVB. Inside Edition will air at 4pm followed by NewsCenter 5 at 4:30pm. Dr. Oz is currently on air at 4pm on KCRA 3 and could be shifted to 3pm for the new newscast. Meredith could be downgraded again, this time in the Sacramento market. Meredith is really not doing well at all and its serving an advantage for stations to add more local news when it can.
14. I wouldn't be surprised if WCVB becomes #1 at 4:30pm when their new 4:30pm newscast lanches on January 11th. Won't be surprised for the 7:00pm either.
15. That's going to happen eventually. More people already watch KCRA 3 for local news in that market than either KOVR 13, KXTV 10 or KTXL 40. With the new 4:00pm newscast, this will just pit the icing on the cake for KCRA 3.
16. Look at how WFXR in Roanoke went after they started their own news department. That should answer your question.
17. That's what I thought of too except if Jim Watkins came back, then I'd have Jim and Kaity and reunite the crew back together at 10pm. Midday? Didn't get the memo on that.
18. On this story on my blog, I explained how other stations in Chicago added or expanded more local newscasts ever since the last time WFLD 32 did that.
19. I just watched her last Thursday when I was bored and started watching the last three hours of Good Morning San Diego (with Carlos Amezcua and Elizabeth Alvarez, who was filling in for Lisa Remillard) while I was at college at Miami-Dade College: North. I thought Leslie was amazing but after all, I though the crew that day was great. For sure it is KUSI's loss, but I wish her the best. I know she will enjoy LA since she has family there.
20. Where's the tagline on KGW's website? I know WHAS 11 has it now.
21. But in all seriousness, well done to Harry Porterfield. What a legendary career he's had in Chicago and is considered one of the station's all time greats (along with Walter Jacobson and the legend that he is... Bill Kurtis)
22. They haven't made an official announcement on them yet but it should start in Early of 2016, if everything goes well. No exact date yet. Don't be surprised if Nexstar does more. With WFXR, WZDX and KWKT all launching news departments, I expect more FOX stations owned by Nexstar to soon have their own news departments as well.
23. One of the most-watched, most-respected, most-honored and most beloved PBS stations in the country. IMO, nobody does it better than WGBH.
24. Retweeted by WVII 7 and WFVX 22 earlier today... News in Tampa Bay is going primetime...
