Found it interesting that during tonight's 11pm news, Matt Brickman is covering both weather and sports.

He did it Friday night too.  It has happened a few times in the last year.  They used to bring in Kathryn Tappan when Bruce and John are off (or on the way to the Olympics) but they haven't used her for awhile.

For years, the station used CNN's Carolyn Manno on a per diem basis.  She was excellent, a real pro!

Now that WNJU has physically moved into 30 Rock, Lerner has taken advantage of using WNJU reporters

in the street and last Sunday, he chose to use a female sports anchor from 47.

It was all too evident that English was her second language!'

Then, Channel 4 exacerbated the situation by having her host the half-hour Sports Final!!!!!

In my opinion, it was a disaster!

Her accent was so thick, the station could have employed lower-third captioning.

It's wonderful for people to be bi-lingual - think of Jose Diaz-Balart and Violeta Yas - their English is

impeccable.

Lerner is playing a dangerous game - Penny wise and pound foolish!

Channel 4's audience deserves better.

Where is Pat Battle? Is she okay?

She has been off the air for probably a couple of months.  I'm sure appreciates privacy.

It seems like they're no longer having someone come in to co-anchor when Darlene or Michael is out from TINY. That's got to be fun, anchoring three hours solo (that assumes they're still doing the online-only half hour at 7; they never mention it when signing off, 2.5 hours otherwise).

They’ve done that on TINY for a few years now it seems, going back to the pandemic. Actually WNBC rarely brings in a fill-in for their newscasts - 11am, 4, 5, 6 and 11pm as well as weekend TINY often go solo when one of the anchors is off. Not all the time but more often than not.

They've often had Jen Maxfield come in when Darlene is out, but not anymore. Sometimes Gus for Michael.

Jen has been filling in for Pat Battle on the Sunday TINY which is significantly longer than the Saturday version.

In newsrooms I've heard anchors complain about that. A three hour newscast is definitely ideal with two anchors for voice resting and bathroom breaks.

Noticed a TINY promo running claiming to be #1 morning newscast in April. Didn’t catch the disclaimer at the bottom but good for them if accurate, keep WABC on their toes.

I believe it’s during the 6am hour. There was also a billboard of it at American Dream stating so.

WNBC is probably #1 at 6am nowadays due to the halo effect of the Today Show, which is now.also the #1 national morning show across the networks. Channel 7 is still #1 overall but the competition is finally catching up as you see here.

They (and Ch. 7) are beneficiaries of those no longer WCBS with the changes at CBS News.  I know several who no longer watch CBS News NY (or name of the month).  They had enough of David Ellison, Bari Weiss and placating the temporary WH resident.

Let's put it this way: NBC 4 (the station that this thread is dedicated to), FOX 5, and ABC 7 are all beneficiaries of those who not only no longer watch CBS New York, Channel 2 but also no longer watch The CW, PIX 11 because of all of the layoffs that Nexstar has been doing there. New Yorkers want to wake up, get through the day, and go to bed with familiar faces that they trust, and watch stable news products. Viewers have and will continue to reward that.

I'd imagine there will be a shift in 11pm viewership with the demise of Colbert.

I noticed that when they run a promo for an upcoming news story (like Better Get Baquero), they always say to watch on the specific day at 6am (the hour when the segment will air). Like they don't tell people that the show actually begins at 4:30.

If so great! Michael and Darlene are (if I'm correct) are the longest running AM anchor pairing in the market currently. Grew up watching them!
