It looks like CityNews' relaunch outside Toronto will be outshot by CTV's announcement that it will expand its local news to 5:00 p.m. across all markets in Canada with the exception to Toronto. In Toronto, CFTO will air CP24 LIVE at 5:00 and CP24 LIVE at 5:30 while continuing its CTV Toronto News at 6:00. In other words, CP24 the first hour, CTV Toronto the second and BOTH will air BOTH hours so CP24's LIVE at 5:00/5:30 will continue as well. It will be the first simulcast of a local news channel in Toronto since the failed CityNews Channel in 2013 in which it simulcasted weekend mornings with Citytv Toronto. http://www.tv-eh.com/2017/06/07/ctv-announces-major-expansion-of-local-news-with-all-new-weekday-newscasts-at-5-p-m-debuting-across-canada-this-fall/

I keep asking them several times on Facebook and they're hopeful to start this year for sure. But then again, look at last year. It never got off the ground so who knows when it will start.

I know we just said goodbye to Schurz (TV-wise) and to Bay City Television but there's another thing to say goodbye to... WHTV. No one noticed here but WHTV (Lansing) has finally shut down. It's the first television station in the country to shut down as a result of the recent FCC Spectrum Auction.

Sinclair Broadcast Group - General Discussion
TheRolyPoly replied to Smitha A's topic in Corporate Chat
Just when you think Sinclair is so biased, there you go. Sinclair and Trump go hand in hand. -
So now here's the $1,000,000 question... Who will take over?
-
It looks like if Network Ten (Australia) doesn't get their act together, the network will sunk its ship and fall over. http://www.abc.net.au/mediawatch/transcripts/s4661911.htm They are in serious financial trouble. Without ways to repay, Network Ten could be forced off-air for good either late this year or next year.

Sorry to double post here but... I'm surprised that nobody talked about this today. Lafayette, IN will finally complete the "BIG Four" circle when it gets its own ABC affiliate, WPBY 49 (station) / ABC 49 (general branding), starting July 1st. http://www.broadcastingcable.com/news/local-tv/lafayette-ind-gets-its-own-abc-affiliate/166108

FTVLive is probably the most credible site there is but New England One is not too far away from that. Both very good.
-
Derrick Santos at New England One says the ABC O&O story is bogus. He's a far more trustworthy source of Boston media info. Can't believe that Newsblues went with this unsubstantiated nonsense.
I don't even read Newsblues and trust NE1 more because I actually read that website on a continuing basis. So @NewEnglandOne has more trust on this than any other and besides, WCVB/WMUR would be REALLY stupid to give up their ABC affiliations.
-
Another question... can WMUR survive without ABC?

Here we go, all over again.

Sinclair Broadcast Group - General Discussion
TheRolyPoly replied to Smitha A's topic in Corporate Chat
But that's wrong because Bonten still owns KECI. It hasn't been fully acquired by Sinclair yet so that's preposterous to blame it on a future owner that hasn't had any control of the stations just yet. -
Basically a refresh of their current package.
-
That's rare but when it happens, its GOLD. This ain't the first time though that Gardner made an appearance into the weather wall.
-
In other words, Dave Ward and Don Alhart-long.

Sorry to bring this thread back from the dead. Orlando City on TV 27 (WRDQ)... uses ESPN-look a like graphics from the current look. I guess its because of ESPN's partnership with MLS. (For those wondering how I'm figuring this out, I'm on vacation. Orlando tonight and Monday night, Gainesville on Sunday afternoon and Monday morning)

WHTV 18 in Lansing - Jackson was scheduled to go off-air on April 30th at Midnight. Instead, it gave itself a last-minute retrieval and was then scheduled to go off-air on May 17th at Midnight. Now, it has given itself another retrieval and will NOW sign-off at midnight on May 31st at Midnight, a full month after it was originally supposed to go off-air. In the meantime, the station is airing Jewelry Television full-time on Channel 18.1, which means the 18.2 subchannel has been discontinued. No word on where MyTV has landed or where those programs have since gone to in the market. WHTV just keeps extending its own life.

If he dies unexpectedly, that would be a big severe blow to D.C. television and to the industry as a whole. Jim is really beloved in this market.

First covered by me on my blog though I didn't specifically say it was temporary because I didn't know about that part at the time.

Maybe morning news too on KSBI.
-
I think this was missed and not talked about here but it looks like KWTV 9 in Oklahoma City has rebranded its sister Ind. station KSBI 52 to... you guessed it... News 9 Plus. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KSBI This took place two months ago and DESPITE that rebranding, KSBI 52 continues to only air KWTV 9's weekday half-hour noon newscast.
-
I think WBIR should be another bulletproof one but dont be so certain. KTVB's competition is terrible so they'll survive no matter what.
-
Yep. Them too. They can shine as well. Never has it been a better time for KPTV to take advantage and become #1. I hope they do. They deserve it.

Sorry for the double post but... WOW! Huge shocker and huge props and congrats to KIRO and CMG for sticking to what they do in Seattle. KING's downfall, thanks to TEGNA and KOMO's somewhat downfall thanks to Sinclair has really helped KIRO big time. Boy they got lucky that KING is screwing up.
